Classes of 2008 and 2009

Recommended Posts

Well I got part of my mail and one of the orders I am waiting for today. That's two down and two to go. The wind has been blowing most of the day but not too bad down here. I was able to sit outside and carve for a while this afternoon by sitting in the lee of my trailer. However, I had to give that up because the wind blowing the cotton wood tree beside me was causing the lighting to go from sun to shade to sun etc and I couldn't see very good. Looking over towards Dave's place I don't see anything but blowing sand. The mountains have vanished. Maybe Dave put them in his Casita before the wind blows them away too. Well if I get the rest of my mail tomorrow and the UPS delivers I'll be ready to head down the road again Monday. I have to do a laundry before I go anywhere though.

After a day of winds it's time to get back to work today. Thankfully I don't think it was blowing as hard as predicted. It did rattle the trailer a bit but things really calmed down inside when I hooked up the truck and really tied the trailer down. There is nothing like a 7,000lb anchor to take the sway out. I think I may need to look into one of those 5th wheel stabilizer kits. Also now that I have the septic installed and the "casita" to store tools and other junk I carry, the trailer is lighter and more succeptable to the wind.

I need to get off my duff and take a run to Los Lunas to the Lowes store today or tomorrow and pick up a truck load of parts and pieces to install my water tank. It's going to require several plumbing parts, pex line, and all the associated fittings to get it hooked up. I'm going to have to be careful with my list. I had a hardware store 1/4 mile from the sticks and bricks but Los Lunas is over 100 miles round trip. Even as I write this, I'm thinking of things that need to be added. This little project should keep me out of trouble for a day or two.

We had a stormy day in Oklahoma yesterday, and the wind hasn't gone away yet! The storm line formed up right over us and we got a little hail, rain and a lot of wind. Had a few tornados too, but not around here. Sure looked like tornado weather. I pulled in the slides just before the hail hit, but we didn't get very big stuff this time. I just finished putting a roof on the house, so I don't want any of this hail stuff around here  Speaking of that,(house), no closing yet, but we're still hanging in there. Banks are sure taking their time getting everything processed. Looks like the end of the month now. The casino is really crowded this week. All the RV spots are full and they are still coming in. Looks like it's going to be a "hot time in the old casino" this weekend. Now if the wind would just quit for a while.

Lee, you've got me confused now. You said you were sitting on the lee side of the trailer. I thought you owned the whole thing??? <_< Steve

Wondered about you folks with all the storms in your area. We also were hoping your house had closed and you were off to the next adventure. Be careful around those tornados!

Chalk one up for Steve. I thought I owned the whole trailer too. But maybe I just own the hole in the trailer. Now I'm confused.

I got all my mail and the things I ordered in. The last package came in about 8:00 PM in one of those big brown trucks with UPS on the side. I had a heck of a time trying to find a place to store it all. I ordered 6 pieces of Cotton wood bark with that order and boy did he send some big pieces. ( I don't need that closet for clothes anyway. I'll just toss all my closes on the bed )( That way I can get dressed without getting out of bed) Now all I have to do to be ready to head out Monday morning is go to Belen tomorrow and get some LP gas and top off the truck tank. Then come back to the RV Park and do my laundry. Where are those cowgirls when you need one. Was a bit breezy today but not bad at all. I sat outside carving most of the day. The lady that lives beside me came over today and introduced herself and talked for a while. I showed her my carving and she had to run and get her husband and when he got here she ran to get another man she said did some carving of walking sticks and such. What started out as a friendly 10 minute chat with a neighbor ended up being an hour long show and tell party.

Lee,

you should write a blog. Your posts here are so much fun to read, I always look forward to them.

Steve, I am crossing my fingers that the sale of the house still goes through without too much of a hitch.

we've had our own "house" issues as well. We have been in the Goshen area for almost a week, trying to deal with these problems.

its been a very stressful time but hopefully in another week things will look better.

We took our Everest back in to Keystone to get the frame flexing issue fixed for the 2nd time. Paul has noticed some really bad warping and twisting. He showed the shop manager and a Lippert representative what he was talking about. We sat and waited for a few hours while they pulled the trailer nose cone off etc and then came back in to talk to us. They agreed that the trailer has serious issues. The floor is bowed, the outriggers are bent, the walls are separating and the slides are warping. there are several broken welds- some they can see, but some they would have to pull the trailer apart further to find.

Kudos for Keystone that they didn't hesitate to say they will swap us into a brand new trailer. They don't make the Everest anymore so it took two days of discussions and "shopping", to come up with an alternative that we could both agree on. So, next Thursday or Friday we should be able to swap out into our new "home", a 2012 Keystone Alpine 3200RL. Its bigger than our Everest, so it won't be exactly an even swap, but we're happy with their reasonable offer.

In the meantime, while we wait for the paperwork, we are in Muncie IN visiting with our daughter. We'll actually be here for a month before heading on to New England to see our son,

Good for you. Of course I had to immediately google 2012 Keystone Alpine 3200RL to have a look.

WOW - been awhile since I posted - Guess I need to change my sign in from "Ready to Ride" to "Pokey to Post"

Sue and Paul - so glad you worked out your "house" issues - look forward to pics of the new rig.

Steve and Carol - all fingers and toes crossed on the house closing happening SOON!!!!!

Our news - had a nice lunch with Jerry and Janice in Jerome and then moved up to Winslow - we sat out a huge wind storm 60+ MPH- first time we ever pulled in the slide outs!

We are now in Cameron AZ on the Navajo Indian Reservation - will do some riding on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon and the Navajo reservation - then plan to move on to Page/ Marble Canyon - then into Utah - Zion- Bryce etc.

Jerry & Janice - you guys still plan on southern Utah in May? Anyone else? Always looking to crossing paths with everyone from our classes!!!

I guess so, technically. Not sure how you're supposed to get to the little seat with all the clothes hanging there, but we only spent about 10 minutes in the trailer, so we'll have to check it all out when we get it.

Nothing makes up for the LACK of kitchen cabinets though. We'll have to be creative with where we put things.

we're hoping to get it on Thursday or Friday next week, depending on how fast we can get the paperwork done. Part of the delay is our fault- we decided to make the switch to Texas domicile at the same time, and are awaiting our new address.

Meantime our daughter wants to go to the outdoor carnival on campus tonight and the wind is whipping at 40 mph with a windchill of about 30 degrees. I hate to disappoint her but...................

Sure is good to hear about all the good weather that most of the class is having. The great PNW is still having a problem getting rid of the rain. So I've been using the time to work on restocking the "Cranberry Juice". :o However it does appear that I'm going to have to take a break from that and actually do some W*** starting this next week. ;) Hope to see some of you folks up here in this area before our summer (we generally get at 2 weeks of it :D ) is over.

Steve, you jess gotta get that house deal done so you can get up here for that wedding.

Wow, Sue, what a mess. Sure glad they worked with you guys to get a new unit. At least with Paul's background he was able to notice what was going on and get it looked at before it fell apart on the road! :o Sounds like you got it worked out to your satisfaction. Can't wait to see pictures. That's a rough time to have to go through on the road "in your home". Steve

I went to Belen this morning and got a tank of LP then went to Wally World and got a prescription filled and found a builders supply to get some clear plastic tubing to make blade guards for all the new knives I got in the mail yesterday. But guess what. I forgot to top of the truck gas tank and that's about the closest gas station. Oh well, I'm only going about 100 miles Monday so maybe I can stop at Daves and siphon his tank to get me there. When I got back to the RV Park I was going to do laundry but it wouldn't do me much good until after I take a shower. I'll do that tonight. (Maybe I can wash my clothes in the shower and kill two birds with one stone.) So I didn't get much done as far as getting ready to go. I did get a lot done on the carving project though. I actually had the carving all done but have been sanding on it for the past two days. I almost got that done now. The Celtic knot in the spone handle is a booger to sand.

Soos, For kitchen cabinet room I doubled all the shelves except one for tall boxes etc. then I made sliding trays or boxes to put stuff in so I can get at even the stuff in the back of the shelf. Have Paul take a look and see if he can't put a shelf inbetween each existing shelf.

I think I have oldtimers disease. I cut my finger the other day and it started to bleed so I held a piece of TP on it untill it quit. Then I put a bandaid on it. A few minutes later I notice a small spot of blood on my pants. So I got a cloth and used cold water to get it out but while doing so I kept getting more and more spots on my pants. Upon closer examination I found I had put the bandaid on the wrong finger and I had started the cut to bleed again by bumping it or something. So, back to the TP to stop the bleading then a new bandaid. A few minutes later I sat down at the piano and played a tune and here comes the blood again. It was dripping all over the place. More TP. I sat down at the table in discuss and looked at the finger. Guess What, I had taped the wrong finger again. And the piano playing broke the cut open again. I'm beginning to think there is no help for me. Where is it that I was going to go Monday Morning?????

I don't think you'll be going anywhere fast Monday. If the weather folks are right, it's gonna be a high wind day.

You and your leaking fingers! If that keeps up, we are going to have to remove all those sharp objects you're playing with! You could bandage the whole hand. Then remove a small piece at a time until you find the leak. :P

Well I got the laundry done and emptied and rinsed the holding tanks so I guess I'm resdy to go tomorrow morning. If that wind is as strong as Dave says I won't need to stop at his place and siphon his gas to make it to Villanueva SP, NM. The wind usually comes from the west and I'm heading east most of the way. I think I may have invented a new way to loose weight. I just checked the frig and it is getting low on a lot of things. I checked the towns around Villanueva and the biggest thing I find is Villanueva itself and it only has about 200 residence. I might come up a little short on the vittles. I checked to see how far Las Vegas, NM is from there and the way the roads run what would be about 23 miles the way the crow flies ends up being 45 miles via the roads. I'm beginning to think that you can't get to there from here. The wind has been blowing all day here but not too bad and it has calmed down a lot this evening. The wind usually doesn't kick up around here until afternoon and I should be there by then. It's only about 118 miles via the blue roads. If I went via the interstate it would be about 145 miles and I'd have to go through Albuquerque and Santa Fe. No Thanks I'll wander around in the boonies any old day rather that battle the cities.

I would like to comment on several things here. First, the reason that I have several things to comment on, is that I've been neglecting all sorts of things lately and not watching the forums. 1- Great idea to combine the classes of 08 and 09! 2- Back to the roller coaster thread... My wife is a major coaster fan and I have been on all the stateside coasters mentioned earlier. We hold our stuff while riding the coasters and while I try to not injure my arthritis affected neck! If you like coasters, do not miss the Rockin' Roller Coaster at MGM in Disneyworld. Very fast, very smooth, and really cool!

Lastly, we have been traveling on and off with friends we met in California last spring. They are currently staying in a condo waiting for repairs to be performed on the new rig they bought. A Carri-lite fifth wheel. We have been with them from Gilroy, California into Washington state, and down to Key West. I won't get into the issues unless someone asks, but the rig is down again, this time for at least another month. Our hearts go out to Alan and Crystle. By the way, we are in Sarasota, heading for Orlando. After that... Panhandle of Florida maybe? Love this life! Porter and Vicki

It is so good to catch up with everybody again. I feel like I've been out of touch for a lifetime even though it's only been a week. The Walk was really great and I'm sure glad we helped out. We're back in Las Vegas and going to have dinner with Jeri and Terry tonight. Now onto blog reading for the next couple of hours.
