  1. If you like movies, 4k and HDR, the LG OLED is fantastic. I you just watch cable news, old reruns and stream low res over cellular the TLC is hard to beat. I own both.
  2. One other thing to consider is stairs inside. DW has RA and not having stairs inside the living area is a must.
  3. I love that almost all of the kids I run into have been taught to ask that question. My dog is like a magnet, a bit bigger than a beagle, happy, wagging tail and white with black spots. I get asked if she is a dalmatian by half the little kids. If the kids are very small I make my dog sit and I get down on the dog and kids level so I can stop any errand hands that might pull an ear. The only time she is not interested is if she spots a much hated black squirrel.
  4. Make sure that inch taller and inch wider will not rub on anything at full steering stops both left and right.
  5. Yeap, as northerner, cold is when the radio start broadcasting frostbite warnings. " Exposed flesh freezes in less than 5 minutes."
  6. I didn't see it specifically called out yet. Part of the reason to put an initial addition of water in the black tank is for order control. Waste in water does not smell nearly as much as waste exposed in the air. Another tip, don't have bathroom exhaust fan running while you flush turn it on after the flush so it does not suck smells out of the tank.
  7. Do you have the 3.6L engine and tow option? IF so max is 5000 pounds. Look on your door for the GVWR, this is the max the Transverse can weigh. Look for GCWR, this is the max the Traverse plus the trailer can weigh. Now here's the most import thing to find. How much does the Traverse weigh with a full tank, three adults, three dogs and cargo in the back. Are these NFL linemen and mastiffs or size 0 petite models and pugs? You cannot go by printed material as every option added reduces cargo capacity. Load up and go to a truck stop to get weighed, cost less than $20 last time I did it. Once you know the real curb weight fully loaded, minus it from GVWR. The difference will be the max tongue weight the trailer can add. I would not run at or near max, I always want a safety margin. for a travel trailer you want 10% to 15% of the total weight to be on tongue.
  8. I believe they want to pump diesel into the super C and gas into the toad on the trailer without having to move from truck lanes to auto lanes.
  9. Doing dishes with running water can use a lot of water. When you don't have a water hookup you might want to switch to doing dished the way we did when dry tent camping. Use three tubs soapy water to wash rinse water rinse water with a little bleach to sanitize
  10. We have taken the long road from tents to two popups, two travel travelers. We have rented a C-class a few times. Having an F250 and doing TT for years helped us decided we did not want to be cruising and then site seeing in a truck. We are now in a park model and spend about 5 months straight there during the summer. Tight space and always on top of each other wont bother us. Plan is get a used Dutch Star, that is why this thread and their adventure got us so excited. OP, Please keep posting updates on how the space ship adventure is going.
  11. Wow, we are so jealous, it's about 2.5 years before we can start full timing. You adventure sounds so fun we can hardly wait to start ours! IT might help to focus an system and learn it then move on to the next. they way I think of it is: Vehicle System motor trans suspension brakes Water system Fresh water holding tank and its water pump City water Gray water holding black water holding electric Inputs: batteries, generator, park power, maybe solar 12 volt subsystem 120 volt subsystem RV systems Leveling slides awnings stairs antennas, dish
  12. Just remember, anybody can have a horrible day. They may have just gotten horrible news, have a bad headache and just got done dealing with several jerks in a row. Showing respect and kindness in the face of jerk will most often change the exchange for the better vs bristling which will only make the exchange worse.
  13. Do you have any techy type people in the family? Before my dad passed, I installed a home automation system with motion sensors and door sensors. It was programed to alert me if he didn't leave his room in the morning, if he didn't open the cabinet his meds were in etc.. We also installed Amazon Echo dots in every room so he could just yell, Alexa call son.
  14. don't confuse transfer case with transmission it is possible to have manual transfer case and automatic transmission. the Wrangler is perfect example of this.
  15. After you find the max weight the truck can be, GV Take a look at this page. It gives a great explanation of the weight limits involved and how they play together. After you take a look come back with any questions. https://www.curtmfg.com/towing-capacity I highly suggest you get truck weighed at a truck stop before settling on a trailer. Knowing what your truck really weighs full of fuel, how much people, pet and gear weight you will add will let you know how much trailer tongue weight it can handle and still be under its weight rating.
  16. You are forgetting budget in your discussion. I'm looking at 2010 Newmar Dutch Stars not because I think a 2020 DS is crap but because I cannot afford it. Now it is true I'm looking at used Newmar vs a new Thor in my price range to get better quality.
  17. This would be a red flag and I would not even bother with them. If their unit is so great what are they afraid of? When I hear this I always think that the inspector will discover they had a major water leak that will cause a soft floor or wall problems in the future.
  18. Agreed, at many sites you have select an additional link. The first one asking for user name and password are to create a new account. There will be another link on that page to login, typically below the submit button or on the top right. Your old phone probably had the direct login link saved.
  19. Check out the Weatherflow system. https://weatherflow.com/smart-home-weather-stations/ Here's the user forum. https://community.weatherflow.com/ Measures all the thinks you listed plus humidity and lightning. You'll need to thing about how you will mount any unit you pick, to give accurate wind direction info you'll need to orient it to north every time you stop.
  20. Try using more water. We had that problem as well. Now we let a generous amount of water run after each flush. I also run a good amount water right after dumping the tank. Edit: If campground water has a smell of it's own that will also be part of the problem. Also don't run bathroom vent fan while flushing. wait until after you close the value to turn on the fan.
  21. Burnt plugs can happen when there is not good solid contact either because of physical deformation of the contacts or corrosion. Think of putting a thin extension cord in, pulling high amps will heat it up and you'll get melting. Poor partial contact is like a thin cord more amps though a smaller point generates more heat. Poor comparison I know but hope it makes the point. Interesting that nobody mentioned having a good meter and using to double check the pedestal. We currently have a park model that I installed a Progressive 50amp unit on. When the weather gets hot and lots people show up we can get one leg drop to low voltage and the unit does it job cutting our power and waiting a bit when voltage picks back up. Saving my AC from an early death.
  22. We are planning for early retirement and going fulltime in 2018. Only wrinkle that could delay the plan is what will options and cost for pre-medicare healthcare be like in three years. I'm worried it will north of 2k a month. With that said, currently in learning mode and having fun figureing out what we want have as our house on wheels when the time comes. We've already changed our mindset and now look at every purchase with the question "Will we take it with us when go full time?"
