  1. Barb, I do not use it to disinfect drinking water, only to sanitize the entire fresh water system(110G) annually. I run the frig/ice maker during this process to sanitize the ice maker lines too.
  2. Barb, here is where I got my information and the idea of using Sodium Dichlor: http://rvbasics.com/techtips/sanitizing-your-rv-fresh-water-system.html Art Knapp had the same information on his website, of course it and he are gone now. here: https://goneoutdoors.com/rv-fresh-water-holding-tanks-4686452.html and this paper backed by the WHO: http://www.fao.org/fileadmin/templates/agns/pdf/jecfa/cta/61/NaDCC.pdf
  3. Rob, actually we must make our decision for dental and vision care in October 2018 for 2019 instead of Jan. We will have the same choices as congressmen.
  4. Yes it works exactly the same as liquid bleach, however it has no aftertaste. Being 70% chlorine any user must know the hazards involved. For instance, getting the powder in your eyes will cause blindness, thus the admonition to read and adhere to the SDS instructions for handling and use. I bought a 1# pouch of Sodium Dichlor granules 6 years ago, and have about half remaining. It must be stored in an air-tight container, otherwise if it gets damp chlorine gas is the danger. Available at all pool supply stores.
  5. Read the SDS, some pool products contain heavy metals since they are not meant to come in contact with drinking water. I use Sodium Dichlor@ 70%, one tsp sanitizes a 100G system. It has no taste, so one rinse is all that is necessary. This is a granulated product that must be kept dry in storage and handling. This IS a hazardous material if not handled properly!!!
  6. I'm old enough to remember when any product from Japan was considered junk, it took nearly 30 years for their imported products to gain a reputation for quality and reliability. I'm quite pleased with the performance of my Boliy EU3600.
  7. That's the story, however I haven't had to replace anything but the carb on mine, it cost $38. That was entirely my fault, I forgot to drain the carb one winter we spent in TX. The crappy gas corroded the carb. Yes, Boily has a specific carb drain screw accessible through a casing vent. BTW my Boliy is a 2008 model and performs like new.
  8. That was the same situation when Honda began selling gensets, lack of service shops. I use a Boliy, inverter genset, every part is "plug n play" and most Honda shops have replacement parts.
  9. The TFL website explains everything we should know, and covers questions and answers posted. It is the official source for this information. TO obtain a new/replacement military ID card, contact your nearest National Guard center and inquire if they have a RAPIDS section, as only HQ detachment is authorized a one. While there update your personal information in DEERS. Everyone should get an updated ID card if the present card displays your SSN, DOD has eliminated SSN's on ID cards and replaced them with a DOD number.
  10. Newer Copper Fit pans are advertised as safe for ALL heating sources, they even sell an induction cooktop. DW likes the fact a metal spatula or spoon may be used with them. She also uses a set of T-Fal induction-ready pots N pans, but one must use nylon or similar material spoons in them to prevent damaging the non-stick surface. These were the best buy at that time.
  11. My Boliy PRO3600SI inverter generator weighs 78# full of fuel and oil. New cost, $949. I don't have any difficulty lifting it into the truck-bed or moving it around @75 yrs old. I do long for the electric-start model, but it was not available when I bought one in 2008.
  12. Nope, you merely remove the solenoid water connection and empty the bowl, when you remove the bowl the ice maker line drains. I always dump the first batch of ice, which may contain something I don't want in my Scotch on the rocks. Someone once asked about draining the supply line inside the freezer, DuHH.
  13. Yes to what Kirk said. If in doubt about any Rv antifreeze aftertaste, add a cup of baking soda to the first fill, after you flush the system of Rv antifreeze.
  14. Thank you for your efforts Derek! I will enroll in their free monitoring service. I also monitor my bank accounts, IRA account, and of course Discover card updates my credit score daily for free, It's a good indicator of financial activity under my name and SSN. My score reflected our new MH tire purchase on my Discover card by the end of that day. Paid off the Discover and my credit score returned to its former number 5 days later.
  15. Instead of spending more money, I use 2-3 oz bleach in my 5G wash water bucket. This kills mold and mildew on the exterior of the RV and awnings, including those pesky black spots on vinyl trim and the roof membrane.
  16. If you'll pardon me, I'll not retype everything on the S.M.A.R.T. website that explains, please visit the website (link above) and it will answer most every question you may have about the organization. We do not park at military CG's because most of our members are not retired military, though it was initially formed for/by retired military. There are however some military CG's where the post/base commander(their prerogative) opened the CG to the public. S.M.A.R.T. organization is not connected in any way with the military or DOD.
  17. re: RV anti-freeze. I watch local big-box hardware store adds and buy a 6 gallon case for $1.99 per gallon. One case winterized our 5er for 3 years after I learned the most efficient method for our particular 5er.
  18. You'll find winterizing instruction for Splende washer/dryer combo on their website. I discourage just blowing out the lines with compressed air, as you'll never blow it all out, use Rv antifreeze, and bypass the water heater, what little water remains in the water heater and fresh water tank after draining will not harm them. That's all I have to add to previous recommendations.
  19. Go to a local farm supply store and check out their 12V pump inventory. The brands are the same as RV specific pumps but about 2/3 the cost. For instance: https://www.ruralking.com/valley-industries-everflo-4-gpm-pump-60-psi-ef-4000-box.html

    Memorial Day

Thanks for posting that again Derek, it always good to refresh everyone's memory! I am quite proud of the fact, my mother traced our family history back to ancestors serving in the revolutionary war, and every conflict since.
  21. Looks like the SMART(there is only one) team at HQ has not updated their page on militarycampgrounds.us Thanks,I'll email HQ and pass the information along.
  22. SMART= Special Military Active Recreational Travel club. Membership is open to anyone who ever served in the military, U.S.A. or Canada. We have a couple retired Generals, from there down to folks who served the 6 yr minimum. They all wrote the check upon entry unto the military. The above is the new name of the organization, originally it was formed by retired military members. The camaraderie is something one has to experience first-hand.
  23. Yes. I'm a life member of Good Sam and enjoy the experience (except it is now to large). I'm a member of SMART because it it limited to military veterans and enjoy that experience. I joined FMCA because it is limited to MH owners and we thought we might enjoy that experience too. No reason to pay dues to FMCA (other than the included EMS) if they open membership to anyone, just like Good Sam.
