    Yosemite

it is now may 20 2021, a dry year, but forecast for "some" snow this weekend. the pass's are all closed. might not be over crowded right now, but in a month it will be just like downtown in any city. to get around in Yosemite use a small car or motorcycle. and bring lots of money as everything sold there is way over priced. including entry.
  3. one thing of note, stay away when the burning man madness is there. nobody in any of the town, city's like them. even the do it your self car washes refuse to let them wash off.

    Truck stops

even those of us that are paranoid, are sometimes watched.

    Truck stops

i have not seen any truck stops that turn away any rv, but please let the pros use the truck parking areas as they are required by LAW to stop, you are not. please use the rv areas, and yes some bobtail drivers do park in the rv section, only because there area is full. but some are jerks. i am just a local driver, and just trying to find any place to stop for my required by law lunch can be a problem and not at truck stops. but rest stops, side of some roads (city's have banned trucks for stopping for any reason). and my company has told us to not stop at truck stops, freeway on/off ramps, but to park on a quiet (as in little to no traffic) side street some place. and yes we are gps tracked. as well as in cab video and sound watched.
  6. i have spent many trips north and east of gerlach, love the place great place to watch the night sky. turn off all lights sit outside and watch the show. NO services of any kind. can get gas in gerlach, very small store in nixon, i believe there is a restaurant in gerlach. been some years since the last time i was up there. bring three time as much water as you think you will need. very dry, and watch out for soft spots on the "dry" lake bed, dry on top but wet under. as no tow service to help you. bring everything you might want as there is nowhere to get anything. water, fuel, food, water, spare car, water. satellite phone. never drink the spring water up there as is very bad for the body. great place to be all alone, but not always best to be alone there. (aka: another car, truck, etc). and if you drive south to get back to a city watch out for the tribal land areas as the police will site you, steep down grade and cop at the bottom in a 25 mph zone.
  7. i will try to remember that one (keep the yellow line on the drivers side) i had sorta hosted some auseys ( is that a correct wording?) here a number of years back. and was asked a question that answer would have been perfect.
  8. i only put in south dakota due to there lower taxes. at last i knew of it was only 4%sales tax, and reg and insurance are way cheaper than most of the USA. and that you only need one over night to qualify. but yes it is cold there most of the year. and of the half of the worlds population you listed, they do not even drive at all. and/or there country just has little to no laws about driving. at least thats what every video i have seen shows. i would hate to drive a $80,K pu, pulling a $100,K fifthwheel there.
  9. nice camp fire, a couple lanterns, just enough to light up our area. and everybody has a flashlight (kept off till needed). but also plenty of quiet dark time to watch the night sky. need a bright place we go inside. never a stereo on, and this is how we boon-dock. we try to not be a pain to others. and expect the same from others.
  10. i also use them and already have plenty, just last month i started trying to get my moms paper work in some kind of order. so i used the hanging style, (one of those lock boxes sold at wally wourld) already used up a box of them just for her bills, medical, etc. and now this month a couple new Dr's and hospital's to deal with.
  11. it would be very bad if this code enforcer worked in ca, as ALL pickups are registered as commercial trucks. except if you know the law and do a rv, or show truck thing on the title. not always easy to get and if you did not obey the rules 1000% you get hit big time back tax, and penalty's. the only thing that changes on the pu is the plates, as they get a non commercial plate. commercial has to pay a weight tax, so no level of government wants to allow it as it cuts there tax income. good luck getting your rights on this.
  12. as a commercial driver here in ca, on the job and off i see many driving on the wrong side of the rd. even at speed on the freeway. and sad some come to a very abrupt stop. cars do not fair well when meeting a semi in this way. just last week on the only passing lane going westbound on hwy 12 from san andreas down to valley springs. a person wanted to go much faster than everybody else, so they got into the east bound lane to pass everyone. there was a slow truck in the rt lane and a number of cars passing in the lt lane. all good no problems. then this fool crossed into the east bound lane at high speed. just had to get there faster. i see so many that just can not keep in the correct lane to begin with, many headons, and sideswipes in this area. and this is just on my personal time. have even seen a number of people driving the wrong way on hwy 99.
  13. i say do the escapees but go to south dakota to buy and set up your domicile, tax thing. pulse you only have to prove a one night in state to get everything needed. but where ever you do this once done you will not have to return for your two-three year stay. just watch out for the crazy American drivers, some think the whole rd is there's. but have fun and enjoy your time here.
  14. with (need a min of 6 100 watt panels up on the roof) or without solar, or AC hook up. best to charge up your batteries from a generator when the sun is above the skyline. campground noise thing. and of course have plenty of battery storage, (min of 3000amps). less if in a car or small van.
  15. so you do not have to pay for having phone/web service. the mega corps just let you have it for nothing? sure the more you call, the less per call, but you still have this nagging bill to pay each month. sure i pay for web access, but for me at a huge expense. $49.99 a month. comcast is costly. i am only on a couple days a week, rest of the time it is of no use to me and i still get to pay for none use days. and i know nobody i can call outside of the USA. farthest calling for me is portland or. i am south east of sacramento ca. and that is maybe once in a year or two. if i need to call a company i use there 800 number. even for work, and that's local.
  16. sorry i could not find the video. but this young guy puts out a bunch of videos on lipo batteries. including taking them apart. in such you can see the build quality... or lack there of. from what i have seen. and read. on more than his videos. i am hoping battle born pricing can come down a bit. as there build quality, and as the only co offering a 10 year warranty. along with the best customer service in this field. renolagy does come in a close second, but the way they are built says no, till they change it a bit. as there price point is good. but not as good of a warranty. home built sounds great if you are into it. but no service or warranty.
  17. i never said humans are any good. as a commercial truck driver for 40 years. i can say that many people that think they know how to drive are just fools just to me no computer made can replace a competent human driver. as a computer can only do what it has been programed to do. nothing more. humans can do more.
  18. no title.. sounds fishy. on her part? on the sellers? most likely there, and could be called a scam. no matter no plates Not allowed on any public street, road, etc. no title, seller could say rv was stolen, or they had sold her a stolen rv. be nice if the poster would return.
  19. i would love to swap out my lead anchors for battleborn, but the co$t. as at one grand each (got to add in the tax), and would need a min of three, and then a new controller and inverter. it add$ up. and seeing as i would like to also add in some solar (min 600Wh) there is another couple grand. but i understand battleborn can only do 12volt dc? and i would like my solar to pump 24volt dc down, from what i have read it makes better sense to do 24 V over 12 V there. maybe next decade. the solid state batteries will work? co$t?
  20. right...sure. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/18/business/tesla-fatal-crash-texas.html https://www.nytimes.com/2021/03/23/business/teslas-autopilot-safety-investigations.html https://apnews.com/article/ca5e62255bb87bf1b151f9bf075aaadf and more tesla does its best to hide the facts of how much fail there is, heck even the lane drift in the trucks at work go off in corners.
  21. as to shutting off the motor, there is more to it than trying to save at most a tea spoon of fuel at that very long red light. as in driver / passenger safety. in extreme heat or clod, not very good to keep turning off the motor, and then the motor is harmed by this, as while running the motor gets full oil supply, turn it on / off all the time things move with out correct lub in critical areas. the most dangers thing one can do to a motor (under normal conditions) is to start it. then how long till the electric starter motor fails? true one can get decades out of one.. under normal conditions. but having to restart 20 times a day will burn them out. ( a starter fail can be the contacts, armature, drive gear, ring gears on the flywheel, etc). nothing can replace the human brain, in a competent driver, far to many things to program into a computer, usually by someone who might not even drive to work. or drives under 1000 miles a month.
  22. i have never understood a ladder than collapses for storage. as how can it be safe for a 200+ pound man to be working on. as just trying to get up it, the 200 pounds becomes a LOT more pushing the body up, or "wiggling" around doing something. one would think the hold outs would fail and the ladder would collapse while you are on it. and a couple i have seen move around as in Not stable in the build. like a fixed ladder is. weight can even be heaver due to more material in the tubing.
  23. i can not say for the computer thingy, but if you have loss of traction. just take your foot off the skinny pedal. so the spinning tire has a chance to get a grip. as for a dash light, just remove the bulb. i had a ghost in a computer some years back, cost me $5,grand to have the dealer fix it. then six months latter a fool hit me head on and totaled the truck. wish i had just lived with the ghost.
  24. another poster here stated it would only work for 650 homes, and yes i do not know what the term "MWe" is as i do not deal in such numbers.
  25. i read something in a thing about space travel. and it takes more (fuel, thrust, etc) to slow down a rocket to "fall" into the sun, than to change orbit to mars.
