  1. Take a look at "Travel Routers" on Amazon. I believe they will do what you want. https://smile.amazon.com/s?k=travel+router&crid=3NKE2559J4QNM&sprefix=Travel+Router%2Caps%2C259&ref=nb_sb_ss_ts-doa-p_1_13 I have used several from GL.iNet and have been quite satisfied (I am using one to make this post). Safe Travels.
  2. I am just starting "Trial by Fire" from P. T. Deutermann. It is the true story of an aircraft carrier in the closing days of WW II that is bombed by the Japanese causing a massive fire and the 3 day battle to save the ship. I have enjoyed the previous novels by Deutermann and expect this one will be a keeper also. Safe Travels...
  3. RV, I am not sure why you are being so argumentative. You act as if you have been insulted. Certainly nobody has attacked you. Just who has been rude and crude? I think that it is very gracious of you to give me enough time to answer Lynda's question, but I stand by my opinion that: A. 10S is a hobbled version of Windows that will disappoint users if they are not aware of the limitations. B. You can not load desktop applications in Windows 10S. I previously admitted that I was incorrect about Microsoft charging for upgrades. That is what I remembered and a quick Google search for "Cost to upgrade Windows 10S" led to the article I linked to. I apologize for failing to follow every link in your voluminous posts. In any event, I acknowledge your supreme knowledge of all topics and tip over my king.
  4. I guess Micro$haft changed their policy and I did not notice. The last I heard they were still charging for upgrades. Safe Travels...
  5. The free upgrade offer for Windows 10S expired on March 31, 2018: "After March 31, users will have to pay a $49 fee to upgrade from Windows 10 S to Windows 10 Pro." https://www.laptopmag.com/articles/windows-10-s-pro-upgrade-windows-march-2018 Safe Travels...
  6. Windows 10S is unable to install or run regular desktop applications such as Quicken, 3rd party anti-virus, backup, acrobat, Photoshop, etc. It can only run apps from the Microsoft store. Windows 10S restrictions prevent users from installing Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and other internet browsers unless the developers create versions for distribution through the Windows Store. Thus, Microsoft Edge is the only browser that can be used and Microsoft is also preventing users from changing the default search engine from Bing. In addition, you can only use hardware if it has a driver in the Microsoft app store. Many (most ??) printers, scanners, webcams will be affected. You can upgrade to a full version of Windows but it will cost $$$. Safe Travels...
  7. I suspect that anyone who buys a computer running Windows 10S without realizing the severe limitations of the operating systems will be very unsatisfied. Every time Microsoft releases a stripped down version of Windows, it fails miserably. I suspect that 10S will not survive long. Safe Travels...
  8. I don't think Edge is available for Linux. I do 95% of my computing and 100% of online activities using Linux. I just don't trust Microsoft anymore and am moving away from Google as well. Safe Travels...
  9. I also tried Brave some time back and found it not to my liking. I am trying it again and have found that it is much improved. I only have it on one machine at the moment. The rest still use Chrome or Firefox. Who knows, maybe I'll switch them over also. Safe Travels...
  10. We purchased a deeded lot in a co-op park back in 2013. We feel we made a wise choice. Right now there are very few lots available but I am sure more will become available in the future. https://www.avionpalms.org/ Safe Travels...
  11. Not any more. We spent 13 years on the road full time and now are seasonal travelers (or we were before Covid and hope to be again soon). While we were full time we had 2 desktops (actually one full size tower and one mini PC) along with 2 laptops. Now when we travel we take 3 laptops along. Safe Travels (or not)...
  12. I don't think that 9 computers in a household is common, but not rare either. I have 9 desktops, 3 laptops, and 3 Raspberry Pi computers. Toni has her own desktop and laptop. I actually have several others laying around that are not currently in use. Of course I am a computer geek that worked in the field for years before retiring. I now do computer support for residents of our RV park. I'll go into detail if you really wish to know what each is used for. πŸ˜ƒ Safe Travels (or not)...
  13. Yup, I do the coffee smell test every morning also. In addition, I disinfect with alcohol each evening. I prefer Bourbon or Tequila as the alcohol content in wine is too low to be effective πŸ˜€ Safe Travels (or not)...
  14. Some of us refuse to use Facebook. I am one of them. It seems to me that discussion of an RV network on an RV forum is a logical match. Now we are just waiting for the Covid-19 mess to abate so we can begin using our TT membership again. Safe Travels (or not)...

    Question

I agree with the comments above. Limiting yourself to just the 10 meter band, you will find very little activity. We are currently near the bottom of the solar cycle (but moving in the right direction) and conditions on 10 meters is generally poor. Once we near the top of the cycle in a few years, the 10 meter band will come alive with lots of activity. 73 es Safe Travels (or not)...
  16. I believe you will enjoy amateur radio. One of the nice things about the service is that it is so diverse. There is something for everyone and if you are not interested in one topic (DXing or contests for example), there are many others. As technology develops, new and exciting things appear. On the flip side, it is easy for a newcomer to become overwhelmed if they try to learn everything at once. You should be able to do most of the things you listed from an RV, but I think moon bounce may be a real challenge. Winlink is very useful when you are way off grid but does require a General Class or higher license for HF operations. There is some Winlink activity on VHF / UHF, but usually in more urban areas. 73 es Safe Travels (or not)...
  17. Just be aware that a small number of people are unaffected by chemical agents. Having spent a lifetime in law enforcement, I have been involved in literally hundreds of incidents where chemical agents were used and sometimes it is necessary to use other measures. Safe Travels (or not)...
  18. I recently ordered a package that was shipped from Indiana. UPS got it to Orlando, Florida (65 miles from me) in 3 days. UPS then handed the package off to the US Postal Service for final delivery. USPS immediately routed it to Jacksonville, FL (140 miles in the wrong direction) where it sat for 7 days. Once the package started moving again it hop scotched all over the state until it finally reached me several days later. Unfortunately this was not an isolated incident. Safe Travels (or not)...
  19. I would replace based on age, regardless of tire wear. I have experienced enough tire problems that I would prefer to err on the side of caution. Extra wear on the center of the tread can be an indication of improper inflation. Safe Travels (or not)...
  20. In all our years of traveling there was only one incident where a firearm was needed. It was a road rage incident on an interstate highway. An aggressive driver stopped in front of me and exited his vehicle with a tire iron. As he approached the front of my truck, I opened the door and told him to stop. He paused a few seconds then spit on my hood before returning to his vehicle. I am sure he never saw the .45 ACP I was holding behind the door but I am sure glad that I had it. If my pistol had been in the fifth wheel it would have been useless. Safe Travels (or not)...
  21. That is why Micro$oft changed the name format. Year and H1 (Spring) or H2 (Fall). I Believe MS does not care about Windows any longer. Their cash cow has moved to providing cloud services. I switched to Linux for about 95% of my usage several years ago. There is no way I would put up with the Windows mess these days. Safe Travels (or not)...
  22. And now 20H2 has been released to the public. Let the fun begin... πŸ˜ƒ Safe Travels (or not)...
  23. We have visited all of the lower 48 states, spending time in most of them. I believe that Delaware is the only state that we have not spent at least one night. In addition, we have visited most of the Canadian provinces and we spent an entire summer in Alaska. The year we wintered in south Texas, we took a bus tour through Mexico. We made one trip to the Bahamas and spent about a week in Freeport. We have not been to Hawaii because the bridge has not been completed. πŸ˜€ We have seen a lot but realize that we have just scratched the surface. There are so many places to go and things to see that nobody has enough time to see them all. Safe Travels (or not)...
  24. An often heard phrase is that you can never have too much truck. There is a great deal of truth to that, but there are other things to consider as well. Previously mentioned is that an HDT makes a poor daily driver. Another thing to consider is the licensing and insurance requirements. Our home state of Florida requires a commercial license and insurance for an HDT. Other states are easier for non-commercial use. Back when we were preparing to start our full time adventure, I did a lot or research on trucks. I spent lots of time going over the towing guides from all of the manufactures. I ended up purchasing an F-250 diesel because it had the highest tow rating available (14,000 pounds). Newer models have raised that considerably. We ended up with a 36 foot fifth wheel that weighed about 10,000 pounds empty and had a gross vehicle rating of 17,000 pounds. We weighed the loaded rig several times and were very careful not to exceed 14,000 pounds (the maximum rating of the truck). I would have loved to shave a couple thousand pounds off of that for a greater safety margin, but that just was not going to happen. To make a long story short, we pulled that rig through all lower 48 states, many Canadian provinces, and up to Alaska without issue. Keeping your speed down, using lower gears on down grades, and generally defensive driving really helps. Now that we have become long-timers, rather than full timers, we have downsized to a shorter, lighter rig but still have the same truck. Safe Travels (or not)...
  25. This is my guess. Cloudflare is a service that protects web sites. There may have been someone else at the park with an infected computer, so Cloudflare has blacklisted that IP address. Safe Travels (or not)...
