The Class-less Class

We get to move our peg today. Moving a little further west to Pocahontas State Park for a few days. I'll stay there while Ed gets on a plane to fly to California. His sister had been ill and he was hoping that she would hold on until he was able to get there, but that didn't work out. So the family is planning a memorial service and he will be there for that.

Then it will be on the Amazon.

Well, we are camping at a local Wal-mart tonight. No electricity and no AC. I'm already sweating. That Alabama humidity is pretty fierce after a rain storm and we had one big rain storm on our way here. Tomorrow -- Pensacola but we'll have AC. I can hardly wait for that.

you guys are getting to FL pretty early in the snow bird world. Any idea where you will be in DEC-March?

travel safe and enjoy the ride

My condolences to ED. I've felt that pain.

I'm at Manzano Mountain State Park tonight near Mountainair NM. It's about 7300 feet altitude here and sure feels good. This park was closed for 4 years because of a forest fire. The forest is ponderosa pine but fairly young trees less than a foot in diameter at the trunk. There are a few very old aligator juniper mixed in but you can really tell they have seen some hard times. The weather is nice and cool. Light Jacket type at night and early in the day. Almost all the electric sites are reservation sites only two non reservation with electric and the non electric sites are all the worst sites, unlevel and backed up to a ravine. The park is very clean and maintained and the staff very friendly. It's a small park and the ranger said they fill every weekend. I don't think I would come again. It's way out of the way and the road in isn't marked very well. What signs they have are faded and verily legible. And with so few sites it's a gamble you'll get one without reservations. I may stay tomorrow but will probably move on the next day.

We are only here for a few days. It's hot and humid. We'll head back to Washington Monday or Tuesday and then to Phoenix before we return in about 3 or 4 weeks. Most of November we'll be visiting Mickey Mouse and then Bonita Springs in December. Early part of January we'll be in Key Largo and after that .... no reservations. Golly, reservations are hard for me to make but we did. Hope to see you this winter!!!

I used to say my point of traveling was not to be in areas where we had to use the heater or the air conditioner. That hasn't worked out real well with us. I think we're doing something wrong.

Just a little reminder about the class map.

Requirements are the same as they have always been to get on that map. We've posted this on the forum a few times in the past since we have had some unknowns ask to be put on it too.

1. Must be a full-timer when added (even though can change to seasonal later . 2. Must be active on our forum (classless or 2008-2009). 3. Must have attended a group reunion gathering.

Don't forget to "jiggle" your pin if you're hunkered down for a while AND add a comment or two to one of our two forums to stay active. The idea is to keep the map fresh and current for our RV family.

(PS: No rules apply to 2008-2009 pioneers unless we don't see or hear from them for months .. it's that grandfather clause. :D )

And, apparently, being the owner of the map. Dave hasn't moved in years and he rarely comments unless it is a question about the map. Now I'm not moving either but, at least, I still comment here now and then. Dave reminded me yesterday that he developed the map in 2008 when we first met Steve & Carol and Boogity at the Firelake Grand Casino. How many of you remember Boogity? Or have spent time at that casino after Steve gave it such a good plug? How many of you know that's where the ice cream machine hides? Or the story of the shotgun? What a history this group has. I miss being part of the history now in the making.

So very true... I remember Boogity. He didn't last long as a full-timer. I wonder how his farm up north is doing. Dave rarely comments but we certainly enjoy hearing from his wife! We certainly do have a lot of history and a lot of stories.

Nobody could ever forget Dave Sands after the Sands got a 40 footer stuck in the sands up to it's hub caps. It's the stories like these that were a nightmare when it happened but are precious memories now. That's why it is so important for everyone to keep posting. The joking with each other the stories of our mishaps and experiences, the help and support that flows like water when one of us is experiencing difficult times. The happy times we experience. Is it any wonder our page on the forum is one of the most read pages on the whole network. We're Family.

I'm in Ute Lake State Park, Logan NM tonight. I about froze my tush last night up on the Mountain. I got up about 2:30 AM and turned the furnace on. When I looked at the guages this morning it said the LP was down to less than a Quarter tank. The tank only holds 80% of 13 gallons so depending on the LP generator for electric and the furnace for heat which means I have to run the generator longer to recharge the batteries I decided I'd better get off the mountain while I could. I filled the LP tank when I got here. It only took 4.8 gallons. So much for that LP gauge. It lies.

I had forgot that there is no Verizon signal here. I get a great wifi signal from the park wifi. But I can't call my friend in Hartley TX to tell her I'm only 2 hours away. I guess I'll just have to walk in on her. I'd stop in Logan and call but no Verizon there either. The next town is Dalhart TX and that is only 14 miles from Hartley. Oh well, I'll play it by ear. I'll walk into her new restaurant with a paper bag over my head and test the waters before showing my face. I need to be where Verizon works incase Holiday World calls about that gear box for my Vent / Skylight. I only plan on staying in Hartley for 1 or 2 nights. I might get thrown out sooner than that for not calling first.

Hey Julie, If you're still at Heron Lake State Park threaten Mike with mayhem if he won't take you to the Cliffside restaurant. It's right at the base of those hugh cliffs you can see toward the East. Watch for their large billboard as you head for Chama from Heron Lake turn east at that bill board and just keep going till you see the restaurant on the right side of the road. Watch out for deer on that road they're thick and don't get out of your way very fast. Also at the office, at Heron Lake, ask to see Josephine. Tell her you know me. No, on second thought you might get thrown out of the park.

Well said, Lee. We remember well the day the Sands got stuck in the sand. It was the first time we had met anyone and Paul was really happy to be able to help, and I was happy to chat while the guys all helped :)

It does boil down to the fact that we have a group of friends we can count on, and have a great time with, whenever our paths can cross.

That was really a group effort getting him out of there. However, He wasn't the only one who got stuck in sand. Dave (Shadowtracks) did the same thing a year or two later in Yuma also. Freddy ended up pulling him out then with his truck.

It's what we had in common that drew us together. We had questions to ask, information to gain and experiences to share.

We've stayed at the Casino and don't tell Lee we've had ice cream from the "ice cream machine". Also got a tour of Oklahoma City and heard the shotgun story from Steve and Carol. We missed the Sand's sand adventure.

Traveling a coupe of days ago from Knoxville, TN. to Lake Toxaway, NC. I made the mistake of following my GPS. I knew I should've drove through Asheville, NC. but the GPS had me get off at the Clyde exit. Instead of stopping and looking at the map I kept going. Before I knew it we were on the Blue Ridge Parkway. I really can't advise taking this route in the motorhome especially while towing. The campground we are in is one of the friendliest we ever been in and it's a Passport park back in the woods. Fall is on the way to this part of the country.

Travel safe everyone.

Hey Lee, I am the navigator so will just tell him to make that turn, plus will make sure he is hungry at the time.

Very quiet here, camp hosts left so we grabbed their site.

I'm in Hartley TX parked behind the Home Garden Cafe. My friend, I come to see is down in Lubbock TX attending some sort of Cowboy doings and won't be back till Sunday. I talked to her daughter and we called "Mom" to let her know I'm here. She told her daughter to leave the back door open so I had access at any time day or night. I told her to lock it as usual because I wouldn't be using it unless they were here. I had lunch and when I tried to pay the bill, I was told "Mom said No and I'm not going to argue with her". So when she gets here I'll do the arguing and recite the 1st rule of business to her. And that is to make every one that comes through the door your friend and if you don't charge your friends, you'll soon be out of business.

This is a very small town. There is a hugh grainery and several other agraculture type businesses and this small Cafe. Come to think of it I don't even remember seeing a gas station. But when one has roots and family here it's Home. And there's no place like Home.

BTW, Mike didn't get even as far as we did down that road driving his 4-wheel drive truck. Lee had to pull him out.

I sure do appreciate all the folks that came with their pieces of lumber to loan to us. Not sure Coach Net would have made it that far, either.

Well, we almost needed the "shotgun" tonight. Carol was unfolding a small table we keep stored next to the shower to use for a project she had going in the living room. All of a sudden she let out this blood curdling scream, dropped the table and ran to the front of the bus. Hmmmm that was my cue to jump up, get the shotgun, and come to her rescue from what ever critter had her cornered. Turns out it was a shrimp (albeit a big one) with the head on and somehow stuck to the inside of the table. We had just had a shrimp dinner a few nights ago and had bought some live local ones, nice and big and pretty tasty. I don't know how this one got away from the herd and wound up in the table, but it sure looked scary for a few seconds. :o Luckily for the shrimp it was already dead, because if it wasn't the scream would have done it in. It almost got me, but with a little Jamison and ice I'll probably recover. Steve
