    TIRES

I bought 6 Yokohama’s in Phoenix AZ last winter for a total cost including mounting, balance, sales tax, and disposal of old tires (6 yr old Mitchelins) for a total of $3,400. I have about 1,000 miles on them and can’t tell the difference in the ride. Got them from a truck tire place.
  2. I didn’t have one in my 5er but my Class A came with one. I wash the dishes by hand but use the dishwasher to sanitize them. I am solo so it takes me a few days to fill it so I only run it a couple of times a week. It is nice not to have dishes drying in a rack above the sink.
  3. I use the Escapees SD address. In the past I went thru Miller who placed me with Allied a division of Nationwide. Last year they almost doubled their rate. I switched to Geico and saved a lot of $$$. Make sure you get a fulltimers policy, it’s like having a homeowners policy. I have $300,000 liability, even while parked and personal contents coverage.
  4. Most appliances like micro waves, televisions etc. are not made for RVs and are standard household appliances installed in an RV and therefor would not require an RIVA sticker. Ask this idiot where in the rigs is a RIAV striker required. No wonder he is in the WACO Office. I would go up the chain of command.
  5. It would be nice if they would include the locations address. I did google it and found where it is located, near Princeton, OR
  6. I agree, that sucks. But many long haul truckers pulling semis have a micro wave in their truck. I have a friend who is a CDL long haul driver and he has sleeping quarters, a microwave, satilite dish in the cab. But DMV needs to look at the totality of the circumstances, maybe have affidavit that you sign that you are not a commercial vehicle, and get you registered as a motorhome.
  7. Load pipes save lives.
  8. When a customer complains in the future I would explain to them that you are not there for roadside assistance but are a mobil repair contractor and that you must finish the job you are working on and possibly have other jobs and appointments already waiting before you can attend to them. Also tell them that roadside assistance is not to make repairs on the side of the road or in a campground but is to tow the vehicle to a location where it can later be repaired and that you are not roadside assistance but a mobile repair technician. Tell them that if they have a complaint they should call Couch Net.
  9. Wow. Very interesting. I had a 5th wheel toy hauler for 5 years before I got my Class A. It was 43 feet. I pulled it with a Ford F-350 turbo diesel. If you don’t find Nd anyone don’t stress out, it’s not that difficult to drive. I hardly even knew it was behind me except for right turns. Take a few local practice trips in the next few weeks. If you are going on I-10 thru NM there is an Escapees RV Park in Demming right off the highway. All sites are pull thru and it’s only $20/25 for members with FHU.
  10. As Kirk says, Custer State Park is a must. I volunteered there for three summers in a row a few years ago. They have 8 campgrounds 7 with electric hookup and each has water available to fill your tank. There is a dump station also in the park. It used to be $25 a night plus the Park Entrance Liscence which is about $15/20 for a week or $30/35 for a statewide annual pass to all SD State Parks. I believe they have a 14 day stay limit. You can reserve up to one year in advance which I highly recommend because June will be sold out if you don’t have a reservation. A must is a drive on the Wildlife Loop Road inside the park. Lots of free range buffalo to see raking around. I also recommend the Hill City/Keystone Train Ride. The Little Big Horn, Custers Last Stand, is a days ride one way to MT and would be a separate camping event, not an excursion from Custer State Park. The city of Deadwood is in the northern black hills and is about 45 minutes from the town of Custer SD. Very historic town, where Buffalo Bill was shot. It’s looks like a mini Reno NV, with casinos lining the main street. Sturgis is just the other side of Deadwood. It is very crowded the end of July and beginning of Aug for theStrugis Motorcycle Rally. If you like motorcycles it’s great, if you don’t like them I wouldn’t go at that time.
  11. I am just outside of Bosie ID. The forcast is for 101 degrees. All 3 A/Cs are running. I have a white shade in my front window that I have kept down for several days to block the sun. It is inside and connected to a motor to lift and lower it. It got so hot above the dash that my big front windshield did crack. Of course it had to crack on the drivers side and not on the passengers side. I just replaced that front windshield a little more than a year ago.
  12. Sometimes a campground, especially State and Federal Parks, will say you can fit in a camping site but the road around the campground to the site is too curved and has trees and posts and other barriers and makes the drive to the site non passable.
  13. As rynosback said make up a build sheet with the options you want or must have then submit it to at least 3 dealers and have them bid on a price. This way you are comparing apples to apples. Contact the manufacturer of the one you want and have them recommend the three dealers.
  14. I’m heading to Moab late Sept from Bosie ID. Staying at Moab Rim RV Park just south of town. For some reason most all campgrounds in the area are filled up.
  15. Is the question mandatory or optional? Is there an option for “Other”?
  16. If you go to North Platt stop by Buffalo Bill Cody’s House. It’s a museum now and there is a State Park down the road. Also in Grand Island and go for a tour of the Hornady Amunition factory. You need to call them in advance and set up a tour. Nebraska has many great State Parks along I-80.
  17. Private party sales may save you a few bucks but you are buying as is and no warranty or help getting financing. A dealer, hopefully, would have gone over the vehicle and fixed anything minor. A dealer may even give you a 30 day, 90 day warranty. You can add this as part of your negotiations for purchase. A dealer will also help you get financing. Private party’s often want top dollar and give you none of these added benefits. With that said I would definitely encourage you to check out the private party market for a well priced, good condition rig and dealer sales as well.
  18. X3 on campgroundreviews.com. Choose where you want to stay. Go on their website and look for campgrounds in that area. Most reviews have a link to the campgrounds web site. You can try to book online or call them and ask if monthly rentals are available.
  19. Do cities and counties have jurisdiction on this matter or is it only state agencies that can enforce state vehicle laws. I know that local law enforcement can give you a speeding ticket but State law gives local municipalities the ability to determine and set local speed laws but not equipment violations.
  20. Today is the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon Landing. You would think that after 50 years some RV manufacturer would have developed an RV that could take you to the moon. Perhaps a Class A as the command module, towing a Travel Trailer as the LM? 🛰. What would it cost? Would you have to return to the Kennedy Space Center to get repairs made after the first orbit around the earth? Under warranty of course. Would you trust it to make it to the moon and back without major repairs. Would it be an all electric or need propane? It would definitely be a 50 amp I would think 🤔. What are you opinions?
  21. I have a friend who lives in Ft Collins. I am lucky that I can boondock at his house. There is a KOA in Ft Collins and one in Chyanne as well as one on I-25 between them. I think any one of the three could fit a big rig. I have never stayed in any of them but KOAs usually are clean and family friendly.
  22. Why is the word “construction workers” a nasty word? Only you FL-Joe are making a big deal out of this. Maybe you shouldn’t assume. You know what they say when you assume anything. It makes you an ass.
  23. It is listed as a 42 foot but is actually 42 feet 9 inches not including the motorcycle lift on the back.
  24. As Jack calls it , a fire emergency bag is what you are discussing. Most all documents, auto titles, birth certificates etc are replaceable. It’s valuables that should be in your bag. A bug out bag is a different creature. A bug out bag contains, a hand gun, ammo, knife, food, matches, clothing etc. I keep both with me and depending on the situation which or both I will grab on my way out.
