palamine
I know exactly what you mean about missing the RV bunch. We have this beautiful lot to sit on so Jim can fish but it's like being in a stix and bricks and I really am so ready for a change. So even going to AZ in the heat works for me. It was so fun going out to dinner with Steve and Cathy because they know what it's like to live in an RV. Most of the rest of the people we've been catching up with think we're nuts. So true. We are thoroughly enjoying Jeff and Tina's company. Feels so right. We spend most of the day together yesterday; lunch out, dinner here and sat at the campfire (our first since we got here) until 10:00. Even toasted marshmallows. Today we are going to show them the "sights" of Merritt, go out for Chinese, and then take them up to the in-laws for dessert. I am going to try to get them to stay. We have SKP friends Ray and Sheila arriving on Sunday but the visit with them will be fractured as we are both working during their stay. We will definitely be in Arizona for most of our six months on "the other side". rmcf308
Well I'm all of the above, spitless, stiff and bored! I really miss the RV bunch to, it's just not any fun when you don't have folks to compare notes with. We are sitting at the Elks club in Dalton, Ga and we might as well be on the moon because no one stops here. We've had two overniters that left at daylight and that's it. I agree with you Sandie I would just as soon be in Az. in the heat it would be better than this and I wouldn't have to put up with the humidity. Happy Anniversary Freddie and Delcie we had our 40th in April....we may not make our 41st though if I don't get out of here soon!!!! Sandie & Jim
Happy Anniversary Freddy and Delcie. Hope it was as great as you guys are. Sure am looking forward to seeing you in AZ this winter. My heart goes out to everybody who is just sitting this summer. I'm trying to stay positive but I can hardly wait for the Tuesday after Labor Day. When I start taking pictures of buildings you know I'm desperate and bored. We have to go to Billings on Sunday for a couple of days for doctor appts - eyes and skin for Jim. We're not going to take the rig since we're only going to be gone two nights. The girls are going with us and we'll stay in a motel while we're there. I was hoping we could leave the girls at Todd's house during the day but they are babysitting Michaela's sister's dog - Layla, a pit bull. Not a good mix with our little ones. I don't even want to go out to dinner with anybody else around here because they don't or can't talk about things I want to talk about -where have you been, where are you headed, what do you plan on seeing, who are you going to meet up with. what problems are you having with your rig, toad, or truck.. I told Jim we may have to buy me a car to use while we're here in Helena so I can go volunteer at a shelter or do something. Sorry I'm whining. Soon this too will be behind us. IYQ
An uneventful day. I needed that. I sat outside and carved for a while this morning after my walk. The skies were cloudy so the temperature stayed down reasonably well today. There is a group of Elk Members here that have an informal group of RV'ers sort of like the 2008-9-+ bunch. They invite me to all their get togathers. They are a real friendly bunch. Tonight about 15 of them had their chairs set up under a salt cedar near my picnic table so I joined them. You should have heard some of the stories they were telling of past group meetings. They make our bunch look like bible belt preachers. It just started raining outside. It was raining pretty hard for about 5 minutes but stopped just about as fast as it started. It may be cooler tomorrow which I'll take without a gripe. Wanderin
Happy Anniversary Freddy and Delcie!! It has been soooooo hot. I hate it hot. Well, I also hate it cold. Sandie -- I think when you're around an RV bunch the closeness comes from understanding the life style. I get tired of my brother saying to people .. on, they live in their RV. Thus, I pull back too. People don't understand until they've done it. We haven't been in the motorhome most of the summer and it's a nice change but I'm ready to get on the road. We are in a camping area where folks own lots. We looked to buy something close to the kids to put the motorhome on but zoning wouldn't allow it in most cases. We have several snowbirds close by who live in Arizona during the winter and here during the summer. It's nice talking to them but it's still not the same. Janice - I told you ... get on a plane and come and visit! Your time is almost up though. We told the kids we were probably pulling out mid-September. They couldn't understand why so early. They have their lives and we can't hang at their house every day ... nor, do we want to. We still don't know where we're going or where we're heading. We have a lot of thoughts but after we shake that Jell-o a bit, it never does set. steved44
Freddy & Delcie, Happy Anniversary!! Hope you have many more happy ones to come. We are now in Burlington, Vermont at the Elks club. They have three hookups (30A) and water, and we managed to get one of those. We came across Lake Champlain on the ferry and that was a nice ride. Only $36 and it saved us about 4 hours of driving to get around. They put us on the ferry first and we thought we were driving right off the front of the thing, but we actually had 5 feet to spare! It was only about a 15 minute ferry ride, so all of a sudden we were in Vermont! Burlington is a very neat city with a lot going on and many restaurants and things to do. There is a triathlon going on this weekend and some of the streets are being shut down tomorrow and the next day for the running and biking etc:. The university of Vermont is here, and many of the students are starting to come in, so it's pretty exciting! We will be flying to LA on Tuesday for my niece's wedding Next Saturday. Hate to leave the bus for that long, but this seems to be a really quiet and safe place, so I guess it will be OK. Weather here is great. 80 in the daytime and 60 at night, so you can't get much better than that. After LA, we will go back to Montreal to look at an ancestral home of Carol's people, and then head over to Maine. New Verizon hot spot is working fine, so it may be a permanent addition to our bus. We've been traveling quite a bit, so the hitch itch problem has not been ours. Signing off for now. Steve PS: Mike & Deb, we almost had a RV (the movie)event too. We got a new Sani-Con macerator sewer system hooked up, and the first time I tried to dump, I put the new hose in the sewer connection and turned on the macerator. Well, I forgot to take the little cap off the end of the hose, and all of a sudden i noticed the hose swelling up and the motor on the macerator starting to bog down. EEEEKKKK, I didn't know which way to run first!! Well I shut the macerator off and finally the hose swelling went down and i was able to take the cap off the end and everything was back to normal. Well you have to really work to define "normal"! Whew! IYQ
I finally had to break down and pull my trailer over to the Main campground on the lake to dump this morning but not without my share of goof-ups. Everything seemed to be going smooth going over, but while dumping the drain must have been partially clogged as sewage started backing up out of the drain. Luckily the depression in the cement around the drain held it all and it finnally all went back into the pipe. The only water hose was on the other side of the rig. (The dump station is set up to be able to enter at either end with dumps on both sides.) I fed the hose under the rig and went back and turned it on. It wanted to play like a snake so I had to turn the thing down to just a trickle. But I got the hoses and cement clean again. I drove back to my site and started setting up again. When I opened the slide I heard a funny noise like someone wadding up brittle plastic. I stopped the slide and looked behind the Facia and sure enough a brand new package of Lemon Cream sandwich cookies was now a riddled bag of crumbs. I cleaned that mess up and went on with the set up. During the process I looked up and noticed my weather station was missing. I must have hit a tree with it or something because I've left it up many time when I'm just going a short distance with no trouble at all. The only thing left on the pole that holds it was part of the battery cover with a broken latch. Oh Well, it made for a good excuse to head for T or C to pick up another one at Wally World and of course have a nice rib dinner while I'm in the area. I went to K-Bobs which usually has good food. The ribs were tough as all get out. The day ended a lot better than it started. The Elk group set up one of those fake fire rings in my driveway and we all sat around talking until way after dark. Now if I can just get to the bed room without breaking a leg or something I'll get rested up for tomorrows trials and tribulations. But in our case it was peanut brittle and I had a race to see who could clean up more of the mess - me or Skittlez. It took us months to get it all because every time we'd pull the slide in or out we'd find more. Skittlez was such a happy dog. Sounds like that Elk group are quite the gang to hang with. mskay
Well, with our upcoming trip half way across the country and back I am getting excited to get underway. We will leave the 31st and head east. Our time here in Montana has been wonderful though. We went to the NW Montana Fair and Rodeo this week. People said it wasn't nearly as big as it used to be, but had plenty to see and EAT. The rodeo had World Class Riders, and an Indian Relay Race on Horseback that I've never seen, and the riderless horse really won! We have met another couple that just retired last year, he was a Homicide Detective in Fresno Ca. and she was a Nurse Practicioner/midwife for 30+ years. Very great couple and they winter in Yuma also! The guys have guns and ammo in common, so they will get together this winter and go shooting. Today we are going to get out and wash this rig. Suppose to be hot here. I've got laundry going and need to pick things up. Tonight, a couple of college girls who we met in Glacier Park - have been camping and hiking in the Glacier Back Country all week, we told them to call and we will go pick them up, bring them back here for the evening and I'll take them and their huge packs to the airport at 5 in the morning. I would like to think as a parent that someone would do that for me! I'll bet their folks are pretty worried. Two girls alone in Bear Country not too safe! I hope they call. It's the weekend so we will leave the activities for the weekend warriors. Well, I've procrastinated enough. Wish I could wiggle my nose and all would be done. Hope everybody has a great weekend. Toni, Good luck with the yayhoos. I have dealt with many partiers in the hotel and don't envy you!Be careful. Things here pretty uneventful! I like it that way. IYQ
If it wasn't for Bad Luck I wouldn't have any luck at all. Yesterday, I was sitting outside carving, I went into the trailer to get something I needed and found that it was 90 degrees inside. The Shore Power was not showing on my AC meter. I checked the circuit breaker and found the one for the AC had tripped. I reset it and still no shore power. I checked it at the post and it was fine. I got into the tunnel and checked the breakers to the inverter and they had not tripped. I reset them anyway. Still no power. I turned the inverter on and I got 121 VAC in the trailer but the Fault light came on almost immediately and turned it off again. I turned all the AC appliances off and the inverter came back on and was working fine but when I turned the inverter off I still didn't have any shore Power. So I figured it was Either the Transfer switch or a case of overheating in the inverter and transfer switch. I opened both ends of the tunnel where the Inverter is mounted and left it open for about 2 hour. When I tried to get Shore power again I still could not get it so I gave up for the night as it was time to go to a hamburger dinner the Elks had invited me to. I unplugged the trailer from the power post and turned the inverter on to have AC for the night. This morning after my walk I turned every thing back on and took the AC power connection plate off the inverter so I could check with my volt meter. When I turned the Shore power on I got 123.5 VAC at the inverter AC input. I went inside and sure enough everything was working just fine. Even the Air Conditioner. It must have been a heat problem in the Air Conditioner that was making it draw too much current and it took all night to cool back down and reset itself. Right now I'm just using fans to keep cool but I'm going to turn the AC back on when it gets over 90 outside. If it does the same thing today "DOES ANYONE WANT TO BUY A SLIGHTLY USED AIR CONDITIONER." I'm going to get rid of that sucker. IYQ
And the Saga continues. This afternoon I was sitting inside when the AC came to an abrupt halt. I looked at the shore power meter and it showed a fault of no common wire connection. I went out and measured the shore power at the post and at first I didn't get a reading. I pulled the meter out of the plug a couple of times and re-plugged it. All of at once I got the "No Common" fault again. I wiggled the meter plug and it showed 123.5 VAC. It seems that the contacts on the shore power post were so pitted that they made and broke contact as they see fit. I doctored it up a little by bending the common contact closer together and put some dialectric on it and so far it seems to be holding. Soooooooooooooo I guess I'll pay for another week and stay here instead of making a dash to Deming. If it happens again I'll move to a different site. My friends from the Elks all went back home this morning. I have the whole park to myself. I can see two rigs down along the river and the Host's rig here in the park. I'm going to miss the Elks. They were sure a nice bunch of people. steved44
Sorry to hear you're having the electrical problems, I hate it when all those things that (you can't see) go bad. Sounds like you found the culprit though. We were at Fire Lake casino one time and all my electric was working fine. I unplugged and went and dumped the tanks, and then when I plugged back into shore power only half of the things in the bus would work. Turns out one leg of the 50A power had quit while I was gone (20 minutes), and it wouldn't come back on (with any amount of pounding, cussing etc:). Glad you're powered up again, hope it lasts. Nice weather here in Vermont. 75 to 80 days and 55 to 60 nights, I could learn to really like this. You have to keep reminding yourself that you don't want to be here in January. -25 is not uncommon in these parts. Also you keep seeing these snowmobile crossing signs along the road. I don't think they put them there for no reason. We have to fly out to LA tomorrow to my niece's wedding. Not really looking foreward to living out of a suitcase (what's that), for eight days. Once you get used to traveling in the RV, it's hard to go back to that (hmmm what did I forget) mode! My niece is having to fly back to her own wedding from Alaska, as she got a job there after the wedding plans were made. Should be a great time, but getting around in LA is picnic. Oh, well, must start packing, (stuff stuff mumble mumble stuff stuff). IYQ
A long hard travel day today. I moved all of 200 feet to site 52. The electric pedistal works good here. The AC kept running all day. Because of the long hard travel day I think I deserve to eat out tonight and not toil with all that Kitchen Roulette stuff. I finished the carving I've been working on and soaked it in Mineral oil today. Now I have to rack my brain to think up something else to carve on. I hope it isn't my thumb again. IYQ
Well what do you know, Nothing blew up or quit working today. Maybe it is because I didn't do anything. After my walk I sat out and carved for a while but really couldn't get my heart into it. (That's good I shouldn't be carving on my heart anyway) Then I sat there swatting flies and watching the world go by. This evening it looked like it was going to rain but it managed to rain all around us but not here. I had a young couple with 3 girls for a neighbor last night. They could only stay one night and had to go back to go to work. Tonight there is another rig in it's place but I haven't met the occupants yet. They went away in the truck soon after they got set-up. I had a campfire last night. I sat there watching it thinking about our campfires at Q and Yuma. I enjoyed that. Tomorrow I have to make a trip into T or C to get some groceries. I'm out of bread and fruit and low on milk but I have some Parmalat to back that up with. I don't know how it is that I eat out all the time but still run out of groceries. It must be magic. IYQ
I enjoyed Sidewinder Rd where we were the winter before last for the reunion. There are several places in California that are free. I stay all winter at the slabs for the grand total cost of ZIP, ZERO, NADA, 0 or nothing. Even the dump is free but it's 12 miles down the road. By the Way Sidewinder is in California. It's just closer to Yuma than any California city. I went out to get Propane this morning. I really didn't need to because I've got everything switched over to electric but it gave me something to do. This evening I'll Drive into T or C to get groceries and have a good Italian Meal. I found the address of an Italian Restaurant. The reviews on it were very good. So, here's hoping. This morning was overcast so it stayed cool until noon. The sun is out now and it is already up to 94 in the sun but only 84 in the shade. The park is just about empty but the rig that pulled in beside me yesterday is still here. It's an older couple that are a little on the stand-offish side.
