trimster
What's the general consensus on the location of the rv hitch on the volvo 780. 5th wheel is under 20k# and the tongue weight is just under 3k#. This is the truck were looking at. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/292943408527486/ 235" WB. GlennWest
Are you going to haul a car or just tow a camper? I tracks better on the very end also backs better. But I also find the shorter the better. DesertMiner
The pic show it as a model 670 with workstation.
geodog
Mount it as close to the panhard arms on the rear differential as possible. The hitch plate wuill be blow the top of the frame rauil and ahead of the rear frame plate. No need to move lights this way. ShortyO
trimster
Ahh, yes. It is a 670. Sorry. Typo. Glenn... we might put a trike on the back... so about the same width as a Smart Car. Just lighter weight. Geodog... I was thinking I might need to extend the frame a bit. If not, that saves $$$ and time. We head up from Salt Lake to put eyes on truck Friday. It's not everything we want but the price is in our range. It needs a fridge which is easy to adapt a dorm room type fridge. I have an inverter for the fridge and to-be-added microwave. We really want the workstation and 670's are hard to find with one. We'll run it dual axle for now and consider singling it out in the future. rickeieio
We left ours tandem for a variety of reasons, mostly because if it didn't work out, we could sell the truck back into commercial service. Now I'm glad we left it. Our hitch is as Geodog described. Just a couple pieces of angle iron (5"x 6"x 5/8") bolted inside the rails for the hitch to rest upon. No alterations to the frame other than trimming the sloped portion. GlennWest
Hauling the trike or a Smart will determine where the hitch goes. You have to have turning room. trimster
Excellent. Thanks. It's going to be a bit more involved to add a standard hitch receiver I think. GlennWest
Circle radius of camper is 51". I would allow around 60" because of up and down movement.
