  1. You really should do a patrol ride along sometime if your jurisdiction offers it. I believe your thinking might change significantly. While underway, LEO's are not madly typing away on their laptop keyboards. They do check the screen from time to time though, when calls or alerts come in. Is looking at the laptop screen really any different than looking at the screen on many current car dashboards that display all sorts of operating data as well as GPS maps, etc.? Some departments are moving to demountable tablets though, that are likely a bit safer since they can be steering wheel mounted requiring less eye/head movement.
  2. The laptop is used for a number of things while underway including data lookups that used to require a radio call to dispatch. Cars equipped with license plate readers for instance, can display near real time information when a stolen plate is spotted. Dispatch can also send call out data such as addresses and background information without sending it over the airwaves. I think that's much safer than the days when the patrol cars often had notepads attached to the steering wheel for jotting down addresses, phone numbers, etc. from radio calls while underway.
  3. My Visible SIM has been in a Verizon MiFi hotspot for the past 2 years or so. While it's technically a violation of their TOS, I've never gotten any error messages or complaints from them. If they someday decide to drop me for using only one of the three services I'm paying for, then I'll sign my wife up and do it their way.
  4. WOW! As I recall, the original design life for Voyager 1 and 2 was around 5 years!
  5. I've been asked many times about the fuel mileage, but she was the first that added a "guilt" question to it.
  6. The limited availability of UWB holds no interest for me at this point, so I'll likely stay with the $25 plan as long as it's available. Visible is primarily a backup to my primary AT&T data service for those increasingly rare places where the AT&T coverage is weaker than the VZW coverage.
  7. Maybe fitting Artemis 1 with used engines wasn't such a good idea after all.
  8. The Artemis 1 mission has been pushed back to at least Friday due to an anomaly with engine #3. https://www.cnn.com/2022/08/29/world/nasa-artemis-1-launch-scn/index.html
  9. Looks like a homemade shim of some sort, perhaps to correct a worn bushing or shaft. With nothing to indicate the relative size, it's difficult to come up with a specific application though.
  10. But how much is the flow rate reduced when the input water temp is low? That would also mean lowering the cold water flow to maintain the same shower temperature.
  11. Could be, but I'm not sure the reduction makes for a comfortable shower...
  12. Good things to know, but I can't help you with them. Sorry...
  13. From the RVMP "Details": "...the RVMP RV Flex Temp On-Demand Water Heater comes equipped with industry-first safety features like a carbon monoxide detector, propane leak detector, anti-freezing system, and anti-scald system." (emphasis added)
  14. You're absolutely right, I don't know where my mind went at the time. I meant to say "FOBT", a Fecal Occult Blood Test.
  15. Not an insult, but a few weeks ago I did have a 20'ish young lady ask me if I ever feel guilty about our motorhome's poor fuel mileage while I was refueling at a Pilot station. I told her not a bit, that when we reached our destination later that day, the RV would be sitting still for a couple of weeks. In the meantime, we would use the much higher MPG car hooked behind us that's making the same trip using no fuel. That seemed to confuse her enough that she just said, "Oh", and walked away.
  16. Yes, the VA stopped mine at 70 too. My private PCP ordered what she thought would be my last colonoscopy when I was 75. When it turned up a circular tumor (fortunately benign) that required surgical removal by a specialist, I had to have two follow up colonoscopies, the second one last year, both completely clear. Now at 79, I've been told I won't need any more unless something changes in my PSA numbers. I won't miss them. I wonder how old I need to be to end prostate checks...
  17. Yes, while Starlink has certainly refined phased arrays and brought the cost down for consumer use, they're really nothing new.
  18. Just an information point, the phased array antenna technology used by Starlink was first demonstrated by physicist Karl F. Braun in 1905.
  19. The Dinosaur board I used on our Atwood water heater is not potted. It is protected by Dinosaur's optional plastic cover though. The board has been in service for about 5 years now.
  20. My first go to for pine pitch whether it's on the car, my hands, or even clothes, is ordinary hand sanitizer. The alcohol works well to dissolve the pitch and I've not yet found a surface it harms.
  21. I don't know if they spray or take any other mitigation measures at Midway. I just know insects have never been an issue during our many winter stays there.
  22. We've always been pleasantly surprised at the lack of significant bugs at the NPS Midway Campground on the Tamiami Trail (US 41) in the Big Cypress National Preserve next door to the Everglades during our winter stays.
  23. Yes, as I noted the fridges draw a lot less than A/C's, making the soft start less useful. Like you, my coach is also 50 amp, but I installed the hard start kits years ago so I could run both A/C's when on a 30 amp hookup. I wouldn't spend the $600 for this device just for that though. The hard start kits were around $30 as I recall, but that was almost 10 years ago.
