still working
I think I would try going through Arkansas or any other state. I know what you mean by the wonderful OK highways. TomMarik
We took US 385 through the panhandles of OK and TX. In OK, it was like being in another country -- narrow with no paved shoulders. From the state line, TX gave fully double the pavement with wide lanes and shoulders wide enough to use as slow lanes. After two parade laps around the circle in Boise City, I sent the chase car a head to make sure we knew which exit to take to continue south on S 385 because it wasn't marked. We sure didn't stop in those 40 miles, just went slow and survived them. vela1
We are on the road again. Left Homosassa yesterday AM. Hit the supercells just east of Crestview. Think of all the $$ we saved at the truck wash. Did a slide at a stoplight in Crestview, FL. Even at 15 MPH the RV on the HDT is too light in super slick conditions. ""Every one please note."" Jim Gehlen
Left the San Joaquin Valley fog this morning and figured I'd hit the coast and it would be clear. Wrong again. WP 903
Jim, WIND is my bane. I can sit in a campground in the most pristine weather for days - the minute I mention that I will be firing up the rig, the winds from Hades show up... I am off to Galesburg, Il next Wednesday, there for a week, then head to Crestview, FL. After 4 days in Crestview, I am headed to Plaquemine, LA for 4 days, then headed back home. Larryonearth
LaVila says it is too cold in Illinois. We'll be leaving probably Wednesday. We plan on stopping for a day in Livingston then to North Houston for the weekend and then to McAllen area. Anyone know of RV parks down in the Valley that welcome HDTs? The Wandering Bevingtons
We spent a few weeks in the McAllen area after the HDT rally. There is an upscale park in Mission TX (just few miles from McAllen) that is just drop dead georgeous. Bentsen Palms RV Park. It is just outside Bentsen State Park in an area that is developing heavily. Next to the RV Park they are just now starting to develop an area where you can buy high quality, low cost, homes as well as exclusive RV Super Sites. Super sites comes with the following: -Large sites (some 40 x 100 some 50 x 80) 28'x70' cement pads -includes a 12'x20'Casita building roughed in for a full bathroom -200 amp service -fully serviced -completely landscaped and maintained year round -deeded lots -very wide paved streets -large community center with pool etc cost is $40,000 +- depending on site location. http://www.bentsenpalm.com/retamavillage.html I suggest you at least visit while in the area.
