What did you do for your truck today?

Today, my 2006 780 is visiting the local Volvo shop for an Overhead and disabling all auto shutdowns except for oil pressure. I [and my wallet] am always a little apprehensive when the truck is not with me.......... especially if he is undergoing an operation...however minor. Tomorrow he gets his annual oil and filters at Speedco. My maintenance account will be taking a hit but diesel is $2.48/Gal. Charlie

Don't ever tell a soldier that he doesn't understand the cost of war.

You'll want to just valve off the water lines at the block Jack. I quit specing the coolant heater a few years ago for the same worry but when everything started going common rail I forgot to add it back in. Sure enough that bit me last year when two trucks left Seattle together and both popsicled together halfway through Wyoming in December. And nowadays as soon as you get the fuel all melted you then have to go a couple feet further back and get the DEF melted again too! Anyways, old CAT's and HPI Cummins returned enough fuel to keep things mighty warm but that isn't the case nowadays. And beings that y'all don't drive that much you could possibly be stuck with a tank full of summer fuel and an unknown emergency trip to Colorado for whatever reason. You used to be able to do that in your M11 truck, but trucks nowadays return so little fuel that they can't do it anymore. You need some sort of coolant heater or factory blend valve or something on there. Your concern is valid though so it is probably best to valve it off so it is still there should you ever need it.

Well, Scrap, you have about convinced me to leave it alone! It seems to be working fine, so why "mess with success". I've got plenty of other projects.

Simplifying these trucks seems to be chasing your tail, anyway. There are computers almost everywhere I turn. But my IShift is not using the road gradient data.... :( You doing that yet?

The last couple of Ultrashift Plus software updates rely much more heavily on the grade sensor. Using "the cloud" is still a fickle beast. It is all out there but figuring the best way to do it is still a big source of consternation. You'll see big things in the next year or two so even if you got something flashed in now it would probably be obsolete as fast as you left the dealers lot. It is crazy stuff - just four years ago it was nothing but beating your head against the wall and if you wanted data you'd have to calculate it or record it yourself [i'll never forget how hard the Google rep laughed at me when back then when I wanted to hook a trailer to his camera car  ] but nowadays a lot of the data is there and you are way behind if you aren't using it! Heck anymore you are behind if the truck can't drive itself!

Not to get off topic, but have you guys seen the video of the ZF demo where the truck with doubles backs itself up? Pretty freaking neat.....

Today I ordered the Donaldson muffler to start my weed burner exhaust system.

Hope it comes in Friday for the start of it all.

Ordered a complete a/c- heater case that comes with new blower, evaporator core, heater core and hot water valve, for less than the heater core, evaporator core, and heater valve, a no brainer for me, and all air doors have new seals so it should work better than it did.

Now to win the lotto so I can order a new truck and get it over with

Scrap, is google mapping gradient?

Roger, if someone gave me enough money I'd be buying one of Scraps T680's probably.....that is a pretty nice truck. On the other hand, it is hard to beat a new 780 :)

I found the factory air horn today! And Volvo should be ashamed of themselves for putting this on the truck. Take the musical instrument called the French Horn, now make it about a 1/5th the size, and cram it in the inside frame rail next to the radiator on the passenger side. Right where the manual said it would be..... As long as your holding a spotlight in exactly the right spot, don't blink or stare at it too long, otherwise it will blend right in with the hoses and wiring running thru there.

The Fluke meter says the wiring is good, so we'll just extend the wiring to a new air horn already mounted and plumbed.

Had my annual service done at my local Freightliner Dealer.

Total Cost was $366.76; Oil/Filter, Fuel Filter, Greasing, Brake Inspection.

All is well. Hope the next 10,000 miles is trouble-free !!

This weekend was very productive.

Got the new a/c box in drivers compartment installed, a/c high side hose and high side pressure switch replaced, a/c charged and got cold air, high volume and engine cooling fan now operates as needed for a/c use.

Adjusted cab to set level, this is a process if your cab sets higher on one side to the other, but glad we did it.

Replaced the interior overhead dome lights.

Repaired the wiring to the blink marker lights, some one rewired it and we had no ICC lights unless you pushed down on the switch to shut them off, Scratched my head for awhile but figured it out.

and did I say we got a lot done on the bed. Here is a pic, I hope it will hold a Smart, might need to beef up some places :)

Here is a picture of the old a/c evaporator, very clogged and leaking.
