FL70 crew chief?

I had an '04 FL60 with a C6 Cat. Had same ratings as to what you're looking at, with air ride suspension, seats, and cab. I personally think you'll be happier with the bigger truck than the Chevy. Performance wise, I think the FL70 will have a slight edge,....but stopping and handling, it will be night and day. Through the mountains, you're gonna slow down some, depending on the grade. On the flats,...it should just hum along. If I wouldn't have never gotten sucked into upgrading to the M2,....I'd probably still have mine.

I had a volvo with a 13 speed and a fl50 with a six speed, both 200ish hp cat 3126 and let me tell you in the hills the 13 speed was far better than the 6 speed, there is just not enough gear split with the auto and most hills i would be at 35 mph bouncing between gears. But compared to a dually you will think it is awesome, at least i did! I guess as far as comfort it depends on some other options, air ride cab, air ride suspension etc. the fl70 can be everything from a limo to a work truck and everything in between so it really depends on how it was spec'd

The Crew Chief is quite comfortable and a pretty nice truck. Depending on how it was outfitted it is pretty heavy. You will find it slow on hills with an 18K trailer but it should pull the flats just fine. If you are not in a hurry it will get you up the hills, it will just take awhile and it may hunt gears, as stated above. Compared to a modern heavy-pickup like a Dodge 5500 it will not perform as well. But it will stop the 18K (probably) better. And it will cost FAR less....or at least it should.

We had a new 99 F350 Dully 7.3, Auto, 4:10 extended cab pulling a 18,000 GVW fiver. We upgraded to a 3126B 300HP 860lb torque FL50. Nice upgrade better ride, view and braking. The 3126B was a great engine. When we upgraded our 5ver to a 21,000 GVW the 3126B feel back to JV status. We upgraded to a 99 Volvo 770 with 10sp Auto shift and 525 HP. We were back on the A team. My recommendation is by all the truck you can afford the first time. Way cheaper.

I had that engine in a 33k pound Safari MH towing a 4K Jeep with the six speed Allison trans. ... Plenty of pull in the East, a little slow in big mountains out West. With 155k when I sold it she was still running strong, used no oil, got an honest 9 mpg. Required valve adjustment was the only maint cost other than oil/filter/belts/coolant changes. GOOD ENGINE...lots in Marine use that work harder than rv apps.

Where did these lines come from?? Arrrgh...been that kind of day.
