Iamhopeful
What chemical or product is needed to remove old seal adhesive?
Pat & Pete
The seals on our slides simply slip over a lip and are held in place via the seal grip channel . What RV do you have ? Goes around , comes around .
Iamhopeful
An Alfa. Backing of the seal is about 1" wide and sticks on the flat surface
hemsteadc
Mine just peeled right off leaving almost no residue. Maybe a teeny bit left on the coach. Of course I'm presuming you mean 'removal from the side of the coach', not from the seal itself.
Iamhopeful
Yes. Even tho I scrapped the old adhesive it still has gummy sticky residue on the coach.
hemsteadc
Ok, then I'd recommend rubbing alcohol, or Ronsonol lighter fluid. Resealing is not that easy. Don't know if you've done this before, but I 'went to school' on the first slide. I ended up with a seal that was too tight, then some rough edges after trimming. Works fine, just doesn't look that good in places.
KodiakJack
I removed many feet of seals last summer. Acetone worked the best for me to clean up after removal. MT_flyfisher
I used mineral spirits and lots and lots of elbow grease on mine.
budeneighe
No matter what one uses it is a good idea to use alcohol (70%+_isopropyl) to go over it all afterwards to be sure there is no residue from the solvent you used. That can cause adhesion problems to start occurring long after the seal is initially replaced. bobsallyh
lamhopeful, I replaced the seals on our Alfa three years ago. I used Goof-Off and a plastic putty knife. The longer it was on the easier it removed. The adhesive is 3-M Red. When replacing the seals if the new are also red adhesive there is little room for error when applying them to the side. Applying pressure and they are tight. Warm and hot temperatures really accelerate the adhesive.
