Listening to music via wifi

One of the surgeons I work with brings a speaker into the OR and leaves it there as long as he is working in that room.  He plays music through his "Smart Phone" even when the phone isn't in the room. One of the younger Surgical Techs say's he is able to play through the Hospital Wifi. How is that possible?

He's streaming music, via his phone, then Bluetooth to the speaker. Hard to guess what he's using to stream, but most assuredly using Bluetooth.

Rereading the post, he may have a streaming speaker. Doesn't involve the phone.

At first  I thought it was simple blue tooth, but then he walked out of the area and to a different location  completely. Music still playing  and it's coming  from the  phone. Someone turned the speaker down while he was gone and when he came back in he thought the battery had gone  dead. Saw him open the app, but couldn't tell which one it was. Will ask someday.

No Air guitar or drums allowed while scrubbed in.

We have an Amazon Music subscription. We get access to a zillion songs and run it through my phone to Bluetooth speakers.  Because it is on the phone I can access it via WIFI or cell data. Outside we play it on a portable JBL speaker, inside on the Bose Soundbar, when traveling on the truck system (unless no cell coverage) and when walking or exercising on the headphones.

Amazon prime subscription also gives you access to lots of music, although not as much as their extra $ service.  I have this on my computers, tv through roku, and my phones.  If you download your playlists you don't need cell or wifi on your phone to play music.

Talked to youngest son, he thinks it's probably something like a Sonos speaker. They have versions with WiFi built in, an app to control it for your phone. The speaker will play whatever playlist it's tuned to, until the battery runs out or the WiFi signal drops, without using the phone app.

That is what's on top of the speaker, I looked at it more closely the other day. Will look it up in  a bit. Thanks.

I hate to say it but both Amazon Music and Amazon Prime are winners for me.  Lots and lots of free stuff for only 1.29 or 99 cents per song and only $100.00 per year for Prime movies.  Don't ask me why I hate Amazon but a good deal is a good deal and their Amazon lockers are also very convenient for me.  I wish they had more serious competition. Are you listening JB ???.  Happy Camper.

I have lots of company out there.

Youngest says the advantage of these types of devices, they don't have a microphone like Alexa or Google products. You still have the app on your phone, along with all that entails, but one less microphone in your life.

I think the scariest thing about the Amazon Music extra service is that it has an AI that designs playlists based on your listening.  I cobbles together stuff that you play with similar things.  The scary part is how often it is right.
