  1. No, I have to go check again, but I know I didn't take out any screws. I had the window switches out and reversed them recently, but haven't had the mirror switches out lately. Trying to go on memory here, but it ain't what it used to be. I'm surprised nobody else has offered a suggestion ( besides Lawrence). We can't be the only ones who've ever had this issue.
  2. I've swapped out 16's for 17.5's twice. Obviously, I believe in them, and the safety cushion they bring. While it's a pretty big investment, it's better than spending equally large sums on a TPMS and still have the problem. My philosophy, right or wrong, is to buy "overkill" tires and skip the monitor.
  3. I'll try to remember to look again tomorrow. But I have an '01, might be different. I'm talking door switches though. On ours, the switch plate pops out of the door, and it contains the window and mirror switches. It's a little difficult to get it started, but it does lift out to where you can access the individual switches.
  4. I've terminated a LOT of groundhogs, using anything from a .222 to my work boots. Several with a hammer or 12" adjustable. But mostly with a common ol' .22. If the den is away from buildings, pour some water down a hole, then follow it with a couple quarts of gasoline. Go to the other hole and throw in something like lit corn cobs soaked in diesel fuel. The burning material will pull the fumes through and then "WOOF". Shovel the holes shut..... BUT, it's still spring. You may get lucky and have a den full of pups. They're pretty good if prepared properly. 😉
  5. Through the wheel, yes. Over the top, no.
  6. I popped mine out yesterday, and I have individual switches. I've determined I have a broken wire in the snakes nest of wires in the door. Until the problem gets worse, it will be tough to isolate. Good luck..........
  7. And now, I'm gonna throw a wrinkle into the thought process................ What if, you had all four wheels strapped through the wheels as shown above, and something damaged or removed both straps on one side? Even if just one strap loosened, the car can turn on the bed. With over the top straps, it's nuisance. Through the wheel it's a disaster waiting to happen. I like having each strap holding in two directions.
  8. We started out with "through wheel" and have switched to the over-the-wheel with tread blocks. We like the "over" type better. YMMV.
  9. I'd check it anyway. I've had too many bad "new" elictrical parts. We're now waiting on a replacement for the controller on our new Bigfoot system. First one didn't work, right out of the box. And Bigfoot has apparently had a run on them, as they have none in stock, until sometime Monday.

    Tinker Week?

Don't have one planned for next year, yet. C'mon up, we'll leave the light on.

    Tinker Week?

We're gonna have a good time, even if we don't fix much. We can handle oil changes, etc. too. Bring your supplies, I have drain pans and a used oil tank.

    DRV accident

If only we knew a person who was an expert in accident reconstruction, near Houston.😉

Thanks Darryl. At least I'm in good company.

    Forum issues

The past few days, I can't go directly to the HDT section of the forum, and cannot access the HDT topic list. I have to go to the main listing and click on whatever the latest post may be under the HDT tab. Re-booting this POC chromebook hasn't helped. Any suggestions?
  16. Pop the switches out or just swap the plug over to the other switch and see if it works. Super easy to do, and it will tell you if the switch is good. I took my switches out a while back when one was going flakey. It worked intermittently. Apparently, the jostling about knocked some debris out, as it's been fine ever since.
  17. Yup, we've found that rally go-ers tend to be friendly folks, and we tend to stay in contact with them. And it's not just the HDT group. We are involved with a motorcycle club, and it's the same with them. Plus, at our age, everyone's an old friend, some just older than others.😜
  18. Reservations have been made..........😁
  19. Park while it's still light? 🤔 The real issue is seeing what's off to the side of the trailer, where back-up lights do little. I don't see as well in the dark as I used to. I guess I need to eat more carrots.
  20. Darryl, your link just puts me right back here...... Exile, I believe it was RandyA who used the window wells.
  21. Bacon grease comes to mind......
  22. Our passenger mirror has done the same thing. First time (5+ years ago), I manuevered the mirror by hand and shot my favorite flavor of pentrating oil on the actuator screws and freed them. Recently, the wiring in the door has gone flakey. I can usually get it to work by banging on the door.🙄 Swapping switches didn't change which door was affected. I most likely have a broken wire in the door harness. Of course, you only think about fixing such things when you're trying to back into a tight spot, in the dark, in the rain.......

    DRV accident

There was a bit of discussion around the campfire Sunday evening, at the ECR after party. Looking at the pictures, it appeared that perhaps some of the laws of physics had been "stretched", causing an evasive manuever to go bad. The jaw failure was pretty far downstream in the chain of events. Likely a "result" instead of a "cause". That said, I wasn't in the pilots' seat.
