  1. It would seem the occupants of said van are likely relatively young, to tolerate such a small space. Makes me wonder why they would need supplemental heat.😮 Seriously, an electric blanket might be a good solution. If the van is well insulated as stated above, it could be enough.

    Rear end questions

What size tires do you have?

Advise is worth what you paid. Bring it on over and I'll watch. Have you checked truck salvage yards for a set of diff's with the ratio you want? Might be a lot simpler.
  4. Yep, have an assortment of wood blocks handy. We keep some in the front compartment. A few pieces each of one inch and two inch should do nicely. It's also nice to have a couple pieces of 4x4 of 6x6.
  5. Do you have anchor points on the walls? If so, use something soft between the wall and the bikes and just strap them there vertically. That's how we secure things like step ladder, pawn chairs, etc.
  6. I'm serious about foam filling. Just do it. Your local tire shop can recommend where to get it done.
  7. Small tires suck. I fought that for hours one day putting tubes in my pressure washer, same size as you mention. I'd much rather change truck tires, or 6' tall tractor tires. I put a bar or pipe vertically in a vise and dropped the rim over it so I could work standing up. Then clamp a small vice grip pliers to the edge of the rim so the tire doesn't just keep "running away", and work the tire irons (screw drivers) around. If you can find tire irons for motorcycles, you're much less likely to put a hole in a tube. Been there........ When all this fails and the tires still leak, get them foam filled. Expensive and worth every penny. Good luck.
  8. And we all know where that line of logic leads.🤣 Seriously, no one class of truck, or fuel type for that matter, will be best for all. I'm glad we have choices. I have a F-150 for my work/ play truck. It has the Eco-Boost, and it fits my needs perfectly. But it also cost over double what I paid for the HDT, which only gets around 5k mi/per year. Compromises.......
  9. Count me in. I saw Charlies last year and thought it pretty slick.

    Which hitch

Well Dan, it seems you're not skimping on the truck or trailer, so my vote would be step up and get the ET. Not that the others are bad, just that the ET's a step, or two, ahead. I've seen a lot of Binkleys with wear issues. When ours gets shaky, I'll get an ET Jr.
  11. Some folks don't seem to accept diversity well. I enjoy learning about RVing paths other than what we've chosen. I admire folks who can stay for months, or years, in a small space. Our living space is only 27', but it's way larger than a slide-in. As for picking recliners, I asked about that very thing a few years ago, when my wife was going to have to sleep in one for a couple months after shoulder surgery. We didn't want another one in the house, but it made sense to buy one that would work in the RV when she was able to sleep in bed. I allowed us to ditch the hide-a-bed couch.
  12. Yup, our rig and $535,000. Add in the smart and both motorcycles and your still well north of $500k. Hmmm. Put that $500k in a S&P index and let it grow and,,,,,,,,,,,,,die rich.😁
  13. We saw one on Moki Dugway in late September. Our rig and another half mill might get you a small one........
  14. Lawrence, you just ain't right. But you make us smile.....👍
  15. Read Scrap's post again......... How's that compressor driven?
  16. I remember the first time I saw someone using it. He was carefully coating every thread of each fastener, and I thought, "What a waste of time." Now I rarely assemble something without a dab. Might be the wrong color, but it's better than nutt'n. I found one product that's white and metal free. Ceramic dust perhaps?
  17. Now I'm really corn-fused. I googled "high temp anti-seize" and found both copper and nickle based by Permatex. I keep both on the bench.
  18. Sounds like TEC is trying to drum up business. I'd stay away. BTW, welcome back.
  19. We have a 2008 Newmar X-Aire toy hauler. We bought it in 2014 and are the second owners. We have had to fix a few things, floor in one slide, replaced all sky lights, minor caulking repairs, upgraded to 6 point BigFoot leveling system, converted the electric over hydraulic brakes to air over hydraulic, and replaced the tires and wheels with 17.5 set. I guess the last three, most expensive items were really upgrades rather than repairs. We looked for a long time before we bought this unit. My check list of desires couldn't be met by any of the standard builders, unless we went full custom. I'm "fiscally sensitive", aka "tight", so we found this unit with Mor-Ryde axles, Dexter brakes, and Newmar built their own frame. It also has paint, no vinyl to peel. We give up living space to have a garage, but we only use it 8-10 weeks a year. Hopefully that will increase since we've both retired.
  20. Mark, thanks for the info. A long time ago, I was told, by someone I trusted, that I shouldn't use nickel based when installing stainless fasteners into aluminum parts, because you want dissimilar metals. Apparently that was false, or was it because of the aluminum?
  21. Hmm. I always thought the copper based was generally for high heat. I also thought, you never use nickel based with stainless, and his fasteners may be stainless, or some nickel content. Where am I going wrong?
  22. Thank you Darryl. I learned about a/c many years ago.when I had a tractor with a cab and the a/c didn't work. Pressure differential, combined with orifice size to control the speed of escaping gas determines temperature drop. Go to your nearest ski area and watch them make snow for a dramatic demo of dropping compressed air to below ambient, without tanks in the system. Oh wait. You're in southern AZ aren't you?😜
  23. Whether it was out of context doesn't matter. It's still wrong. When the pressure drops, the temp also drops, possibly far below ambient. No matter whether there's a tank involved. There's no tank in your a/c or refrigerator. As to the part about an engine utilizing an aftercooler / intercooler/ heat exchanger, or charge air cooler, it's there because there is no pressure drop to cool the charge.
  24. Really? Then how does air conditioning, or a refrigerator work? You can't re-write the laws of physics, just because you don't understand them.
