  1. We will be new full timers and hitting the road in June or July. Do I need to figure-out and book sites for winter now or can just meander around during winter? Of course the next question is where? we have no predetermined destinations so could go anywhere. Are Rainbow parks an option and which are the best? We will have 41ft 5th wheel.
  2. If you also plan to setup relationships with local professionals make reservations in advance with people like lawyers. I'd also suggest setting up mail service in advance so that you have bank, cell, insurance documents with that mailing address.
  3. Yes cobra is an option for up to 18 months. For me it's a better deal than going onto the exchange. However, if you are 65 or older you have to go medicare.
  4. I would have picked TX if I could have. I used to travel to Houston all the time for work and will be there next week. Would have made getting lic easier but no nationwide insurance I could find for someone not on Medicare.
  5. For cleaner windows with less streaking use cotton, not paper towels. Do not use fabric softener on the towels for cleaning windows.
  6. Just decided on going with Crestview FL as our Domicile, best combined health, truck and full timer insurance on the 5th wheel. I'm only 59 so health insurance is why we picked FL.
  7. I just got quotes from Miller for the 5ver and F350 we plan to buy. Marlene said there only 4 insurance companies who do true full time Insurance and ran quotes with all of them. Both vehicles will be new, 5ver will have full loss replacement plus we added a million dollar umbrella policy. Very happy with the quote and will go with Miller when we buy the vehicles. She also ran the quotes for multiple zip codes to help me find the best location to domicile. When I combine her quotes with the health insurance costs I compared, the best zip code for us in Florida turns out to be Crestview FL as a Domicile.
  8. A class A, either Toy hauler or with a small trailer for your bike will leave you with just the bike as daily driver. A truck and toy hauler TT or 5ver will give you the choice of the truck or bike as a daily driver. A Class A is basically a big truck/bus and that why we wonder why not a truck?
  9. Just changed AT&T and Citibank mailing addresses to my PMB. Also turned off paperless so I should get next months bill and statement sent there. I'm thinking that should make getting a DL easier when I head down to FL.
  10. Best of luck with that. Mine was unexpected. They said here's the deal, you have two weeks to say yes. If you say yes, well let you know if we accept you and what your last day is, could be end of March or end of Oct. So I went from planning to work another 1.5 years to retiring in 30 days all of a sudden.
  11. Well the original plan was for us was to be the class of 2021. However, I was offered a voluntary early retirement package and will be retired in April. wow so much to do my head is spinning. We will domicile in Florida since the insurance options in TX for someone 59 appear to suck. So we are now in the class of 2020 full timers.
  12. I was thinking more of the cellular data providers vs. the cable companies.
  13. I'm hoping it's huge success for Musk. It will create competition, making the other players step up their game and lower the prices.
  14. Location, and credit history are the biggest factors that influence insurance prices. Shop around, use a broker. Changing counties even though it was only 3 miles away had a huge effect on our rates when we moved.
  15. Full timing you spend many more hours in the RV than you would in camping mode. A floor plan that works when in vacation mode and spending most of your time outside might not cut it as a home. Go look at a lot of floor plans. Think about cooking, using a computer, doing paperwork, working on a hobby or crafts. Find a floor plan that works for you and then go from there.
  16. We've look at DRV, Keystone, GD AF. We think for floor plan, included equipment, quality, and reported issues the FR Riverstone is a better choice. https://forestriverinc.com/rvs/fifth-wheels/riverstone/39RKFB/3959
  17. I've had an 30amp EMS from Progressive hardwired with remote display and the portable 50amp unit from Progressive. Both have saved my AC units from low voltage by shutting down. With a portable you can check for a bad pedestal before parking. Hardwired is very nice since you can see and monitor power via the remote display inside the camper. Spend the extra money to get an EMS.
  18. We will be retiring and going full-time in a year. Been planning it for several years and had planned on DP MH. Spent two years researching and planning. However in the last month plans changed. We are now planning on going with a 5th wheel for two main reasons. 1. In the same length a 5th wheel has more living space and we will spend a lot more time camped in the 5th wheel than driving down the road. 2. For the same budget and similar quality the big diesel dually TV will be brand new vs a 6 to 8 year old DP. So much more peace of mind with a warranty, more places to get it worked on and safer in the event of a bad accident. The MH would be nicer for driving down the road, the small efficient toad would be great for a daily driver. The big diesel generator would be great for overnight and extended boondocking. Oh and in general a nice quality 38ft 5th wheel will require a 1-ton dually, if top quality maybe even a bigger TV.
  19. On our TT we often moved the support poles from connecting to the side of trailer to vertical on the ground and tied down. I was wondering if the same could be done to the fancy awnings. We enjoy sitting under the awning and watching a nice rain. Thanks for posting.
  20. Wow that had to be pretty drunk. Even if you forgot about her going the wrong way, she kept going after climbing the curb with rear tires.
  21. I like ScanPan for my induction cookware
  22. Wife has a shot glass with frozen water, there is a penny sitting on top. Depending on how far the penny is inside the ice lets us know if we need to throw out stuff or not.
  23. How long will it last, most of the posts are missing a critical piece of info, ambient temp around the unit. 8 hours in a MH with a generator running the A/C to stay at a nice 72 is completely different than 8 hours in a dark travel trailer going down the road in August in AZ heat.
  24. When you look at the insurance plans it's not hard to get a list that shows what they will pay for out of network hospital stays and by the way it's a pretty good bet that the doctors and tests will also be out of network. When you go to the ER because you had chest pains and then passed out, that will be covered as emergency. After they stabilize you and you get move upstairs to the cardiac ward for days of testing that's not emergency and now is a hospital stay. The point being, Read The fine Print
  25. True, however, they are rolling the dice that they won't have a major issue like open heart surgery and end up being stuck with a bunch of out of network charges from the army of doctors and technicians. IF going that route read the fine print and understand what is covered and what is not.
