  1. Sorry travelinbob I replied too quick I thought you were original poster.
  2. I'm not a Ford, Ram, or Chev fan. I only posted because I thought you wanted some questions answered and he's a guy who probably could help. I've towed our rig the last seven plus years with a Volvo.
  3. You need to call Waylon Long at 2L Custom Trucks in Poolville Texas northwest of Fort Worth. He is a master fab guy and could answer your questions. He was on the forums a few years back and does really good work. I have no interest in this business nor did he do work for me but I've seen his trucks. This could be a start for you. Dave
  4. We joined Escapees in 2010 before we had a tow or toad because we did some research and thought it seemed like a good club that we could be a part of when we go full timing, which we did in 2013. We have had many adventures and will try to continue to as long as possible. Two trips come to our minds as high lights. The first being an opportunity to visit with the founders, Joe and Kay Peterson on our first visit to Rainbows End in October of 2010 about two months before Joe passed. Remember them both as warm and welcoming to two complete strangers. The other was a trip in April of 2015 to Appomattox Court House for the 150th anniversary of the surrender of The Army of Northern Virginia to Federal troops. The reenactment was well worth our visit with great pictures and great pageantry. Dave
  5. I've been watching this sight and this tractor and if we were in the market for a short wb tractor in this condition with the paper work that goes with it this would be mine. It has the nice dinette and upper bunk that we would surely use. But as we fulltime and carry a golf cart on our Volvo we would have to make some adjustments to our lifestyle. The best of luck on your sale and I know this is the tractor for someone. Dave
  6. In my experience fleet based operations are all "private truck not for hire" i.e HEB grocery,Walmart,Coastal Transport etc. They do not carry product or freight other than their own. All commercial trucks carrying for hire including trucks leased to companies or businesses, to my knowledge, must display current IFTA stickers. Dave
  7. As Jay Leno says on TV, "I gotta guy.................... Dave
  8. I just changed insurance carriers the end of April from one big national company to another. We have almost the same declaration page with the same coverages plus additional coverage for the contents of the rig which is our home. This is saving us over $1,000.00 per year. But there is a but. You need to domicile in California or Texas and I am limited to 12,500 miles per year on the tractor which is licensed in Texas as a private truck. Dave
  9. Yesterday at Walmart/Murphy fuel in Pflugerville TX. regular was $1.35 and diesel $1.88.
  10. Txfamilycamper: Welcome to the forums and to fulltime rv'ing. I have a couple of questions. The first is you say your f 350 dually will weigh 14,000 and your toy hauler will weigh 20,,000 for a combined weight of 34,000. I looked at the curb weight of the f 350 on the Ford site and it weighs 7,500. I am a little confused. I don't think you will be putting 6,500 on your hitch when you hook up. My semi tractor weighs 17,000 alone and my two axle 42 foot fifth wheel weighs about 17,000 also on CAT scales which 34,000 give or take when I am fully fueled with about 200 gallons. That is why I am confused by your weight totals. Thank you, Dave
  11. We have done Florida and Arizona and between those two we liked AZ better. We have also done Port A / Rockport area for several years and it was nice and we made many friends that we keep in touch with. We now stay in the RGV on the west side in a park north of Edinburg. Large sites, in the country with the closest park over two miles to the east. No heavy winds but the occasional ground fog that would last a few hours. We like the people, the price and the activities that this park has plus easy drive to Progreso/Nuevo Progreso Mexico. The only negative that some folks would have is that you travel about fifteen miles into the Edinburg/Pharr area for groceries and restaurants. Dave
  12. Have had good service at Southern Tire Mart, located at 9665 US 290 East in Austin. They do all types of state inspections for rv's and other vehicles that need it. They have big bays and easy in and out of their property. Dave
  13. Since we are in the Des Moines area for several months we have decided to try and put new flooring in the 5er. Would like any recommendations on flooring craftsmen as we do not want to DIY since our knees couldn't take it any more (smile). No more carpet. Some type of laminate or tile. Thanks for any help with this. Dave
  14. Been Costco members for fifteen years. Before that Sams. In our opinion Costco is more upscale than Sams and they seem to offer a better variety of goods. Here in the RGV Costco is in Pharr which is fairly easy drive for us. Since we are full timers we buy mostly paper goods, non perishables and hearing aid supplies😀. We also love the cookies and the $1.50 lunch including the soda. Dave
  15. Thanks to all that have replied. Some things to check on and decide on what is best. Not real concerned about my long guns as I have the paperwork. The "short" guns and "short" gun ammo is the concern at this time. Have several months to plan. Dave
  16. We would like to visit Canada and since I want to obey the laws about firearms in our neighboring country can I legally ship them back to my legal address. I know without proper FFL's you can't use USPS but can you use another common carrier such as UPS or FEDEX as just a private citizen wanting to do the right thing ? Thanks Dave
  17. Thank you to all who have replied. DW and I are leaning real heavily into a sat system and all that goes with it. I guess another question would be is it easier to have qualified techs set up a system or should I (not real electronic-ee savvy) attempt to do this?? Dave
  18. Thank you for all of the replies. So much to consider. To narrow it down some would like a system that could accommodate two tvs and could be set for local news an weather where ever we might be, either east or west, north or south. To answer the question about recording we really don't record anything. If we miss a show it will be new to us some other time. Also would like an auto set up but would like get started with a tripod or carry out system to see how it works and if we like sat tv. Thanks Dave
  19. 1. Carry out and or tripod. 2. What is best for full timers? Read about "pay as you go" but is this option available on both systems? Dave
  20. We have been full timing for six years and have not thought too much about satellite TV until recently. We know next to nothing about it except what I have started to read in this forum. So, what questions should I ask and what type of searches should I do to start gathering information on this subject? Thank you Dave
  21. We have been using Kirkland (Costco) brand almost six years with never a problem. Also use Sea-Zyme in the black and galley tanks. Seems to help with odors. Dave
  22. I and the DW voted yesterday, Monday, the 22nd at the Judicial Center, which is right behind the court house in Livingston. Voting is Monday through Fridays now until Nov. 2nd. Dave On edit should have said through Nov. 2nd

The spelling police have confirmed that Cabela's is spelled with one L, not two. "-) Dave

    Insurance

Talked with my agent in early March about possible increases from National General due to the claims from the hurricanes that affected so many people. He said if it goes up more than we would like he would help to find another carrier and try to hold the coverage to what we have. Renewal received in mid March and rig and truck went up $20.00 per month. Satisfied with coverage and agent. Dave
