Mike and Linda
Has anyone driven the Highway 212 east to west in Yellowstone? Can we pull a 43 foot fifth wheel across that road? Looks impossible to me.
trailertraveler
US-212 inside the park from the Northeast entrance to Tower Junction is not much different than any other road in the Park. It runs through the Lamar Valley and is very scenic and a great wildlife viewing area. Outside the Park to the East is a different story. From Red Lodge to Cooke City, US-212 (known as the Beartooth Highway) goes over Beartooth Pass and has several sections of mountain driving with steep grades, switchbacks, narrow shoulders and steep dropoffs. Wrknrvr
With the weather in the area there may be snow in the area. Just a thought. Safe Travels, Vern
remoandiris
If you make that drive, please be courteous of those behind you. You will be going slow. Not everyone wants to do 30 mph (or less).
roberjw49
And there are signs on both ends of the "Beartoorth Scenic Highway" stating something to the effect that it is not recommended for RVs. horizon36
Don't drive the Beartooth with your RV. All the roads in the park are navigable by RV. The weather forecast shows snow/sleet for Thursday but I think all roads will remain open. We hope so as we are leaving Grant and heading to Cody tomorrow! Jimalberta
I haven't actually driven that road but from the stories I've heard about it I would only travel that road with my toad and never with my MH. <p>....JIM and LINDA......2001 American Eagle 40 '.towing a GMC Sierra 1500 4X4 with RZR in the rear. 1999 JEEP Cherokee that we tow as well. bobsallyh
As of this AM, Thursday Sept. 17, Beartooth is closed till at least noon do to blowing snow and the situation will be re-evaluated at lunch time. Having been across it numerous times, the last being in July, about the only RV I'd take across would be a class "B" with no toad.
Solo18
Loved that pass and road. Drove it twice in my 32' Class C in summer, and it was fine, although I would not recommend any of those roads near Yellowstone in winter.
trostberg
Beartooth and Dunraven open again. End of the job at Grant closing tomorrow along with Fishing Bridge. Madison and non reservation campgrounds still open.
champ_49
I would not do Beartooth with no 43' under no circumstances. Not saying it can't be done because it can, but I wouldn't see at as an enjoyable experience at all! Beautiful trip, but in order to see it you need to be able to travel at ease!
