  1. Glad to hear you made it safe, and the new knees are treating you well. Have fun in the sun, Dave.
  2. Hi, I was researching local places and received back a word doc with a short list of campgrounds that have a monthly rate available. (some are just nightly) How should I share this on this site?
  3. I will begin by saying I take advice from some folks above, I don’t give it. I have much less experience. I shopped online for a used diesel PU to replace my rusty GMC half ton “pumpkin eater”. They were very hard to find, and almost always well over $50k plus high mileage for a PU. The MDT haulers were even higher than the pickups and much harder to find. There are lots and lots of used HDTs out there and I saw a few late models under $40k. My point is that availability plays into this comparison as well. The prices seem much more competitive in the used HDT market.

Scrap, Is it not with a charger? Or at the price should I not even question it?

    Rear end questions

Exile, thanks for asking the question. I think about this topic from a mileage standpoint. I’m commenting to follow but won’t be much help.
  6. Merry Christmas to all of you good folks!! Thank you Carl! 70 and sunny today in NC. 🙂
  7. Thank you very much Bill w/bus. Now I will have to look up your conversion, I’m curious. Have you been to all 50 and most of Canada in your conversion? Do you have a website?
  8. Hi Darryl, Thank You very much. It seems like we always have other repairs to do an never got around to this one.
  9. Hi all, thanks in advance for any feedback. I have a diesel sleeper heater in our Volvo. It smokes but does not heat past the startup attempt. I get a flashing LED that indicates “low voltage”. I found what appears to be a good reference to disassemble and clean a Webasto brand heater here: https://www.instructables.com/id/Servicing-a-Webasto-AirTop-2000-D/ Has anyone had a similar experience and fixed it themselves? Any advice for parts beyond Amazon? (The link has some references to part numbers for anyone who might need them) Kevin.
  10. Happy and prayerful Thanksgiving to all!! From I-24 Campground near Nashville!!
  11. You said it backed out a bit then just spun right? It wasn’t enough to allow a crowbar underneath but it’s loose. Only one bolt holding it down? If so grab the top of the seat or base farthest away, for leverage, bend the whole assembly until you can get a saw or cutting wheel on the bolt. Or cut and bend that flange flat for access. Looks like you might be painting it anyway so a few repairs should not matter. Just my 2cents. maybe cut a slot down the flange (lip) and across the base right through the head of the bolt. Then when you pry as above the base metal will split open.
  12. For Michigan travelers, I believe Clydes has a very good reputation and several locations. I have been to http://johnrspringandtire.net for a pickup truck repair once and liked the service and prices.
  13. I added a bit and saved again. Try a home made fix for the comfort part. I can’t help about the height tho.
  14. Hi Dave, don’t just buy the first thing you find, that would be a ... knee-jerk reaction. Nyuknyuk. I signed up for the MATS show in the spring. Rumor has it there are many seat displays. In the mean time I am going to un-lace the seat and insert a store bought gel cushion. I decided I don’t need more functionality than i already have. The seat “bun” is the worst part. So really I just have that complaint.
  15. We are in Asheville NC for one night. https://www.campfirelodgings.com/ Big rigs beware, the turns are very tight and the lanes are narrow. The view is worth it.
  16. Thanks Argo, great idea! I found a sleeper locally also. I have not gone to look yet. Did you move exhaust or fuel tanks to make it work?
  17. Hi all, I have been thinking a lot (!) about tool storage lately. I ran across an ad from a local man who has some interesting parts that would work for a drom box. i went to his place to look and measure. This morning I took a few measurements on the back of our truck and I think his used components will be too big for the space we have left on our frame. With all the brain cells wasted thinking about this Maybe I’m just obsessed, because we are in the process of downsizing and I want to keep most of my small tools. So I’m putting this on the HDT site for a person with a truck these items will fit. It is advertised on FB btw. It used to be a bed on a big electric company truck and it has a 7’ square by 6’ tall steel shed with some wired lights inside and out. also had 2 very large aluminum oil tanks probably with baffles. i like them both but think they could be a significant amount of work to make them fit or add doors to one of the tanks. Plus I wonder if the oil tanks held some really nasty stuff or just plain oil. Location is in NC. Pics from the owner are for those who don’t use FB. Not shown is the door on the back or interior. The door is not built for security. The interior is very clean. Click For Full-Size Image. Click For Full-Size Image.

    pin box options help

For anyone interested we have one from our 5er also. Removed last week. Located NC.
  19. I think you’re onto something there Dave. See seminar list below How to buy good used parts How to install upgrades yourself Delegating that pesky PT Hazards of welding your own frame Care and feeding of your very own bedpan macerator
  20. Also the Bruss’s website is very informative. http://www.dmbruss.com/index.html
  21. When everyone is eating your gourmet offering at the seminar, try and have some truck stop beef jerky in your pocket for you. Unless your cooking is better than mine, then don’t worry about it.
  22. I added a direct battery wire and a 30 amp automatic fuse to the brake controller tabs. Until I did that, my brakes were not working.
  23. Thanks David. I have not been to the MATS that sounds like a good one to try. Dallas in August sounds rough but we have never been to Texas so it would be good from that standpoint. I found a show in Atlanta this month but the description says it’s aimed at fleet buyers. Probably nothing of interest for us there.
  24. Hi all, and thanks to Steve, I am thinking about new seats and some other new hardware for our gen 2 VNL. I hope to revive this discussion for a short time. The only place near us with seats on display is the Kenly 95 truck stop. They have some but no Knoedler. Is there a place to order seats from that commonly has the best prices? Is it possible to find a sale at certain times of the year? Should I just plan to be at the next truck show wherever it is and buy from a salesperson?
  25. I hope this helps: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3Xnp1myA-c Thread you might be looking for? Hi Chief, I know Davena will be happy to send you printed instructions, I dont happen to have them right now.
