Insurance Help where to go?

Just notified today that Progressive is dropping me in 5 days.  My Totorhome semi is not qualified.  Allstate dropped me previously because they are getting out of large insurance RV types.  Not sure where to go next, any company suggestions would be great!

We are using State Farm for our KW registered as an RV in Illinois. I think it was insured as a stand alone policy to start with and then a few months later we moved all of our insurance there. We were not required to add any additional policies when they wrote the KW. Just so happens a few months after insuring the KW our former insurance (USAA) made us mad on a reimbursement and wouldn't pay so we took everything to SF and got a 1mil liability policy to boot. No claims to SF yet but have faith in the agent as they're family friends.

I dropped SF when they said it was a commercial vin number and wanted commercial rates

I switched to Geico several years ago and have been very happy. Little to no increase in premium  over the years. Called State Farm but they would not do a full time policy on my Class A without a homeowners policy. Told them if I had a homeowners policy I wouldn't be a full timer.

I will write up my adventures on this Insurance topic making progress.  Very time consuming and interesting rules to understand as always.  Still finding ways to get quotes and NO's from other companies.

I know this was discussed previously somewhere on this forum, but I'll repeat my recent experience:

About a year ago, we bought another truck to convert.  I called my old agent, Lazy Days RV in Florida.  The woman I talked to was adamant that I couldn't convert to a MH unless I had a full bathroom.  I found the page and paragraph in the policy where it spelled out the requirements, and asked her to please read it out loud to me.  She started, and when she realized I was right, stopped.  I tried several other agencies suggested on this forum, always getting nowhere.

Finally, I called Lazy Days for the umpteenth time and got someone who knew her stuff.  She even commented that most of the conversions are Volvos, that a KW was unusual.  In just a few minutes I was insured, just as before.  No restrictions for bob-tailing or even pulling other non-commercial trailers.  Ya just gotta talk to the right person.

You need a different agent. I've had State Farm for 5 years now. It did go up a little bit this year but still around $70 a month.

Insurance varies from state to state, even with the same underwriter.  A policy offered in one state may not be available elsewhere.

The more I learn about insurance companies and the laws governing them, the less I like them.

Lazy Days just called me at 7:45 am, Grace knows RV insurance very well and is a Specialist with Progressive.  I have found there are only 10 Progressive Specialist in the USA; finally I found one that knows the business (some DO not).  State Farm is very expensive and they want 30 days to have Underwriting approve or reject.  For those reading this post Insurance is much more difficult at least for me than others.  Most of you have the advantage that you pull a 5er behind the truck/motorhome.  By the way don't call it a Semi (red flags)

Clock is ticking:  Policy will be canceled at 12:01 am on Feb 26, 2022 because the Volvo has an unacceptable body style. I received this notice 5 days ago.  So I am grounded for awhile and we use the rig for snowmobiling sometimes 2 to 3 weekends per month.

I am VERY interested in this topic mostly because we just got our 730 insured.  Used SF as we have had them for decades and have many policies.  I did also get a quote from Miller, and they were right there on price, so we stayed with SF due to previous claim experience.  ~$100/mo

I got insurance today through Progressive Commercial (underwritten by: Artisan & Truckers Casualty Co) as a private truck.  My rates are not bad and I took the $100,000 Liability coverage.  The same company that is going to drop me in 24 hours under another division.  You cannot make up this crap, it is real and the fix did not come from Progressive.  Some would say they are a dysfunctional company and I would agree.  Personally have worked for a few dysfunctional companies and they still are able to make money.

Randyretired - heads up and big warning National General is a part of Allstate who dropped me Feb 2, 2022.  They now have a company mandate to not renew any large RV's.  I was with Allstate 5 years with the Volvo, my agent attempted to get me under National and they said Hell no.  You will be given a 30 day notice, but your agent will know 3 months or more in advance.  This is also no industry secret some of the other insurance companies know this and are taking on that business.

Maybe I will share my adventure in this thread next week.  This was hard for me (many hours) and hard for the agents I contacted, really HARD.

When I called my HDT a toterhome National General was ready to drop me.  When I sent a picture and explained it is an HDT with a bed and it is just a tow vehicle for my 5er they happily insured me.  They explained the don't insure HDT's with any RV home built on the back.  If your HDT is a tow vehicle you might not want to call it a toterhome.  Just my experience.

My SafeCo policy is $460 a year with better coverage than SF
