dzwiss
Is it possible to title an RV in Texas, which was purchased out of state, without going there? Any hints or tips would be appreciated. I believe I have seen a thread on this but am unable to find it. My domicile is Polk County.

Call the Polk County Auditor and they will walk you through the process. If you are domiciles in Polk County you have their phone number on your current vehicle registration
SWharton
We were in TX but we did register a car that was out of state so I don't see any problem but call Polk County and verify.

Captain Happy
I bought a little Casita trailer in Marfa, Texas, other wise known as poodunkville. The lady behind the counter didn't know how to register the trailer in my home county, so I had to drive all the way to Taylor county to register it. Now buying in another state might be different. dzwiss
Well, the deal went through, should get the new trailer in November in Phoenix. Hopefully I will be able to register it in Polk County without going there. Thanks for the tips.

Did you call the people in Taylor county and ask them to help you? That is one thing about Polk County, all levels of the government KNOW about fulltime RVers and are very helpful. All of the forms and instructions are there for the downloading.

I was advised to fill out the forms and mail them into Polk County, along with the relevant fees and sales tax, of course. My only remaining question is that the AZ dealer says he has to have a notary escort me to the state line, apparently to assertain I left the state. However, I don’t plan on leaving AZ for a few months after the purchase. Has anyone else experienced a situation like this? Advice on how to handle this would be appreciated. bigjim
I am just guessing but you may have to do it even if you turn around and come back after you do the paperwork. Can't wait for a definitive answer on this.
Barbaraok
OK, they have redesigned the Escapees website - where are the forms and booklets now? My eyes must really be going because I don't see them anywhere.

Az state tax laws, like several other states, require dealers to collect AZ sales/use tax on vehicles sold & delivered inside AZ. There is an exception that allows the dealer not to collect the Az taxes from non-residents if the vehicle is "delivered" outside the state boundaries. The dealer is required to document & certify that they escorted you past the state line. So you must comply with being escorted past the state line, or the dealer must collect AZ sales/use tax on the transaction value. What you do at that point is up to you. But somewhere in the stack of papers you signed, is one that says that by not paying AZ sales/use tax you agree to take this vehicle out of state. If you really want to stay in AZ for months after the purchase, it might be better to just pay the AZ taxes and send proof of that tax payment on to Polk County TX who will likely credit that amount against the Tx taxes you owe them. confirm that with the Polk County folks before making a decision

From the Home Page click the Eduction tab, then the domicile link, then Texas, then Vehicle Registration at the bottom of the page.
Allentc2
I have not yet actually purchased my RV, but the dealer (in California) has a similar process. I actually will go to Nevada to take possession of the RV in order to not pay all the CA fees and taxes. And I do hope to register my coach in Texas as well, so this is super helpful. etcetera
I have the same question. Can I do the above but keep an out of state DL, such as from Virginia?

In general, you should register a vehicle in the state in which it is garaged. If the vehicle spends most of its time in Texas, such as an RV that stays in Texas all year and you have an address there, you can register and insure it there even if your domicile is elsewhere. That's what people who have both winter and summer homes where they keep cars then fly back and forth between them do. Linda
Kirk W
While you could get an address in TX and use it to register the bus, sooner or later the local authorities will probably notice and if summons is issued you would have to pay a fine and probably back taxes as well as registering it where you keep it.
