skp51443
Maybe fed up with the big Tricare push to get all long-term prescriptions filled by mail or low rates? Ray,IN
Walgreens and Express-Scripts had a squabble about 5 years ago and Walgreens got ditched in favor of CVS at contract renewal time. Apparently Walgreens and ES kissed and made-up for the new contract term. Last year Walgreen and Rite-Aid merged. This positioned them to be more competitive, and they won the contract this time. You don't have to use Walgreen if you choose. The TRICARE/Express-scripts website has an interactive map of approved pharmacies by zip code. If you buy from an out-of-network pharmacy (CVS eff. 1Dec), you pay full cost then file with ES for a partial refund. We decided to switch to Walmart because they are everywhere, but there is no Walgreen/Rite-aid within 30 miles of our house, and you can get to Walmart with your RV if necessary. nana25k
Of course it's possible to avoid the whole mess and just use Express Scripts mail order. We only use a pharmacy if it's a one time script or if we need to start a med right away. Then if it's going to be long term our Dr also sends a script for renewal to ES. We too use the mail order but have found it to be less than reliable at times because Express Scripts doesn't seem to do well with frequent address changes. We have never found a way to get our prescriptions all come up for refill at the same time. However, we will just have to deal with it under Tricare for Life. If you get a new prescription you can get it filled at a network pharmacy TWICE for the discounted price. More than that and it becomes a "maintenance" drug and you have to either get it via mail order or an MTF.

Unless we're going to be someplace a month or more, we just have Express Scripts send everything to our Escapees mail in Livingston. Then, when we're someplace for four days or so, Escapees just uses Express Mail or FedEx to get our meds (and mail) to us. PRN meds like antibiotics, we just fill at Walmart. Rob Actually that is a good idea! Most of our wintering is in Texas, and our daughter lives in Texas, so perhaps we will use her address for everything and have her forward it.
