  1. We both switched to Humana's Supplement -- it was the least expensive that I found for Plan G in our area and we got a small monthly discount for both of us signing up (DH had already been with another supplement plan). Underwriting called us and asked a few questions. I have no pre-existing conditions, but DH does. However, they only go as far back as 2 years so that wasn't a problem. We both got approved, got our cards, and are now on the new plan effective today, 11/1.
  2. So that means that you have to be outside with them, otherwise you wouldn't be able to recall them, right? What I want to know is do you watch for them to poop and then go pick it up? I've seen too many people who just open the door, let their dog out to poop where ever and the owners have no way of knowing where they did their business and, of course, don't pick it up -- leaving it for someone else out walking their dog to step in it.
  3. I never call. Instead, I use the form provided in the Member's area on the Escapees' website. That way, I don't have to hold and I know that there's nothing lost in translation that can often happen when talking with someone on the phone.
  4. No, we don't use them. When we're traveling, whether we're boondocking (which we do most of the time) or in an RV park, our dogs are on a leash with us holding the other end. We do NOT let our dogs run free. Also, when we're out walking the dogs, we don't want an unleashed dog running up to us. Not only do we not know what the intentions of the other dog is, but one of our dogs is not dog friendly.
  5. I don't know what affidavit you're talking about (or, for that matter, what the "ten commandments of Texas domicile" is), but if getting a driver's license in Livingston, TX (home of the Escapees) is going to be a problem for you, then I can't imagine that South Dakota would be any easier -- and, personally, I wouldn't want to be in South Dakota in January! You can call the Livingston Driver's License office and ask questions of them: (936) 327-6806
  6. I have no idea what any of this means, but my phone isn't affected and neither is my husband's older phone.
  7. One of the problems with an invisible fence in a boondocking situation is that, even if your dog doesn't charge through it after irresistible prey, other animals -- like coyotes -- can cross over and snatch your dog. There's no way I'd ever use one for that very reason (ignoring the fact that one of our dogs is a Basenji that are very prey-driven). We spend most of our time boondocking and when the dogs are outside, they're on a leash with us at the other end.
  8. Could you explain, please? I've heard nothing about CoachNet going out of business.
  9. We have friends who were in a wreck with their less than 5-year-old fifth wheel which the insurance company totaled. They had Total Loss Replacement Coverage on their fifth wheel and the insurance company replaced it with a new model of the same brand. Here's what my policy says, in part, under Total Loss Replacement/Purchase Price Coverage: "In the event of a total loss, if your recreational vehicle is, at the time of the loss, the current model year, or through the fourth preceding model year, out limit of liability will be: a) replacement of your recreational vehicle with a recreational vehicle that is, to the extent possible, the same make, size and type, contains comparable equipment to your recreational vehicle, and has not previously had a title issued or recorded to any person or entity other than a dealer or manufacturer; b) the actual cash value of your recreational vehicle at the time of the loss minus the applicable deductible; or c) the cost, up to the purchase price, to repair or replace the damaged parts of your recreational vehicle minus he applicable deductible; whichever you choose." It goes on to explain what happens in the event of a total loss after five years.
  10. I can never understand an RV park that has a webpage that doesn't include the rates! That's one of the reasons I visit an RV park's website -- to find out how much it will cost. If they don't have that information, I pass.
  11. You absolutely NEED fulltimers insurance, which provides the liability normally found in homeowners insurance. Yes, it's more expensive than "regular" RV insurance because you're combining both RV and homeowners liability insurance. If you new RV is actually *new,* you will also want Total Loss Replacement coverage which will replace your RV with an equivalent new one in the case of a total loss during the first 5 model years and pay you want your purchase price was thereafter. Of course, if the RV is "new to you," then this coverage wouldn't apply. Just a note on Total Loss Replacement coverage: Make SURE that the replacement coverage is for a period of 5 years. When I was searching for insurance for the rig in my signature, I came across one company that had a period of only 18 months for their Total Loss Replacement coverage! (I *think* the company was Geico, but I'm not sure.)
  12. For others looking for SmartWeigh locations, in addition to Livingston, there are SmartWeigh locations at the SKP parks in Congress, AZ and Bushnell, FL. https://www.escapees.com/education/smartweigh/
  13. Our first RV was a slide-in truck camper that we bought in 1996. A couple of years later, we decided to try fulltiming and had a New Horizon's fifth wheel designed for us (that's when Harold Johnson still owned the company).
  14. You might look at the Lazy Daze (LD) Class C which has no slides. The Mid-Bath (MB) at 26.5' or 27' (depends on the year) might meet your needs. LD does make a 30', but its payload is low, particularly for fulltiming. I don't remember if you said where in the country you are, but there are regional LD get-togethers around the country where you can see the different floorplans. (Lazy Daze is a factory-direct manufacturer based in Montclair, CA They are not, however, a custom manufacturer, having a limited amount of options, but the base models are well equipped.) 15. That's what we do with our portable solar panel (we have one 160-watt solar panel on the roof). The portable solar panel came with a cable that's attached directly to the battery to which we then attach the portable panel.
  16. Maybe there's something for PT's similar to the visiting nurse program? Worth checking into, anyway.
  17. We have always used their information as a basis for *starting* our search for a new rig. However, we haven't been a member since we bought our current Class C (for which we used their ratings) which was almost 6 years ago, so I don't have any current information about them. If we were ever to buy a new rig (unlikely at this point in our lives), I'd most likely use the ratings again.
  18. In any case, she hasn't been back since she posted her original question.
  19. There are PPO Medicare Advantage plans that you can use in areas other than your home area. But not all PPO Medicare Advantage plans have in-network providers in all states. For example, in my calling several companies, I've found that Asuris' PPO Medicare Advantage plan doesn't have in-network providers in Arizona, although they do in Nevada. Humana, on the other hand, has in-network providers in all states. Not "all" Advantage Plans offer Part D -- something you have to look at VERY carefully! (For example, Humana has two PPO Medicare Advantage Plans -- one includes Part D, the other one doesn't.) AND -- if you sign up for a Medicare Advantage Plan that doesn't include Part D, you cannot purchase a separate Part D like you can with a Supplement Plan. Just another "gotcha" one has to be aware of when shopping for Medicare plans.
  20. Not exactly. From everything I've been reading, the only people who will not be eligible for Plan F are those who turn 65 in 2020. Anyone else already on Medicare can sign up for Plan F even if they're not currently on it.
  21. I haven't been using eHealth, or any broker. I've been getting my information directly from the medicare.gov website.
  22. True, but for us it's a non-issue. We're in Henderson at least once a year, and most years twice, so we just keep the card from year to year and keep adding money to it. Any money left on the card will be used the next time we're there.
  23. Thanks for that information. DH hasn't had any problems with his AARP supplement, but it's good to hear from someone on the other side of the issue. I called my doctor's office earlier this week to get an idea of which companies offering supplements were easier to work with (paid on time, etc.), but they refused to give me that information. Do you have any information about the other 3 companies I mentioned above? I'm considering going with the Humana policy since it's the least expensive of the four.
  24. I don't know about any rules for going from an advantage plan to a supplement. DH made the switch last year and had no problems with the switch. Maybe there were questions on the application form that had to do with switching rules (?) but he didn't have to do anything over and above completing the application form.
