Darryl&Rita
Between the array and controller? Blue Seas breaker. Two birds, one stone. GlennWest
Didn't find any Blue Seas with high voltage. Didn't know the others. Will check out. need two switches for 260v 50 amp dc. splitting panels in two sets all serial. My amperage is 42. Darryl&Rita
Forgot you were running high voltage array. You need to lok to the commercial/residential solar market, instead of mobile. Siemans, Square D, Eaton, among others make disconnect that fit your parameters. With the voltages you're looking to run, you definitely need one, it's the 12 or 24 volt systems that most mobile systems use that a disconnect is optional (but recommended). GlennWest
Yes my inverters have Mppt rated at 500 volts. All 10 of mine will be slightly over that. So splitting up to two sets and feed each unit. GlennWest
Guys I was thinking wrong about the amps I got coming in. They are all in series so only 10 ish amps. Bought a 63 amp breakers. 30 amp would have been plenty. Should I change it. Case20hp
If your wiring to and from the breaker are not good for that much amperage they would melt down before the breaker would trip. It would be like having a 20 amp breaker on 10 amp wiring in a house and plugging in a 15 amp device. The breaker would hold while the wire is getting damaged instead of actually protecting things. So I would get a breaker that is closer to the proper amperage.
GlennWest
Well your example can't happen. Not possible to plug anything into it. Basically all I have now is a disconnect switch. Randyretired
The NEC has requirements for the wire to the controller or inverter that I follow. Basically it says if the wire is designed to support 156% of the load then only a disconnect is required. For that disconnect I ofte use a large breaker because it it cheaper and easier. As long as it is bigger than than the load any breaker will work. Quote Randy 2001 Volvo VNL 42 Cummins ISX Autoshift

oldjohnt
Glenn you need to consider if you require a Disconnect orrrrrrrrrrr Overcurrent Protection orrrrrrrrrrrr both. A Circuit breaker provides Overcurrent Protection while a Disconnect provides just what it says. Also they do make Circuit breakers rated for switch duty. If you need to protect wires from the source (such as battery) to a load (say an inverter) that requires overcurrent protection such as a breaker or fuse. Often electrical appliances have their own internal overload protection for their output while obviously a battery does not so you would protect its output wires with a breaker or a fuse. I size the wires to have a minimum ampacity of 125% of the Maximum Continuous Current and then size the overcurrent protection device to protect the wire Hope this helps John T Live in the RV from Lakeway texas
justRich
Yes, this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001FQMZS8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I like it because I could wall mount it in a small space and not have a large wall projection of a switch. Mainly to cut power to the lithium batteries so that they're not being constantly charged while idle. Quote ~Rich

I used Blue Sea for my battery disconnect.
