  1. Yes, we are past what is considered a tipping point, however, if infrastructure does not catch up we will soon meet a wall. And this last winter has highlighted a glaring weakness in EVs that will need to be overcome as well. As for the Cybertruck, I had rather hoped Tesla would take it to an early grave given other trucks coming on the market. You will never change my mind but I think it is perhaps the ugliest vehicle ever designed.
  2. That makes sense as that is pretty much what it is. And if you are not connected to a 5G tower with adequate bandwidth it will be slower.
  3. I'm curious Kirk, what has Elon Musk ever done to you that prompts you to search out anything and everything you can find that casts him in a negative light? Or at least need to post it here?
  4. Just curious, how did it not work well with ADT?
  5. I have looked at these and like that they can be taken on airplanes, but I have always decided that they were a no go for me. I don't know how well they might operate on the rougher roads in some RV parks and I think I would be hesitant to ride very far on one. That's just me. I did put my self on the early notification list for the Lectric Trike though. I like the idea of full size bike tires, the range and the fact that it is foldable (albeit not as small as the Travel Scoot). I am not too concerned about being able to shop with it as most of the stores I shop at have the electric carts should I need one on any given day.
  6. It's going to be interesting to watch Tesla. Dropping prices to boost sales as the stock prices have suffered in that last year. Car sales and stock prices are not necessarily a reflection of each other, I understand. Tesla has also started losing market share as other manufacturers introduce competition. S&P Mobility forecasts a drop to 20% by 2025 compared to 71% in 2021. The Austin American-Statesman had an article on the January 10th that Tesla was going to spend $700 million to expand the giga factory here by another 1.4 million square feet. The purpose of the addition is not yet known for sure but it is likely to expand production and testing. I would link the article but it is behind their paywall so not useful to others.
  7. The "Guinness Book of Records" started out to become a resource to settle pub arguments. The man that started it was the Managing Director of Guinness at the time and the thus the name. It's business model is now mostly geared to create "new" records of whatever, and there are some pretty off the wall things in it. Since no one has ever been as rich as Musk it would seem pretty inevitable that he would eventually lose more than someone else. I do wonder though what it is about the human nature that we seem to gloat over others misfortunes?
  8. Thank you, that seems pretty reasonable then compared to the numbers I see with the tool I use.
  9. What I would like to know is over what period of time those number come from, i.e., a week? a month? cumulative for as long as you have been using it?
  10. I have not tried it, and doubt that I will for a couple of reasons. First, 498K reviews and it only gets 3.4. Second, if it's not broken why fix it? Google Maps works well and if the features are not enough (i.e., showing where traffic is slowed or at a standstill, showing where traffic lights/stop signs are, or showing speed limits) then you can tap into Waze, which is also owned by Google.
  11. That looks to be very interesting technology but still has the problem of sourcing. 41% of our silicone comes from two countries, one generally friendly and the other not very much so. If we want to become more independent then I believe we should throw our efforts at perfecting sodium-ion batteries. While we currently import salt, it is more convenience than lack of resources as there are deposits in over half the states, some of them huge. Perhaps we will see both come into use but we need to move away from lithium for sure.
  12. If folks want to get the tax credits for an EV recycling may be the solution if the recycled materials are considered to be US sourced.
  13. A retired LEO friend of mine said they would give the 5mph grace only because they had to be really confident in when the radar was last calibrated as the local judge often dismissed them for that reason.
  14. For me calls are easy, I use an app that has a HUGE database of phone numbers associated with scammers and those calls are sent to never-never land automatically. Any other calls I get I trash if I don't recognize the number and they can't leave me a voice mail. For emails, Gmail does a pretty good job of filtering but they are not infallible. For example, just this morning I got an email thanking me for my PayPal purchase. Needless to say it was a phishing message. What it did do, although no purchase had actually gone through, was prompt me to turn on 2-step authentication for all PP logins or uses, change my password and challenge questions. I really to understand why the over 65 crowd is being targeted as they are less likely to be tech literate than younger folk.
  15. Thanks for the article! I found out the VPN I use (Cyber Ghost) is capable of split tunneling. Now I can finally get to a website I use without killing the VPN all the time. SMH!
  16. For the amount of money they want for those I could buy a REALLY nice diesel pusher Class A and have far more room and luxuries.
  17. Those colors it talks about? I have never once seen that on any of my computers. Perhaps because I do close and re-open Chrome regularly? However, what it says happens just doesn't work for me at least. My hack, which is explained in several sources, does work. I have no answer as to why Chrome is not behaving as claimed, and perhaps it does for others, but I have yet to see it.
  18. The thing that annoys me about Chrome updates is that it will not do so automatically unless your computer is on a domain and you use a group policy to set the auto updates. That seems pretty clunky to me. There is a work around though, you set your opening tab to the URL for "Help > About Google Chrome". Anytime you check that Chrome will automatically update so you are causing an update every time you open Chrome. Like I said, clunky.
  19. And the college professor borrowed it as well since it was originally said much, much earlier. "Ask not what your country can do for you, but rather what you can do for your country." ~ Marcus Tullius Cicero, 63 B.C.
  20. I think I must be thinking in more broad terms. From Webster's Dictionary: That seems to check all the boxes for this forum in my opinion.
  21. But this is a form of social media is it not? 😉
  22. I have heard that it is easy enough to get it back on the road, much easier in Texas than it was in Colorado. There they made you pay all the back taxes too. This is exactly my thinking. In Kirk's example maybe the zoning was different so they did not care about current tags, I just know in our home base park it is a requirement.
  23. We stayed there once and while did think it overpriced for what you got it was a convenient stopping point for our trip. The park was pretty empty in the part that I presumed was for short term stays so we got a pull through space near the exit and were able to leave quickly in the morning. I only recall this place vividly because the man in the office was so incredibly rude. I don't recall if we even asked for a discount beyond the one we were given for cash.
  24. Yes this! That is a requirement of the park we are in and there are some trailers that have been in here for years. The only time they get moved is when they get towed to an inspection facility and back again. I asked about this and it is a zoning thing the difference between being zoned as an RV park of mobile home park which I guess an RV becomes if unlicensed and unmovable.
  25. Truthfully I do not understand what the skill of backing a trailer has to do with leveling. Blocks (Lego type, wood, etc.) or the Anderson levelers can used driving forward on to them or backing on to them. I would get into whatever space, decide which side needed lifting and by how much and then set up the blocks or leveler and much the trailer the few inches needed and then finally leveling front to back. If your trailer does not have an electric tongue jack, get one, they are a labor saver. Once leveled drop those scissor jacks, using blocks if needed, and you are done. Those scissor jacks can do what they do for weeks if needed. The very smallest are rated for 3000 lbs. each, however, the more common 24" extension jacks are generally rated at 7500 pounds or more. You are correct that they are not designed as lifting jacks, they are more than adequate to support the trailer once leveled.
