Classes of 2008 and 2009

Recommended Posts

April 22-Apr 28 we are at Elgin AFB, at Fort Walton Beach, FL. Very few people here since the snowbirds have pretty much left. Still just staying warm and trying to avoid the mid-west bad weather as long as we can until July when we have to be Kansas. I sure hope all the snowbirds and winter Texans heading home are finding safe places to stay during all the bad weather.

Yeah, we've been getting a little weather. Just had some t-storms fire up near the casino a while ago. Had a tornado warning for a while, but everything calmed down now. All we got here was a little rain, and we need that, so it was ok. We are supposed to get severe weather on Sunday, so we'll just have to keep an eye out. The esatern half of Oklahoma has had some rain, but nothing out west, so all the rain dancers are getting fired up  Dennis Miller is at the casino tomorrow night, so this place will probably be hopping. They have an outdoor band area now, so we can just open the windows and listen. Steve

Steve - does the casino have a place you can run to if need be? Stay safe.

Back in Apache Junction for a week or so until Jim's medication and our mail catch up to us. Then we're headed north into a little cooler weather.

Well, we made it another 475 miles north today. I'm not sure I'd take the same route again. Terry seems to think it was all uphill but we did end up at an elevation under 500' tonight and earlier today we were 5000 feet higher so I guess it couldn't all be uphill. It is cooler. I think we'll shut that air conditioner down now and use the furnace instead. We've certainly had to use the air conditioner way too much for this early in the year. Today was a beautiful day for a drive though. Sunshine was out and very little wind.

Well I got it to work last night but it sure took a while. Oh well, If I wasn't wasting time sitting here waiting for the screen to change of for something to post, I'd probably be snacking. So It's just as well. The weekend warriors are here in force. There isn't a place big enough to stand left in the park. I even had one character ask if I'd move my trailer so he could get into the picnic table behind me. I told him not only NO but Hell NO. That picnic table belongs to this site and it's so crowded back here now I'll have to back out because it isn't big enough for me to make the loop and pull out going forward. I just can't imagine anyone having the nerve to ask someone to hook up and pull out so they can get into a spot then him have to pull back in and re-level ect. Then I would have to do it again when he left Monday morning. The gall of some people. I think I'll resign from the human race. I did lots of walking and lots of carving today. Half the carving was because I did it once and didn't like it so I shaved it off and tried another way. The weather down here in the hole has been peachy Keen. It's probably as windy as the fat lady that sings up on top though.

Yes, the casino has a shelter almost in front of us. I think it has a slot machine in it! I guess that gives you something to hold on to while riding out the storm. Steve

Another day of watching the Weekend Warriors. Loud cars and motorcycles going up and down the road all day because there is no other place for them to go except home. Boy the lousy internet connection is realy slow tonight. I've been on the computer for 40 minutes and have just got to this page. So I may be wasting my time and find out that it won't post. Oh Well, My MOM told me every night. "Sleep Tight" so I guess I'd better break out the cramberry juice and get ready for bed.

Today didn't start out well. Yesterday I was running the batwing and neglected to take it down last night. This morning, without checking, I fired up the satelite dish and they had a bit of conflict on the roof. So I had interlocking antennas. One of the wings on the batwing is a little bent now but it still works. The hard part was getting on the roof. I had to stop and have a glass of milk and a few cookies. I hate heights.

It would have been a good day to go rabbit hunting. But I repented and went to church. It's a good thing too, because I discovered I'm going to have to go back to Los Lunas for a few more plumbing parts in order to get the water tank straightened out. I've replumbed 7 houses in the last few years and I don't think I made it through any of them without two trips to the hardware store. One would think I could install a simple tank with only one trip. This time I'll make up a list instead of relying on my mouse trap mind.

h4 fw54t89 8-n0jn5y3n4999r. Hmmmm had the fingers on the wrong part of the keyboard! What I said was, be careful up on the roof, Dave

Looks like Joe opened the rain door and let some of it escape. The floodgates opened during the night, and it has rained (thunderstorms) all day today. Looks like we're not through yet. It's plenty dry around here, so we are glad to get it, but it sure made a mess of a lot of Easter plans. I think I see colored eggs floating down the street right now. A couple of orange ones that must have come from Washington I think. I had a window drain plugged, (must have been all that desert dust) and the water was running down the wall. I caught it early and pulled the slide in, but the carpet was pretty wet. Have had a fan on it all day and it is finally getting dry. Happy Easter everyone. Steve

I don't blame Dave for going bunny hunting on Easter. This park was a mess all day. I took a walk the length of the park this morning and there was one reserved site with 18 cars parked at or in the road in front of that site. I wonder what happed to the rule I read about only allowing one vehicle and one towed vehicle per site. Most of them have gone now so the place is pretty darn quiet this evening. I checked underground weather for the forcast for this coming week and they had predicted 5 days of snow. That set me back a notch. Then I looked at the altitude and they had the reporting station at 6800 feet. This place is only at 5765 feet. They must have been reporting every town withing 100 miles the same as the reporting weather station. It is supposed to get a little cool hear. It well be getting nights in the low 40's and a few days it will only make it up to about 65. Just nice sleeping weather. Today had a lot of thunder heads forming but they must have been heading for Oklahoma. There were so many of them that the controller on my solar system was going crazy. I'd get 30 amps then a cloud would come over and it would drop to 3 or 4 amps. It might help if I hired Dave to climb up there and wash the mud off the panels. I'd even serve milk and cookies. I spent most of the day sharpening gouges today. Thats a job I don't particularly like. Maybe I can get Steve to do it for me if I comment on his SHARP wit.

I get a chuckle when the weather folks attempt humor. They are saying tomorrow the winds will be an "event" and if you are allergic to small children and lawn furniture, you might want to stay inside. Almost all of New Mexico will be under severe wind conditions with gusts up to 70mph. It seems the jet stream is going to pay us a visit.

With this El Nina weather pattern going, it's really hard to predict. They just said to expect winds in excess of 75mph on I-40 east of Albuquerque. If I remember right, that's getting real close to hurricane force. I do know an 80mph micro burst took the roof off my house and garage a couple of years ago.

I just finished a couple of preparations. I hooked up the truck and really tightened up the landing gear and stabilizers. Being parked beside the "casita" will also be a big help. It's a 8,600lb. wind break. I could put a leash on Millie tomorrow. Then I could try flying a dog.

That wind that Dave is buckling up for must have got lined up with this canyon. This morning the wind down here was popping the canvas on my slid topper. However, later on we were only getting the gusts. The campground is practically empty. A bus load of early teen age kids pulled into the group shelter area and set up camp. I had a free show watching a group of boys trying to set up a rather large tent in swirling winds. about two hours after they arrived a group of about 20 of them took the 2 1/2 mile loop walk up to the top of the cliff then along the cliff's edge and back down at the other end. Boy, they must have been in a hurry they made it in record time and that's a pretty steep climb up to the top. I took my walk up the hill on the other side this morning. It's a pretty nice view from the hill top but only about 3/4 of a mile walk ( but pretty steep). This evening a bunch of girls came into my site with a big plastic bag. They were policing the whole campground. They did a real good job. With all the trash that was blowing around from what the weekend warriors scattered aroung. About all I did other than walk was paint a cane handle I carved the other day. I have to get a long lag screw before I can put the handle on a cane blank I have that I plan to get ready for the raffle next year at the slabs for the area children. If I see any dogs flying over with a long leash dragging I'll grab it and tie it to one of these big cottonwood trees.

Well, in my area the winds were strong and gusty but I don't think there was anything over 50mph. They did clock winds in Albuquerque over 60mph and one 18 wheeler was blown over on I-25 by Santa Fe. I tried to get Millie to fly, but she won't even jump.

When I woke up this morning is was sprinkling. Not enough to settle the dust. It just made spots all over everything that had dust on it. At least I thought is was rain but it may have been when Dave was tring to get Millie to fly. It just scared the P out of her. The bunch of teen agers loaded up in the bus this morning and went on some type of trip. They got back about noon and were playing in the river. The wind here in the canyou got pretty bad today. The river her flows from south to north. (we must be on a double bend in the river} Some of the boys were floating in the river on big sky blue tubes that looked like big donuts. The water was trying to take them North but the wind was pushing them back south. When the wind would die down for a few minutes they would come back to where they started. Another mixed bunch of kids were climbing up and down the sand stone ledges on the cliff. Some of them got pretty high up. I went to town and got some lunch meat and tortillas to last me the rest of the week then came back to the park and hooked up my trailer and changed sites. I'm now in 14B. I knew the other site would be hard to get out of and take a little time. I had to back the trailer up an hill with loose gravel and a very sharp curve at the top where it meets the road. I took my time and had no problem at all but I'm sure glad I don't have that staring me in the face the day I have to move. (2 May) This site has a water faucet near where the drive hits the road. I can stop on my way out and fill the fresh water tank. This site is also level. So I put away all the blocking. I haven't even unhooked the truck again. I shouldn't need to before I leave. It has turned a little chilly here. It only got up to 62 today and it has already dropped down to 49 and it just now got dark. I still have a whole tank of LP so with that and a bottle of cranberry juice I should feel just fine.

sitting by myself in Indiana. I hope there are no tornados here! seems like we have watches and warnings almost every day. Paul flew to TX yesterday to spend a week with his mom, and drive a car back to Indiana for our daughter. his first flight to TX was cancelled due to the bad storms, so he had to spend the time shopping for wedding stuff with my daughter and I, poor guy.

Quarter-sized hail is nothing!! It's the hail that looks like the ice cubes in your freezer that are scary!

Joe -- It was nice on Saturday. It's been dripping stuff from the sky ever since but at least it's not too cold.
