HDT insurance....Blue Sky is (Edit) NOT back in the game!

Just got a phone call from Jenny Morrison of Recreation Insurance Specialists this afternoon with good news....They are back in the game! Signed back up with them because they really seem to understand what it is we do with HDT's. The same policy limits/deductibles as before and a 25% savings over what we were paying with National General.

Passing the contact info along.....

Just got an email from Progressive, so I guess that's who wrote the policy. She did tell me they had numerous providers including Foremost, Progressive, and Safeco.

They contacted us a couple weeks ago.  The price quote was not even close to competitive to our current policy with National General or our old policy we had through Blue Sky.  (Can’t remember the underwriting carrier)

Howdy All,

I checked into this as I was before they pulled out of insuring RV, insured with Blue Sky, below is the email I received in regards to my questions.  In short "Blue Sky" is NOT at this time insuring RV's.

Dave

Mr. Hooker,

Thank you for calling in today.

Recreation Insurance Specialists worked as the internal agency for Blue Sky RV Insurance. The program has still not found a new Underwriter. If former customers have been contacted by us, it was to announce that we have other companies available to quote RV Insurance and we referred to the former Blue Sky policy. This was to alert the customer that we had a prior relationship and we have a great understanding of RV insurance and specialty coverage. We do have a company that will insure Heavy Duty Tow vehicles in conjunction with a 5th wheel travel trailer in most cases. In addition to that we have can secure coverage for Toterhomes and Agreed Value policies (such as Wanderlodge and Airstream).

The latest update on Blue Sky was that they are still looking for an Underwriter. If Blue Sky was to return, as an agency,  we would continue to represent all of the companies and not just Blue Sky.

You have my permission to post my response on the Escapees Forum. Our agency has attended two Escapees Rallies in the past and enjoyed meeting the group in person.

Thank you

Based on the prompt and extremely fair settlement National General gave me on our fire-ravaged trailer in February I intend to stay with them even knowing another insurer might be less expensive.  The quality of their service was not what I expected from an insurance company - it was far better!  Surprisingly we were given $7K over the NADA book value for our trailer and allowed to remove some expensive components that were not hurt by the fire, water or smoke before the trailer was picked up (remaining solar panels, MPPT controller, batteries, transfer switch, inverter/charger, remote controls, G3 sat dish, etc.).  I'll see how things shake out for those of you that do switch before I consider any moves.

Howdy Randy,

I was with Blue Sky, and feel as you do now with National General.  Blue Sky, stepped up and took care of my truck and trailer when they were damaged, no quibbling, just did what a person pays insurance to do.  I went with National General, when Blue Sky, left the playing field and now that I know for a fact that Blue Sky, is NOT writing HDT insurance I'll stay with National General as the rates and coverage they have offered are very comparable to what I had with Blue Sky.

RIS (while I was insured with Blue Sky) was the group that I had to deal with after being totaled by a hail storm. It took them a while (60 days), but we finally came to an agreement which benefited us well.  My problem wasn't with RIS per say, but it was the appraisal company that many of the ins. companies use.  When I challenged, in writing, the "so called" comparables (which weren't) and threatened to obtain my own representative to assist me, things turned around in about 12 hours and we were done.

I took Randy's advise after talking with him more at the ECR and have gone with National General now.  Ty,  (216) 592-7444, is the guy we used and he and the company (underwriters) understood that my truck, although owed by a corporation, does not do any commercial business.  Carriers in the past have all had a major problem with that and charged by a gazillion!  National General saved us a little more than $1200 per year.  And that is less then I was paying with Blue Sky!

Thanks Randy!
