  1. I'm a farmer. I will never really retire. I have to show up during planting and harvest just to make sure I am in the way for a while.

    It's official

Congratulations on the new truck. I hope you don't have the same trouble with the autoshift.
  3. Don't beat yourself up too bad. Even us "professional" drivers drop a trailer once in our lives. It is embarrassing when it happens.
  4. I wish we were but I am taking the Boy scout troop hiking in the black hills that week. We miss hanging out with all of you guys unfortunately it will probably be a few years before we get out there again.
  5. In a good year you can get 25 cents a bushel hauling grain but you have to have your own trailer. If you are hauling out of the field you will probably get paid by the hour. I don't know what the rates are on that. Don't get caught hauling grain with the RV license. You wont get a farm plate unless you are actually a farmer. Even getting paid just enough for fuel you will be considered commercial therefore under CDL. Now you need insurance. If you are pulling someone's else trailer you need insurance for that. Non owner something or other its been a while since I had that. AND you need to insure the load. If I remember right we have our cargo insurance is set at 100,000. It doesn't cost a lot but considering a load of soy beans is worth over $14,000 you probably want that insured. It covers the load and if you lay it over should cover the clean up cost depending on how you have it insured. No cargo insurance means all that comes out of your pocket should something happen.
  6. That's not bad. I had to squint to see it. lol. Mine is rough too but the whole truck needs a paint job. Maybe someday. I have more important things to worry about right now.
  7. I have a fumoto on my KW. I am always off road bouncing across fields and driving gravel roads. No problems. I love it.
  8. Had this same problem with our old John Deere 544G payloader. It kept losing prime. The check valve was bad.

    ZIP TIES

They are all the same. My Pete was that way and my KW880. I know the freightliner is that way because I put most of them there myself. 😆 Little advice on zip ties. Don't go cheap. Get the good ones. I buy a lot of harbor freight stuff but their zip ties are no Bueno. I usually order them from u line. Found some good ones from amazon but still prefer U line.
  10. Isn't it fun fixing things. I took a tractor to the shop last week for a leaking injection pump and they found out the head gasket was leaking also.
  11. I prefer the forum. I do use the Facebook HDT page quite a bit. But you get a lot better advice here. Quality over quantity. That being said I did run into a truck builder from Canada on the Facebook page who helped me with my vibration problem. It took a few tries but he diagnosed it over the phone.
  12. These TST caps are pretty darn tough. I run mine in some of the worst conditions imaginable. From sub zero temps with snow and ice to bouncing across corn fields with stalks hitting them. To what I've ben doing this week. Over 600 miles this week and never touched pavement. Washboards and dirt roads. That is not mud on the wheels either. That is cow poop. I am hauling out of a feed lot to stock pile in a in field to be spread. There is no reason to think that they wont stand up to anything you will throw at them in the RV world. I have 7 axles with 22 sensors.
  13. Ordered a part for one of the farm trucks. Just a relief valve for the hydraulic system. Envelope got here after a solid week. Problem is it was torn and empty. Waited another week to get the part.
  14. We will set up a base camp in Custer and explore the area. Mt Rushmore, crazy horse, and Custer state park. Plan a whole day at Devils tower. It's 4 hour round trip from Custer. I am falling under personal as far as insurance is considered. I am getting plates today. We will see what the DMV has to say about it. The last owner had farm plates.
  15. I drove to 100 miles round trip to the nearest Walmart to get Easter groceries. Truck has been sitting all winter, it was time for a drive. We are not going on any long trips this year because I am taking the Boy scouts to the black hills in June. With that and our regular week of Scout camp in July I can't get away anymore. I have a feeling there will be lots of Walmart trips with the truck this summer just to keep it in running order. So, just because I have to be different, I bought a school bus. I was having a hard time getting parents to help me transport kids to the farther away campouts and since we decided we want to go on a troop trip somewhere in the country every other year I figured a bus was the answer. She doesn't have a name yet. I got insurance without doing the RV conversion. We will see what happens when I go to the DMV Monday. It is a 99 freightliner with the 12 valve Cummins and Allison transmission. 170,000 miles. Real clean. I bought it from another farmer who used it to deliver lunch to the field and he let the church group use it once a year. Drove it 300 miles home with no problems. I will be posting about this int he schoolie section of this forum once I start doing modifications. Adding a hitch and brake controller, New stereo, a few other things. I have 2 ac units form old campers I would like to put on the roof but then I need a generator mounted somewhere. As if I don't have enough things to do already.
  16. In some states it is legal for humans to ride in the trailer so why not cats?
  17. Not my HDT. One of the farm trucks. 93 Kenworth T-800 high hood with 3406 Cat. Replace broken motor mounts. Wasn't as bad a job as I thought. Some jacking and lifting and wiggling.

    air lines

I did the same a Nigel. I will be adding a hose reel in one of my toolboxes. The air hose always seems to get tangled.
  19. I will look for some. Probably found at appliance stores?
  20. We had the pleasure of meeting you at the WCR also. It was our first rally. I love your truck and trailer.
  21. I like the removable deck plates. Thats on my list of things to do. My bed came out of a junk yard. I welded and screwed everything solid because when I ran the generator the rattles were loader than the generator itself.
  22. Put your auxiliary freshwater tank of your generator fuel tank behind the rear axle. That is a good way to gain some weight in a hurry.
  23. Modern mechanics, The computer told me to do that. The old guy in the shop that know what the problem is probably retired years ago because he was tried of dealing with that crap. That is happening in our John Dealers and Case dealers shops.
  24. I bought the ultimate socket set from craftsman when sears went out of business. One of every socket they made. I think it was like 375 pieces all sockets. They are all silver. All my impact sockets are from harbor freight. Actually most of the farms impact sockets are form harbor freight also. Only problem with them is sometimes they are a little too thick.
