1. I Just finished the installation of my Jackalopee and Direct Link controller on my 780 and everything is working fine 🙂. just wandering what trailer brake settings others are using on their Rigs? My trailer is 18000# fully loaded triple axle Toy Hauler. The default setting is at +3 Factory and mine feels good at +10 right now and a setup for a large trailer and +5 holding power at a stop. just curious as to what other are running as a brake setting on their rigs to see if its all working the way it supposed to. Thanks Money Maker
2. To all those ahead of me, I'm getting ready to install my Jackalopee in the drivers side storage compartment and was wanting to find out where is the best spot to run my cable thru the floor to the outside of the truck. I have some dry seal fittings to run the cable thru and will need to put two 1-1/8 dia holes for the cables in the floor of the compartment (one in from the truck connector and then out to the bed). looking for input on where to put the holes from people that have done this before and not having to try and find out (%$@%) I cant go thru there. 3. Yes, the key to the to Direct Link operation is the OBD harness. The RS232 serial cable I talked about is the cable with the DB9 connectors on the ends. I just added an extension cable to it to reach from the ODB port conversion box to the side compartment of the 780.
4. Looking at what all has been talked about so far, I’m looking at mounting the Jackalopee in the side compartment on my 780. I have the wiring from the truck to the Jackalopee done and starting on the wiring from the direct link controller to the Jackalopee. Sitting and thinking on the connections shown from phoenix2013 showing the split connector on the inputs to the Jackalopee made some wheels start turning in places they hadn’t turned in a while. Why couldn’t I take the direct link controller and mount it in the same place as the Jackalopee then I could just tap into the signals needed for it on the 4 wire Dephi connector. I tested the serial cable from the controller to the adapter box and it’s just a straight thru cable, so I went back to my pile of computer cables and got a rs232 extension cable and tested all the wires were the same places, then I needed an RJ11 telephone extension cable to run from the controller to the small brake controller mounted on the dash. This should get all the controller wiring in as short as possible configuration and tucked out of the way and easy to work on in the future if needed. I will try to get some pics this week.
5. What can you do with a 4 angle grinder and a couple of weekends, you start with a bed like this whittle on it with the angle grinder till you get to this point use a 4x4 1" thick plate yes I know its overkill but I had the plate at home from another project notch it on the sides to clear between the frame rails of the bed and on top of the main frame rails of the truck then drop on a TLSB hitch with three air bags on top of the plate and now I have all the hitch I need for my trailer, still need to finish out the trim work on the sides and the front and back end to make it look good and bolt the hitch down. center of the pin is 23" behind the rear axle. but one HECK of a start to getting this rig on the road.
6. My 780 had a bad vibration at 50mph plus, had complete front end rebuild(kingpins, bearings and a new carrier bearing, front steer tires balanced good and had retread super singles on rear. went to have them balanced and only did 2 tires on passenger side before throwing in the towel on them. one tire was 43 ounces and the other was 36 ounces (ouch) so i replaced the 4 supers with virgin tires and all the vibration is GONE, smooth sailing all the way to 85mph plus on the truck. Moma loves the ride now. hope you find the problem and enjoy the truck.
7. good luck on whichever hitch you decide on. maybe well cross paths at one of the rallies and compare trucks. Me 2012 Volvo 780
8. have no more info other than the pics shown https://lasvegas.craigslist.org/rvs/d/tecopa-air-ride-5th-wheel-hitch/7340591536.html looks to be all there ? good luck on a replacement hitch.
9. a pic of the hitch you can see that it has straight sides.
10. you can see the section of the frame rail to the inside of the bed rails
11. the height will be good at between 45 to 47 inches, my only question is trimming the frame rails on the top to allow for the width of the hitch. I need to trim the rails on the inside about 20 inches from the rear of the truck frame. hope the pics come thru Click For Full-Size Image.

Frame Mod

Question for all those in the know, Our NEW to us VOLVO 780 has a custom bed already installed with just a gooseneck ball. looking at how the bed is built structure wise I can open up the top and get down to the frame rails with no problem without removing the bed support beams. the hitch that I have is and AIR SAFE omni 25k which is square and straight up on the sides and it will not fit between the truck frame rails at the top without cutting them back about 1.375 (1 3/8) on each side due to the support towers and air bags of the hitch on all four corners. has anybody narrowed the top frame rail to accommodate a wide hitch like this? I love the ride that this hitch has and with the stiff suspension of the truck I need it to work. also, this truck is still tandem running super singles.
14. Thanks to all who commented on this post, got insurance thru the office in Humble, tx and we are going to go take a good look at the future NEW to us HDT hauler. will try to post a pic or two when we get it home. Moneymaker
15. Using a REESE puck adapter and an AIRSAFE 25K OMNI-DIRECTIONAL hitch been the best ride in a 2015 F350 dually and 43ft toy hauler on rough roads
