  1. Got the line switched out. Took 20 minutes. You need long skinny arms to reach it. $67 it was one of the cheaper fixes I've had to do.
  2. You can get coolant that is compatible with everything. It is a yellowish green. We started getting that in our farm shop. Otherwise, we had 2 barrels of coolant for various pieces of equipment. We had old-school green for the old stuff. A barrel of red for the trucks and a bunch of 2 1/2-gallon jugs of John Deere brand for the newer equipment still under warranty.
  3. Got the hitch and lights on. My Nephew is finishing up wiring the lights. Now on to some leaking fuel lines. It's not leaking out of the threads. It is leaking out of the swivel. This line looks like it goes forward toward the back of the head. Any other questionable lines will also be replaced.
  4. Got my receiver hitch welded on and painted yesterday. Found some taillights laying around the shop so I got them mocked up too. Paint should be dry this morning so I should have it all back together today. It's a curt 20,000 Lb 2 1/2-inch receiver. The side brackets are 18 inches long and the tube is 62 inches wide. I tried using the mag drill but there wasn't enough room. I burned up a Ryobi drill. No big loss they are cheap. The Milwaukee drill kept going into protection mode. Then I remembered buried in the bottom drawer of the toolbox is a Makita 1/2-inch corded drill that hasen't seen the light of day in many years. The last 3 holes took 3 minutes. The first 5 took over an hour.
  5. This is on a 2003 Freightliner M2 mid-size truck with the Mercedes engine. Approximately 45,000 miles. At the beginning of harvest our service truck broke down. It was spraying fuel all over the engine. It looked like there was a loose fuel line but noting we did would stop the leak. My brother was able to get it back to the shop without a tow bill. After asking around a little bit not many mechanics in the area are familiar with the Mercedes engines. So, we just dove in blind. Took the leaking fuel line loose and replaced just the O ring. That did no good. After a trip to Freightliner, we were informed that all this is single use only. Once you crack a line you have to replace it. All the parts in the pictures below are what was needed to stop the leak. These are all single use parts. The surprising part was they were not very expensive. I think this was all under a $100. It ended up being an easy fix but not knowing anything about the engine made it frustrating. I hope this helps someone in the future. I think it would be a safe assumption that if these are single use on the smaller Mercedes that would be the same as on the big ones. If I remember right the dark one is the old one Replacing that O ring did nothing.
  6. It is a really nice truck. I had the pleasure of meeting Larry briefly at the national rally. Not the last one but the one before. We drove down for a couple days to thang out with Roger and Karen.
  7. I got a hitch ordered. I opted for a curt weld on rather than the one above. I did some measuring, and I didn't like how it was going to sit. Now I just need to wait until the new building gets put up so I can work on it.
  8. 35k If that was my truck it would be totaled.
  9. I have finally decided to get a rear bumper and receiver hitch. Ive built several in my mind and even mocked up a couple but didn't really like any of them. I want more than just a receiver hitch. I want a bumper as well. I ran across this, and it should fit the bill.
  10. Glad you got it fixed. Did your insurance rates go up?
  11. Questions I get all the time is, got enough truck for that or are you sure that truck can handle it? I look right at them with a straight face and say Yea it should it has air bags.
  12. When I got my truck my friends and family were just looking like check out what the Redneck did now. we were all over snapchat and stuff locally. People making fun of us, saying we were stupid for having a semi to pull a camper. My wife is still not a fan of the truck. It had more wrong with it than we realized and had to dump some money in it. Her point is we could have gotten a nicer truck for what we have in it. My point is now that we have gone through everything, we know what we have. I don't think she will be happy until it gets a nice paint job.
  13. If you plan on going to the WCR you need to sign up right away as soon as its open. They fill up fast. Chad puts together an awesome week of events. If you hesitate you will not get a spot.

You save a ton of money if you can do it yourself. Nothing wrong with a C-15 cat except it's the most expensive engine to work on. I had to replace one once. It cost almost as much as the truck when I bought it.
  15. I saw this on Facebook. As a father of 6 and Scoutmaster of our local Boy Scout troop I propose this. Seriously though it's good to bring attention to this. Many men are too stubborn to go to the Dr and get checked. This is a good reminder.
  16. I am sad to hear that.
  17. Posting pics on here is easy. Only take a few seconds. use this site then take off the img from both sides. RV.NET: Photo Posting (is-great.net)
  18. That happened to one of our trucks. Its 2015 KW with a Cummins. less than 30,000 the injector went out and dumped the exhaust full of def. It was out of warranty, so It's deleted now.
  19. Haven't done much with the HDT lately. But this shed is getting torn down and replaced. This is project I've been wanting to get done for a while. My Grandpa's 54 chevy. 35,000 miles on it. Mice got in the clutch and made a nest. So, pull the engine and trans freshen it up go through the brakes and it should be back on the road.
  20. Someone found out how much tires cost. LOL
  21. Get a Val 6 radiant heater. It will heat a large area in a short time. VAL-6 Heaters - Unique Industries - The Key Is Infrared Heat
  22. These days you need to be prepared to self-rescue. So many people are undependable. I also know for a fact that many smaller tow companies will not answer calls from roadside assistance companies. You have to be very careful. I have the displeasure of knowing someone who did roadside service. He was as crooked as the day is long. He and his little buddies made the people pay cash AND charge the company then brag about it to everyone. He got what was coming to him in the end but not before he put the screws to a lot of stranded people.
  23. I will add that to my list. Thanks.
  24. I had towing added to my insurance policy with state Farm. Otherwise, roadside repairs are covered by Me, Myself, and I.
  25. That is exactly what I intended this thread to be. Just shooting the bull. Any really Technal stuff should be a new topic.
