  1. Dan we feel your pain. We're in Branson right now but had an unplanned stop in your old work area at the Springfield CIT KW dealer. Got an SCR fault right at the KW dealer exit. Pulled in and they said they could look at it shortly after they got back from lunch. Found outlet NOX sensor internally faulted. They had one in stock and put it in, got it up to temperature and did a regen. Then took it for 30 minute test drive to clear Def derate. $664 for the sensor, $437 labor, $39 shop supplies and some tax.....=$1210. No issues the rest of the trip. 90 miles seems to be our number for fault codes, happened on the way to the ECR and now to Branson. Saw your pics working on the Smart. Just had the back end off the 2015 to replace the muffler.
  2. I put a new inverter in our T680. Seems the old one had an issue with the AC bypass on shore power. Old one...a Cooper Bussman was original to the truck with a build date of 6/2015. Called Eaton and talked with a really nice guy who crossed my PACCAR OEM to the current one. Keith at Eaton said it was approaching the end of its useful life. It's a direct fit for size and wiring since the original was factory installed. I just had to swap the two 6" wiring harnesses and unhook a phone cord from the old one to the new one and replace the old display in the bunk with the new one since it has software updates. That takes two screws and unhooking a telephone cord and then reverse for the install, it looks no different than the old one. By going with the Eaton inverter I didn't have to rewire anything...cost me more money but way less time for me on the install. We are leaving for Branson in a week and didn't need a new project on the truck. I'm electrically challenged so David (Georgia Hybrid) helped with what I needed to look for...thank you.
  3. Didn't know if everyone has seen this website before. My seats are GRAMMER brand and I couldn't find much about them. They merged with Magna and formed GRA-MAG. They are OEM to PACCAR and were VERY good to me when I was looking for a factory original armrest for my drivers seat. The dealer I bought the truck from put a "close enough" replacement on as part of our purchase deal, and needless to say it wasn't close in my book. GRA-MAG got me the EXACT match to my seats for color and leather(?) grain. They made the seat originally and all they needed was my VIN and she told me she knew exactly what I needed. Another really helpful thing they have is repair videos on the seats. I had the seats out and tried to remove the lower cushion on the drivers side and was getting nowhere. Found the website and they have a long list of repair videos. Found the video on how to remove the cushion and it was instant once they showed the hidden fasteners and how to make a tool to remove them. Easy-peasy..... They also sell parts and the prices seem good to me. https://gramag.com/
  4. I used Mac's Custom Tie Downs. https://www.macscustomtiedowns.com/collections/straps/products/tire-block-strap-121810?variant=32324062871626 I got 2"X 7' straps...didn't need 10' for the Smart. Also got the twisted S hook on the one end. Call them and tell them what length you want. Single strap with 3 rubber blocks using their lashing winches. If you get the lashing winches like we did you need to specify right and left. They recommend one foot of strap to wrap on the winch. They had a pretty long lead time when we ordered. If you're willing to pay for expedited shipping you go to the front of the line. They are great guys and have nice stuff. I believe Georgia Hybrid uses the same ones.

  6. Rolling with the truck! Late arrival.
  7. Truck has some wires that are rubbed thru the insulation it looks like so far. Drivers side towards the back end of the valve cover, said that's the engine harness. Have to fix that first then see if anything else shows up. If the truck is going to take a long time to fix we'll probably just drive the car down if there's a cabin available.
  8. Going to check on it in about 20 minutes. We are still coming to the rally barring any unforeseen issues at the dealer.
  9. This is us pulling out early evening from Illinois. Got a check engine light in 90 miles on the dash then a second one with a wrench in it along with a red light on the DEF gauge just before we stopped to eat at Cracker Barrel. Came out afterwards and started the truck and had the two ck engine lights and now the red light in the DEF gauge was blinking. Soon after got a derate power warning. The KW dealer we bought the truck from in our town has a branch 20 miles back the way we came from. Called them and he thought it was the doser valve....told us not to shut it off or it might not start. Said he couldn't guarantee he could look at it yet tonight or even the next day. Called the dealer we bought it from at home and they could get us in tonight to look at it. So we're back home, truck's in the shop and we'll try it tomorrow. One other thing, MPG on the dash was 8.8 most of the way to Cracker Barrel. On the way home all messages and blinking lights went away other than a plain ck engine light. MPG went to 9.4 by the time we covered the 90 miles and looked like it would go higher. 🤷‍♂️
  10. We plan to be there Friday. Might leave home Thursday since this is our first run with the truck. That is if everything gets done by then.
  11. Picked up a 2016 Smart East of Pittsburg Monday. Will be putting the 2015 up for sale in the near future.
  12. I did see they have a bunch of them. We picked up a 2015 today from a friend of a friend. We are still wanting a 2016 so this one buys us some time to find one that we want. This will save me a few dollars instead of driving a Dodge dually with a Cummins everyday.
  13. Looking to buy a gas 2016 Smart car. Just wondered if anyone in here has one or knows of someone getting rid of one. I've been looking online and not having much luck. Don't see any in the classifieds on here. Interested in a Proxy or Prime but would look at any if the options were right. Thanks
  14. We did the same years ago and then switched back because of the truck. We did send them pictures of some things inside the sleeper they asked for like fridge, microwave, etc we also sent a picture of the RV license plate.
  15. I'm installing rear fenders on the truck. Bed won't be done for some period of time and we want/need to drive the truck. Bought them used from a friend and the color looks right in the picture but they are painted a solid color and the truck is a little more red and has tons of gold metallic in it. Price was too good to pass up, less than a fourth of new cost. But I have lots of labor to prep them for paint which means taking out every rock chip that came from the inside out. They look like stars in the paint and are not tightly adhered. Two and a half done so far.
  16. We are using State Farm for our KW registered as an RV in Illinois. I think it was insured as a stand alone policy to start with and then a few months later we moved all of our insurance there. We were not required to add any additional policies when they wrote the KW. Just so happens a few months after insuring the KW our former insurance (USAA) made us mad on a reimbursement and wouldn't pay so we took everything to SF and got a 1mil liability policy to boot. No claims to SF yet but have faith in the agent as they're family friends.

    Rear Lights

The rear most red side marker would be within the 1' distance I'm guessing. I really don't want to use the reflective tape. I don't have a "good" place to stick that big piece of tape, besides it's ugly. I'm assuming the tape could be a requirement but I don't see it on RV's so I hope its for class 8 trucks, which technically it's not.

    Rear Lights

This will cover the 3 lights in the middle of the rear. I'll use the same 1" lights with reflectors in the 3 holes in the middle of the crossmember.

    Rear Lights

This is a closer view of the side of the fender where I plan to mount the 1" round lights. I hope this covers the requirements to be legal.

    Rear Lights

I found 1" round lights in Amber and Red that I'll mount in the small round bosses on the front and back of the sides of the fenders. They have reflectors in the lenses and are DOT compliant. I think I need to put one Red one at the rear round boss on the rear fender and then I'll put Amber on the 3 bosses going towards the front. Am I correct that the rear most one on the side needs to be red to show the end of the length of the truck? That's my understanding at least.

    Rear Lights

Carl, Thanks. Will be attending the presentation again just to make sure I'm covered for lights. Hope to have it right before we get there. Rick, I think I might have it mostly figured out. Boogey lights makes a DOT compliant stop, turn, tail light that's 22" long I'll mount across the bottom of the fender if the mud flap mounting doesn't interfere. It's in the right height range at 19". I'll try another post to do the next pictures.

    Shiny

Evan Steger is in Chilton WI and polishing is his business...and he's very good at it. He has a website where he sells what he uses in his shop. https://goshineon.com His YouTube channel has tons of videos showing how to polish wheels, tanks, steps etc. https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCSrl0w2geebnpMWROeDp-Gg I bought stuff to strip my Alcoa Durabrite wheels then polish them. I'm also attempting to polish a five door aluminum rack that goes behind the sleeper. I started on the side since it wasn't polished (mill finish) and will be mostly covered by the side fairings of the sleeper. I sanded with 400 then 600 and started polishing. You can see instant gratification...but...too get it perfect like Evan does has turned out to be a job. There are faint horizontal lines you can see that shouldn't be there. It's all about technique which I don't have yet if ever. Heat is your friend and my shop is 50* so that's really too cold for best results. This is the used rack just as I bought it. There's a lot of shine hidden in there. Rear steps behind the sleeper. Bottom of steps should have been sanded before polishing. This is with brown compound only on the steps. The next step should be "color" with green compound. This is my first attempt at polishing stuff this big and with specific equipment to do it right. Same stuff used by people that use it everyday for a living.

    Rear Lights

You know I'm stuck in Illinois...10" of snow today. There's really no frame showing with the fairings. Where's it supposed to go?

    Rear Lights

Ken, Thanks for that....written in plain English Guess I better figure out where the side marker lights can go along the side since there won't be a bed....only truck frame after the sleeper. It has full fairings along the side past the sleeper to the first axel.

OK thx for the replies. I was at David's presentation and took notes. Not knowing what I needed to know my notes are lacking. I did look over his website but have yet to find any info on the requirements. I looked over the Cornell link and can probably figure it out from there hopefully. The back of the sleeper still has the red/white reflective tape in the upper corners. There will be a 5 door rack behind the sleeper and it has reflectors on both top corners too. I'm trying to not cobble something on it to get by, but wanting it to look nice and also be functional if that's possible. Maybe I'll look into this type of setup. Just won't be using the mud flaps since the fenders have them already.
