CHIEFWAHO
Inspired by bmzero's seat install http://www.followmybuild.com/bmzero/Volvo-730-HDT-RV-Hauler/Interior-Upgrades/Photo-Gallery-3442 I decided it was time to knock this out before the upcoming trip to South Dakota. The Toyota Sienna seats were sourced from eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/162065240798?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT I believe the same source bmzero used. Opted for the same exact seat for both sides, no drive and passenger. Seats were delivered promptly in 2 well packaged boxes. 1999 Volvo VNL610, Cummins M11 - 350/400 HP, 10 speed Rockwell - 'CHIEF' Custom flatbed with TrailerSaver air hitch. 3 cyl 8000 watt Kubota diesel generator. CHIEFWAHO
After some discussion with bmzero it was time to start hacking. Trim and bottom seat cushion removed. While stripping these down I found a build date of March of this year. Here is where the hacking begins To get these to fit over the Volvo base nearly all the center section of donor seat frame structure must be removed. Can't begin to count how many time we had the seat back and bottom cushion on and off to achieve a height we liked. Ending up using a 13.5" long piece of 2" x 2" x 3/16" angle to butt up against the existing donor framework at the rear slider mount. The front was 1/4" x 2" x 18" bar with 1/2" x 1" x 3" bar on top of it to space away from the slider lever. 1/4" thick tabs were welded to the spacer bar to enable bolting to the front sliders. 1999 Volvo VNL610, Cummins M11 - 350/400 HP, 10 speed Rockwell - 'CHIEF' Custom flatbed with TrailerSaver air hitch. 3 cyl 8000 watt Kubota diesel generator. noteven
What advantage are van seats vs replacing worn out seats with heavy duty truck seats? "Are we there yet?" asked no motorcycle rider, ever.
GeorgiaHybrid
You didn't talk to zero long enough. If you had, he would have added an airbag under the seat and then used the handle under the bottom seat cushion as an ejection handle. Other than that, nice fab job. 2017 Kenworth T6802015 DRV 38RSSA Elite Suites2016 Smart Prime
CHIEFWAHO
What advantage are van seats vs replacing worn out seats with heavy duty truck seats? The advantage for me is I have 2 brand new leather seats and am only out around $350 and some time. Plus we now have seats that recline and have armrest all around. 1999 Volvo VNL610, Cummins M11 - 350/400 HP, 10 speed Rockwell - 'CHIEF' Custom flatbed with TrailerSaver air hitch. 3 cyl 8000 watt Kubota diesel generator. hdonlybob
Very nice job !! I did a similar switch when I had my 610 Volvo using Buick bucket seats from a junkyard. Loved them, and to answer a previous post about what the advantage is....the cost it was minuscule compared to new semi seats. 1989 Safari Serengeti 34'Towing a 1952 M38A1 Military Willys Past HDT owner

CHIEFWAHO
Nearly complete. Just letting some glue dry. Where the blue tape is, was a lever that was not longer to be used. We just decided to glue it in place to cover the hole. 1999 Volvo VNL610, Cummins M11 - 350/400 HP, 10 speed Rockwell - 'CHIEF' Custom flatbed with TrailerSaver air hitch. 3 cyl 8000 watt Kubota diesel generator.
