  1. Robert, don't give up. And remember, getting old was fun. It's being old that sucks.
  2. Gen II Volvos have easy battery access, even with fairings, no tools required. Our gen l requires removing 4 bolts. Not a bad job.
  3. I could have gone all day without being reminded, I'm a senior...... There's a member here who had issues with the landing gear on his rv. In the end, the grounding cable from battery to chassis was undersized for the load. I believe Randy figured that one out. And he's even more senior than I.
  4. There have been class C motor homes configured as toy haulers, but not many. I would think living space would be pretty compromised. Also, you'd have petro fumes in the living space. But as Linda asked, what's the difference between a MH and a truck? Or do you not want to pull a trailer? A class c with a small trailer for the GW might be a good option.
  5. I would think that by now, that tranny would know which gear comes next, and with a gentle nudge, almost shift itself. Don't mind the tachometer, shift by ear and feel. All of a sudden, you'll find yourself not even thinking about it. BTW, nice looking truck.
  6. If the green truck were white, red, gray, or black, I'd be headed for Georgia. But alas........ DW says we're not adding another color to the mix. It really appears to be a nice truck.
  7. I still have the sun visor, which had the "line setting ticket" for the '59 B-180. Right arm rest was optional, right sun visor was too. Yes, it was a beast, with a BD-308, 5 speed and a 2 spd. axle. The good old days is now.
  8. Back when Spot was a pup, we had several IH trucks on the farm. They all had one thing in common, poor starter performance. IH had used a very short braided ground strap from the battery to the firewall as the only ground on the vehicle. We added a couple big gauge ground wires to the block, frame, etc., and everything from radio to headlights worked better.
  9. x2. We're looking at the white stuff from a cabin about 2 hours north of COtrecker.
  10. I would agree, though I'm no 'lectric whiz.
  11. That's a common fix on motorcycles too. Just be aware, the increased voltage that yields more light, kills incandescent bulbs too. They can't handle a full 12v (or more) for nearly as long. But, who uses incandescent bulbs?
  12. There's more than one kind of "bacteria". What we have in our gut would seem to be a good start to break down the lumpy stuff. OTOH, we frequent a family party lake, where the care taker once decided to get rid of the smell in the outhouse. Every day, he poured some liquid bleach down the hole. The smell got a LOT worse. Just say'n....... Oh, we subscribe to the DHMO/agua/H2O method and it works just fine with no undue odor.
  13. Well, part of me is sad, but another part is happy for them. I had a chat with Kim about retirement, and how to exit a business, as we were leaving last spring. I hope it all works out for her, as she's certainly earned it.
  14. Insurance companies are in the business to make money. Most folks never file a claim, company wins. Some folks do have claims, company loses. And then there are those in between, where the company only makes a little. So, do you feel lucky? I'd shop around and then decide whether you want to accept the risk. Our premium for a 41' toyhauler runs about $850/yr. It's worth around $40k-ish. Your premium seems high.
  15. One evening on the way home from Alaska, I told my wife, "I'd give $1,000 for good lights right now." David must have heard me, as later he had the kits on sale. It hurt a bit to write the check, but I smile every time I turn them on.

Okay Scrap, since you've stopped bye, what's your preference, silicone based, Vaseline, white lithium, or other?
  17. Before we got the hdt, I pulled a 40' cargo trailer w/ living quarters with a truck like yours. Maneuverability is about the same with the Volvo as with the p/u. It would be interesting to hook up with my day cab Mack and try it, as it's about half the length of the Volvo.

Welllll, since we've started drifting off course, I'll ask what kind of grease is often put in connections from the factory? Specifically, I've seen components such as ignition modules or ECMs with a gob of grease already in place when I take them out of the box. I always thought is was white lithium, but perhaps that's incorrect? Some old timers recommend smearing connections with Vaseline.
  19. Back to basics...... Do as John said above, and check ALL your grounds.
  20. Short answer is "YES". Some have pulled with a commercial hitch, or fixed rv type hitch, (me included), but the benefits of the air hitch are well documented. Items in the trailer stay put, cabinets stay organized, and trim doesn't fall off. So, what's in the trailer?
  21. Oh, I'd say there are a LOT of reasons we're olde phartes. But, I'm in good company.👍 Getting old was fun. It's being old that sucks.
  22. Are you sure the slide is staying square with the unit? It might be binding if one end gets a little ahead.
  23. Length is just one compromise. RVing is a series of them. If you're comfortable with long vehicles, being a little over 65' isn't much to worry about, until you get caught. We're 70' and I don't think about it. Our camper is 43' hitch to tail, and we carry a smart.
  24. Dave, another option is the Escapee Park in Congress, not far east of where you are. The SxS group there rides out nearly every day to explore somewhere. If I remember correctly, for members it was about $15/night with full hook-ups. Good motorcycling there too if you have a scooter with you.
