Map plotting travels

Delorme Street Atlas has worked for us since 2001. However I do not print the maps out, but run it on my netbook from the passengers seat. If the route changes due to detour or any reason, I can modify the route on the fly. Whether rest area, restaurant, truck stop or my day's destination, the distance and travel time are on the screen. POI Factory has hundreds of Points of Interest lists that can be downloaded and input into the program.

Believe it or not the one I use the most is the Good Sam Trip Planner. All or most campgrounds, points of interest, road restrictions, fuel estimates and time calculations. Prints out route, maps and itinerary. All addresses and tel #'s on the itinerary. If you are a Good Sam Member it is free!

Still using Streets and Trips despite its no longer being supported. I have over ten years of trip/routes saved on an external drive. In addition to the POI Factory, the Discovery Owners Forum has a lot of good POI data sets that can be imported into mapping programs and gps units. The Ultimate Public Campgrounds Project offers a dataset of city, state, federal and other public campgrounds that is very good.

I like the avoidances but wish it would show a map instead of simply describing where to turn....

Still seeing Places we have never seen before and others that we thought we would never see again!

Hi RV , Yes some of thse seem close. I need to spend more time. I was looking for something that could do display and print out routes we have already traveled. I should have been clearer about that. Thanks for all the responses.

I use mapquest to plot my route most of the time but use http://www.travellerspoint.com/ to keep track of where we have been each year.

The good old Trusty hard copy Rand McNally Road Atlas! Check it once before I depart, then at every rest break! :D:D

I created an account on http://umap.openstreetmap.fr/en/

Wheelingit does a pretty good job of showing OpenSource Maps. http://wheelingit.us/2015/01/18/mapping-alternatives-for-bloggers-and-new-wheelingit-maps/

But for creating check out this blogger: http://liferebooted.net/creating-route-maps-with-openstreetmap/

I really like creating a driving map on Google Map’s then downloading a KML file and transferring to my Umap source. Still learning the in’s the in’s and out’s of this system.
