    DRV accident

There was a bit of discussion around the campfire Sunday evening, at the ECR after party. Looking at the pictures, it appeared that perhaps some of the laws of physics had been "stretched", causing an evasive manuever to go bad. The jaw failure was pretty far downstream in the chain of events. Likely a "result" instead of a "cause". That said, I wasn't in the pilots' seat.
  2. Don't thank me, thank Randy Agee and his merry band of helpers. It was a fun simple project, and a pleasure meeting you and your family.
  3. We're leaving Deer Run this morning. This past week has been wonderful, meeting up with old friends, and making new ones. Things have gotten pretty quiet here, so there's been time to do some tinkering and visiting. We've made our reservations for next year.......
  4. You're in my back yard, and we're still at ECR. Be back in a week or two.
  5. And even the folks who are here like to look at the pics. Some of us olde phartes don't do Facebook. The weather here has been perfect. Carl has even arranged for a little shower to settle the dust.
  6. Got your tester built. I'll be going through Nashville Monday.
  7. Good to meet you Chris. Keep the shiney side up.
  8. Big thanks to Donna, Carl, and their merry band of helpers. They've been busy.
  9. Yup, when one fails, replace all of those in that run or compartment. It's so much easier. We don't have hydraulic slides, ours are mechanical, but I've replaced more than my share of lines, and have the scars to prove it. I have the cell number othe local hydraulics guy, and he answers on weekends......
  10. I put my diesel tank in a cement block building with a camoflauged access door. No electricity to that building either. Minor inconvenience to run an extension cord when I needed fuel. As to the comment about fairings around the tank, a thief could easily drill a 3/4" hole next to the fill port and drop in a suction line. A sticker next to the fill port saying "SMILE" might do more than a locking cap......😁
  11. I already have two plugs, so I gotcha covered. I'll meet up with ya somewhere....... After ECR, we'rte going to Parkers Crossroads RV between Nashville and Memphis. We'll be there nearly a week, and exploring the Natchez Trace. Will you be on our path? After that, we'll head home (west side Cincinnati) for a while.
  12. Cordless drill = new hole. Locks just keep the honest people out.
  13. I knew a guy who had a fleet of trucks. Was having issues with fuel theft. Thieves were cutting air lines to use for siphon hoses. He bought a bunch of cheap garden hoses, cut them into 5-6 foot pieces, and draped a piece over each truck tank. Losses stopped. Thieves must have figured he was watching........
  14. The problem with old school engines is that they're in an old school truck, meaning creature comforts are not what they could be. Compromises........ For a weekend unit, I'd be all over the old school, but for extended travel, little things like delay wipers, heated seats, quiet cab, all add up.

    Tinker Week?

Okay folks, I just pencilled in June 6-10th for this non-event. Two campgrounds within reasonable distance, Indian Springs http://indianspringscampground.com/ is only a couple miles away and can handle our rigs. Or Little Farm on the River http://www.littlefarmresort.com/ is adout 1/2 hour away, but has many more big sites. Many of you have stayed there. For reference, my shop is Pope Farms of Ohio, 10271 Suspension Bridge Rd., Harrison, OH. It's on Google Maps.
  16. I have a sister in law who bought one a few years ago. All we heard was how they could go anywhere, park anywhere, good fuel economy, blah, blah........ She mentioned going to the shower house every day. I asked why her coach didn't have a shower, to which she replyed, "it does, but that's where we have the coolers." I asked, don't you a refrigerator? She said yes, but it's very small. They now have a much bigger class a and tow a car. Life is a series of compromises. One size does not fit all.
  17. Been a lot of places with ours. Bed works great for looking over the crowds in Yellowstone, or anywhere else. Doesn't work well for drive throughs, but we don't eat fast food. A buddy calls it our SUV with cathedral ceiling. No matter how you slice it , life is full of compromises. A big truck does give up some conveniences, but that's trivial for the added safety.
  18. Careful Dave. You have an image to uphold........😜
  19. Yes, when I changed all my coolant lines last year, I did the flush, and then took it to the local dealer for the final flush/fill. Mainly because I didn't have the high dollar Mack/Volvo drain.
  20. Glad you made it. And never stop embarrassing your kids.😉

    Tinker Week?

Now that we have that "squirrel" safely out of the way, back to the original thread................. For the "Tinker Session", I neglected to mention that I will have a shoot'n range at the shop, suitable for handguns. Just regular pistols, not some fancy thing with a scope and a 9" barrel. That's a couple miles away, and can handle long guns as well. Of course, bb guns are the most fun, and the targets last longer.
  22. Just be aware that while you may be a hobby racer in the eyes of the IRS, DOT runs by a different set of rules. If your car or trailer is owned by a business, or you have sponsors, or win prizes, you're commercial. When we first bought our rig, my business owned the truck/motorhome. My accountant said sure, lots of companies own a motorhome for their executives. But, then it's registered under the company name, making ti commercial in the eyes of DOT. I bought it from the company, at a loss of course. Good luck. And welcome.👍
