  2. Congrats on the new stuff. Hope to see you at the National Rally in October. Rod
  3. As above, plan ahead for what you may do in the future. I left both our trucks tandem, and haven't regretted it. The difference in fuel, tires, etc. is small compared to the advantages of having the better ride and traction. It does suffer a bit in maneuverability, but not much.

  5. I have a 2WD truck and the front bearings have to be serviced, Ford recommends every 30K miles but after starting to use extra tacky grease I'm doing it every 50K, I just did them at 30K and which I would have taken a picture of them because they definitely didn't need it. I don't pack our present trailer because they are Nev-R-Lube and the only grease they have is what's packed into the bearings cage at the factory, I check end play every year but that's all. I've run trailers my whole life both for work and play and always repacked them from new and 3 or 4 years after that depending on how much they are used. Get the bearing cage full and your good to go. Denny
  6. Be happy to share. Just PM me an email address. We live right outside Knoxville.
  7. Congratulations Larry! I jumped in and singled mine. I never had a plan for more weight like you do tho. Just saying I agree with the folks above. I wish you well on your project ahead!!
  8. Larry - One thing I didn't notice until just now: In the photo of Greg's carbon bed with the jeep on it, that is a model 670 truck. A much smaller and lighter cab/sleeper than your 860. Even with the composite bed, I would side with the other guys here that the weight on your steer axle with a jeep and no trailer may be a concern. Not to mention, when fully loaded with jeep and trailer, what is the weight on the truck, steer and drive? I would advise extensive research before incurring the expense of singling, only to be overweight on one or both axles afterword.
  9. Congratulations on the truck and trailer.
  10. We have over 40000 miles on our trailer in almost 3 1/2 years. I check the bearings for play at most campsite stops and check temps. I repacked 1 wheel to check the grease a year and a half ago and it looked like new grease. It’s a triple axle and a little over 28000 lbs. I might repack them in the fall just to do it and the site will make it easy to do it. I definitely do not do it every year just because the service people say to. How often did you repack the bearings in the old rear wheel drive cars? Usually when the brake pads wore out.
  11. However trailer bearing should be inspected annually for defects. Well, unless you're the kind that waits for a bearing failure first. And todays wheel bearing grease will settle out over time. I've seen it with one of my farm wagons that sat in a shed for 3 years. I removed the dust caps to see if they had any grease showing and oil ran out of the dust cap. Regardless of advertising all #2 non synthetic grease must meet the same specs.
  12. If you don’t mind sharing, I’d love to take a look at it. Whereabouts in TN are you?
  13. Larry, First congratulations and very nice looking truck. Just a word of advice. I used to give a seminar at the ECR concerning that very issue and you will be surprised on how easy it is to unload/overload the front axle or rear axle based simply on lever arms and fulcrums. Please, please don’t just take someone’s word for it that it will be okay. Do the math yourself, it’s pretty simple and in fact if you have any aviator friends it’s a simple weight and balance. The worst thing to do is remove the second drive axle then find you are marginal for doing the things you want to do now or later. Heck, when we started in 2009, no one gave a thought to singling because everyone was carrying Smart cars at 1600 lbs. was hard to impossible to cause an axle problem. Lots of difference between that and a vehicle that weighs 4-5X that weight, a drom and other things you will find you don’t want to live without. That’s why I remained tandem…for future needs. I’ve even seen some folks are considering “stackers” on their vehicles. As a community, our safety record is pretty good and the regulators/Leo’s are not too concerned with us. If the safety record declines, guarantee that will change. You have gone about this the right way and I applaud you. I’m getting old so please take this as some fatherly advice and my hope is you don’t find it meddlesome or offensive. BTW that talk is in a PowerPoint format that I could send to you if you would like it. Talks about how to calculate effects of singling short, mid, or long and other tid bits. I will say I stole the talk from Mark Shelby with his permission so he did all the legwork, lol.
  14. Last week
  15. I saw this picture on the Escapee Facebook as posted by someone who is there. It was about 8 am on Thursday morning. That is TX 146.
  16. I’m told it will, but I doubt it would have the capacity with water / black water tanks. I’m thinking will will get pillow tanks that we can store when empty and then fill when the Jeep is off.
  17. Nice looking truck! Will the single axle carry the load with the Jeep? I carry a Subaru Crosstrek along with a 100 gallon water tank and a 100 gallon waste tank. I was afraid the single axle would be overloaded.
  18. Congratulations on the truck and trailer. Didn’t make it to the rally again this year
  19. Livingston, TX Flooding,,,,, We've been to the Escapees park numerous times but I don't recall if it would be on higher ground than the actual town. https://www.texastribune.org/2024/05/03/east-texas-flood-survivors-cleanup/
  20. It's all coming together. Bought a DRV Fullhouse MX450 at MHS RV in Alvarado TX in February. Had to tow it home (hour East of Nashville) with my 2017 F350 SRW. Wasn't as bad as I thought, just took it real easy, set the cruise at 60-62 and drove very defensively. Managed to make it to the East coast rally in Crossville last week. After a 3-4 month search found the truck for conversion, 2022 Volvo VNL860. Nice clean truck, 412k miles, 8800 hours, 455hp w/ turbo compounding, iShift, 2.47 gears, Lopro tires, Disc brakes all around, twin 150 fuel tanks, white. Should get good fuel economy. The only 2 things we didn't get that we wanted were, either gray or silver and a locking rear axle. Going to see about doing decals to make it look like it belongs with the 5'er. Trying to research either an axle swap or retro fitting the existing with a locker. Any of y'all done a retrofit? Have the paperwork, plate, title, private RV stickers, etc. all in order so we can fly down next week and pick it up from Bruckners in Fort Worth. Want to do a Jeep/Bronco bed (see pic). Let the conversion begin!
  21. I gotta say it was the easiest thing ever, like registering a car or motorcycle! We live in Trousdale county, smallest county in Tennessee. I had previously went and spoke with Rita the county clerk about what it takes to register as a MH. She said, well I've never done that. She called Nashville and they told her that we had to fill out this and that form, so she printed them for me. We looked them over together and she kept saying "well that doesn't apply" till we got to the last form. At that point she says "just bring the title in an I will take care of it", so I did. Took a total of 17 minutes from the time i entered the door till I left AND on special forms or affidavit to sign. Walked out with the plate and pick the title up next week before we go pick the truck up in Fort Worth.
  22. The one I founding your price range is already sold but this one is just a bit more money: https://sportsmobile.com/van-inventory/14910-2/. Sportsmobile has been doing high quality conversions since the days of The Beach Boys. Linda Sand
  23. While it is true that the safety inspections end anther this year, but on the counties that have smog checks, those will continue for smog only.
