The Class-less Class

Thanks, Roger. I thought it was due a little change for the color and scheme of things so I changed the "skin" on the map. Dave is the mastermind and creator of the map. I just add folks and get to fiddle with the look of it. I want to add some more pictures of the last few years to it so will be adding those when I accumulate some and more changes to come.

Sorry Jeri, I thought Dave was still maintaining it for us. I just checked and your spice up job, looks great. So now that I've got both you and Dave credited, I'll go back to harassing everyone.

After I cheated a little this morning and had breakfast in town after my walk. (I took a letter to the post office to have an excuse to go in for breakfast.). I came home and ordered a couple of toys from Amazon. Then started working on my taxes, (I think that's a dirty word, Sorry.) I got them mostly done. (I'm missing two 1099's.) So I started sorting all my 2014 records and getting the important ones stashed in my storage boxes. I've bagged all stuff I don't really have to save for 5 years and took them over to my shop. I'll shred them tomorrow. Now my rear end is sore from setting on it all day. Today was beautiful but it started out at 29 degrees this morning on my walk. Don't that weather man know it isn't supposed to freeze anymore this year? it got up into the low 70's this afternoon so I'll forgive it. I thought it was going to be a very clear night but it has clouded up in the past hour. I can't keep track of where that comet is with all those darn clouds up there.

Gang you're doing good with the chatter. Keep it up. It makes for a much more interesting group.

TID BITS;

Did you know that Uranus spins the opposite way as all the other planets in our solar system and it is also tipped 98 degrees from vertical so that it rolls around it's orbit with the sun. It also has 27 moons and a very faint ring system like Saturn.bu they were not seen from earth until 1997 when the planet passed in front of a star while observers were watching it. The ring system extends from 7700 to 15900 miles from the planet.

I agree, nice new look on the map!!

Since Q we slid up to Tonopah and hung out for a few until our service appointment by Phoenix. Then we stopped in at Coolidge and visited with Roger & Lynn for a couple days before heading to Benson where we will stay put until March 12th.

Nice touch on the map Jeri, just look how neat those Class A's are parked! Now the 5th wheels hmmmmmm! Made it to the Elks club in El Cajon (San Diego) and are busy checking out the area. Had a drive through downtown, to the breakwater and wound up at the La Jolla cove beach for a late lunch. Lots of baby seals, pelicans, and we saw a couple of whales spouting off the shore. Great day, and the temp was 75 and partly cloudy. This elks club backs up to a health club and they play basketball till the wee hours. At least they have a nice bar, 50A and water and a dump on premises. Quite different from the desert landscape for sure. Many thanks to Dave for making our map and Jeri for keeping it on track. All this activity has tired me out so I guess a Steve is in order. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.

Just to clarify about the class map, or maybe confuse everyone.

There are actually two web sites involved. Jeri takes care of the over all look and feel. The class map itself is at a different web site, but it is embedded in Jeri's site. The map has not needed any updates in the last few years. It just keeps on ticking.

Jeri takes care of getting people on to the system and I make them disappear based on emails from Jeri.

BTW: History fact. The actual map web site was created while we spent a week at Firelake Grand Casino.

You really need to be there (Picacho) during the summer monsoons as a big storm sweeps in, you are high enough that you can see across the countryside and watch the lightning under the clouds and see the tops of the clouds flashing once the storm clears your location. Do put away the lawn chairs, the monsoon wind gusts can toss one way out in the cactus!

Is the big nut store still there at the entrance? I wanted to buy one of the big 150 pound bags of pecans for the wife but we had no room to store it.

It's a very beautiful park and will go explore it today. Can't get over how green it is everywhere! I think that big rain a while back made a difference. You're right about some of the trails Sue...they mention having steel cables and recommend using gloves. Pretty sure we'll pass on that one!

Stanley, I did notice something about a nut store when we drove in...it had that "closed down" look to it but, I will check it out and get back to you on it...I like nuts!!

Well I'm over in the shop this morning and just got done shredding all the old documents I sorted out yesterday day. Now I think I can start working on how to store and carry my telescope in the little trailer. Figuring that out might take a few Steves and a lot of setting, scratching my head.

FREDDY, Are you still on schedule for Deming today. Waiting for your call.

Dave you can't confuse me. I've already been confused for years. ;) I sure wan't to thank you for creating the map site and keeping it up for us. I think the map has a lot to do with making our group a family and making it desirerable for new people to join. I wish you were still roaming the country with us but also understand that this life isn't for everyone. The important thing is that you enjoy your retirement years.

Hey, Freddy, I can see what you mean, but at least the Elks are taking good care of us. Toured the gaslight section of SD today and Balboa park, this town is what I would call "lumpy". Not big lumps like San Francisco, but small lumps all over the place. Cool 68 degree day today, so it felt pretty good. Now for a OKC Thunder basket ball game and popcorn. :P Steve

I ran into a problem today. I was working on the little trailer and found that the cabinet I planned on storing my telescope in isn't going to work. The cabinet is big enough but the door on it isn't big enough to get the scope in there. grrrrrrrrrrrrrr. So I guess i'll be sleeping with my telescope when I go to City of Rocks. There isn't enough floor space to set the scope on the floor when I'm not using it and it won't go under the bed. The only place I could find is at the back side of the bed. I only use half of it anyway. Oh well back to the drawing board.

I was expecting Freddy and Delcie to pull into Deming today but I guess they didn't make it. Maybe tomorrow or maybe I mis understood their post here on the forum.that said they were going to be here Thursday. Maybe it's the wrong Thursday.

TID BITS:

Last Friday was Friday the 13th. There is another Friday the 13th next month (March) and another in November. This is a rare occasion.and won't be repeating until 2026. The sporadic nature of this event is caused by the Gregorian calender Which has 365.25 days. To make up for the ,25 days we add a day every 4 years (leap year) However, the solar year only has 365.2425 days.which means we gain 45 seconds every years. So to bring the Gregorian calendar back in sinc with the seasons we don't have a Leap day in any year that is divisible by 100 but not divisible by 400, 2000 had a leap day but 2100, 2200, and 2300 won't have one. so every 400 years our calender sincs with the sun. No wonder my watch is always wrong. See astronomy shows up everywhere.

Steve, if you go to Balboa Park and see the La Mesa Club's huge HO scale model railroad of the Tehachapi Loop check out the operator's desk called Caliente. That's the job I worked the last time we operated at that model railroad. Not always fun having your back turned to the kids in the aisle. But the electric signal system developed a glitch so they pulled out a big hand-operated order board for me to use and I got to hoop up orders. That was fun.

Not a very nice day today. The wind is averaging about 12 to 15 mph with gusts to 21. It started out with only a few clouds but is completely overcast now. Sooooooooo. consequently I didn't get much done today. I haven't even checked the mail. I did get my walk in before it go too windy though. I sorted out some silverware to take to the little trailer but haven't taken it over there yet. A pretty boring day so far. I think I'll round up a cowgirl and go to the Adobe Deli for dinner tonight. Their Asso Buco sounds mighty good for tonight. I've only ate out once or twice since I left here in January to go to Q. That's a record for me. And, I'm still alive so I guess my cooking isn't as lethal as I thought. The Weather prevaricator says we'll be windy for the next 10 days. Ugggg.

TID BITS:

Our Galaxy the Milky Way, rotates about once every 225 million years. this corresponds to an average speed of 220 kilometer per second. The speed we assign the other stars then is the deviation from this average speed. This is caused by the fact that the sun and other stars near it are on slightly different orbits around the center of the galaxy. This means that at any point in time the sun is passing some other stars and some other stars are passing the sun.
The solar apex and antapex is the motion of the sun with respect to other nearby stars. The solar antapex is the point from which our solar system is moving away from. It appeas to be in the constellation Columba the Dove just below Canis Major the big dog and Lepus the Hare. The solar apex is the point that we are moving toward. It's in the constallation Hercules near the bright star Vega in Lyra (LIE-rah). The speed of this movement is about 19.7 kilometers per second. So don't try to rush here on earth you are already moving toward Vega nearly 20 kilometer (12.2337 miles} every second.

Nice pics Sue and now I know what we're missing. Looks like it would be a good idea to hike with at least two on this bad boy. I'd give it a shot but, Lynn is "vertically challenged" in several ways!

Mobile mechanic finally got back out yesterday and the thinking is a bad thermistor for the freezer. Of course it has to be back ordered and dang, the cheapest I can find one for is $120 for such a small part. Hope it works.

Stanley, I have sad news...they must have run out of nuts 'cuz the store looks long closed.

I have to post or IYQ will be on our tail again. I guess he does that because we're on his tail if he doesn't. Turnabout? We finally got answers on family's plans for March so we can move forward with ours. Now we just need to find a place to stay for a week or so after the Escapade while we wait for the Texas weather to warm up. We looked at the Voyager where we stayed a couple times last year. Yikes! Our quote for the week was $325 and it doesn't even have a beach!! More research required in this field.

Thinking we'll be checking in with IYQ in person if he's still around after that. Next we need to find a place to store the motorhome for a week or two in the Dallas area. We haven't stored it other than in an RV park but thought about storage lots. Anyone done that? (I can't tell Marsha why we're storing it or she'll make a big thing out of it again :D:D ).
