CHIEFWAHO
During our side window install, (not thinking) we let the seat belts fully retract. Is there any way to get them to release ? Did a few google searches but nothing we found has been any help. Darryl&Rita
They're the regular retractor, locking activated by a pendulum. loosen the mounting bolt and slowly move it around, while trying to pull the belt out. Don't pull on the belt continuously, more of a "try-release, try-release". When the pendulum swings the right way, the release will ... release. I have been wrong before, I'll probably be wrong again. 2000 Kenworth T 2000 w/N-14 and 10 speed Gen1 Autoshift, deck built by Star Fabrication 2006 smart fourtwo cdi cabriolet 2007 32.5' Fleetwood QuantumPlease e-mail us here. Av8r3400
You may have to totally remove the recoil from its location to rotate it in different directions, then continue with Darryl&Rita's technique. I've had this happen to me before with different vehicles. beyerjf
As was mentioned, there is a pendulum mechanism with a little weight on it, the braking action causes it to swing everso slightly allowing the belt to move freely except under braking. In older vehicles, it isn't beyond the realm of possibility that some debris has gotten down in the mechanism and "gummed up the works" From a safety standpoint it would probably be wise to remove the assembly and inspect them. I am sure you will find the problem. I secured the lower portion of the seat belts to there original positions, gave them a good yank and they started working. Re-installed the top and am good to go! 1999 Volvo VNL610, Cummins M11 - 350/400 HP, 10 speed Rockwell - 'CHIEF' Custom flatbed with TrailerSaver air hitch. 3 cyl 8000 watt Kubota diesel generator.
