class of 2014..follow along!

Recommended Posts

We have our Moho and boat at lake havasu. We leave it there for part of the summer. We will be going over on memorial day. Our FT plans are still going good, very anxious to hit the road. I am not sure if I want to make hard plans for the beginning of our FTing, or just wing it for a few months.

Time is flying by, we will be in 14 soon.

Enjoy your trip, dosbeagles.

The only hard plan I have is to leave this state and never look back. The more I read the news the more anxious I am about leaving and not getting caught in thegiant flushing action of California going down the toilet.

We retire December of 14, so I think we will probably spend the rest of 14 and the beginning if 15 in Arizona and Nevada. Then make plans to head north for the summer of 15.

I am also ready to get out of Cali, before the big meltdown.

We too cannot wait to get out of California and leave the mess behind! We'll return for visits to family, but it will be good not to be a resident and be able to leave when we want to

We are heading to the Tahoe Forest area for the Memorial Weekend plus a couple of days and will try out the solar set up on our 5th wheel for the first time. Then about a week later we are taking a 3 week trip up to family in Oregon (taking them stuff we are getting rid of :D ) and will do our first run at some free boondocking. A little nervous about it but excited as well.

Well we have been on the road since 6/5. We have seen Yellowstone and have some great pictures and square dancing has been fun in both West yellowstone and in Las Vegas. We also went to the Golden Spike National Monument near Brigham City, Utah. Great museum there. Also found a neat museum in Fort Hall Idaho about the native Americans that were relocated to that area. Found some really nice parks along the way. In Brigham city Golden Spike RV Park is nice and big rig friendly and in Fort Hall at the casino they have a full hook-up rv park for $20 per night. The coffee shop in the casino does not open until 9:00 am for breakfast but the food is ok.

We stayed at Bakers Hole campground in West Yellowstone and had electric for $14.00 per night senior/ access pass or $22.00 normal. nicely spaced sites again big rig friendly right on the Madison River. Being from California i was very surprised how nice the National Forest Campground was a nd had 03/50 amp electrical and needed that in the AM for the heater has been getting down to below or right at freezing every night we have been here.

After 3 more days of square dancing we head to Spokane Washington for the national square dance convention for more dancing. These trips really reinforce the idea that we want to full time.

Only 2 more years to go!!

Take care all.

It's been a long while since I last posted here. DW (Janet) and I had been waiting until 2013 to purchase a Class 8 truck and put a bed on the back; then, we had planned to purchase a 5vr...but, plans changed when our friends George and Diane Crowell called to say that their lifestyle had suddenly changed and their rig was for sale.

Sorry for the long story; but, we did purchase their rig. [Thank you, Crowell's, for taking such great care of the rig!] Now, I'm dreaming of our 2014 departure for Alaska. After that we plan to tour the other 48 continental U.S. States. [We figure Hawaii is really out of the question for our rig. :P ]

Some details of the rig are in my signature, below.

Bummer! I tried to include a pic of our rig; but, it appears that the current database issues w/Escapees' forum won't allow the attachment. So, until that's fixed, I'll hold off posting any pictures.

Hi Everyone! So happy to find this forum! DH & I would love to join your Class of '14. We made our decision a couple of months ago and have since been putting it into motion. We bought a TT a couple of years ago, (will get around to telling you about that later) and have been having a great time camping and enjoying it. Before that we were tent campers (still miss my tent, but won't go back ha ha) We bought used to get used to pulling it etc and the whole hitch thing...I completely remodeled the inside, well maybe redecorated is a better description, but it sure looks a lot better! We plan on getting a 5er as soon as the house sells but we really haven't started shopping for that yet. Anyway, we are hoping to pull out of our driveway end of year 2014. Started today cleaning out some drawers and one closet, didn't get much in a box, but I do have two boxes already! We hope to put the house on the market January 2014 (talked to a realtor a couple of days ago) and hope it sells by June. Is anyone having any luck in that dept? or has anyone put theirs on the market yet. I read through this thread before posting and found all the info very encouraging. I am currently reading RVdreams.com daily journal to keep myself motivated. We will probably need to workamp for awhile while we get used to the whole "living on a fixed income" thing. DH turns 55 in 2014 and can retire and I start SS the same year which will give us some income. This forum is going to help, been looking for it ever since I read something on RVdreams about their "class". Sorry, this was so long, gave you our whole history ha ha. Looking forward to meeting everyone on the road, until then will talk to you soon!!

I attended a free webinar yesterday about Amazon and I was so encouraged by it that I can't wait to go work for them. If our timing goes just right we can be on the road and get to work for their season in 2014. Have to start working on those resumes - like NOW!!

9 weeks on the road sounds fun. We are still on track for late 14.

Our latest will be Jun 3, 1914. next year I will be much antsyier than I am now. Got to have the house sold and everything moved into the motorhome or a stoirage locker. This storage locker is a BIG BONE of contention. My stuff is junk and I admitt it hers is carefully preserved crap accumulated over the years. Most of it will have to be flushed. Not a fun time but the rv won't hold it all. She wants 3 sewing machines for projects, and I say stuff that has not been touched in 5 years does not need to go,. Find a good storage locker place for some furniture and family heirlooms and garage sale the rest.. Example of something we don't need. We have been carrying a foot bath for 9 years. this last summer spent 5 weeks out of 9 squaredancing never used the foot bath. I say it goes she still not sure. I keep telling her we have 40 fee of motorhome x8/12 feet wide and everything including the 2 dogs must be included. We wi9ll see how much ends in storage later to be sold off. This is not the fun stuff. being on the road not thinkin of the stix& brix that is the fun stuff.

I agree getting rid of the "stuff" is NOT the fun part, well not the funest part anyway. I have to admit that I am enjoying the process. We don't have children so I have agonized for years about all the "stuff" that are heirlooms, etc. It was funny though once DH and I decided to make this move, it was very clear how to distribute everything. I called those people and of course they are onboard. I do not forsee anything going into storage. I am using Craigs List ALOT and Goodwill ALOT, the rest is going into boxes which will later go to the driveway in the form of our first garage sale. I think we will need about 3 sales. Once we pick the date for the first garage sale we will also be picking the date for the first FOR SALE sign to go up. We are going to try it on our own until the second garage sale. If nothing has happened by then we will hire the realtor, we have already chosen one in our heads and we interviewed two, probably should do one more, but probably won't. Anyway just wanted to say that from everything I've read - those that have decided to store usually say they regret it, not saying you shouldn't , just saying I'm not, not a paid one anyway, I have a brother with a little room in his storage building for some of the REALLY important keepsakes.

I just decided the next step to making this trip happen is to get on board with the class of 2014. I have the puller, I don't have the pullee. We, like everyone else in this class, have a lot of work to do. Maybe by following along with you guys & committing to a class it will be a motivator for me to continue on the quest to get on the road.
