  1. Did you notice the difference between the two links you submitted?
  2. Most people think of desert in terms of cacti, etc. 5-7K feet and you are into scrub brush and pines in New Mexico, Arizona, Southern Colorado. Go to the Grand Canyon, both north and south rims. We really like the north rim.
  3. How about using a reliable, actual scientific report instead of a political publication when discussing science. Edison wanted DC, he got it wrong, but no one cares today. Two things we have learned this flu season, wearing masks, washing hands, and distancing, of children resulted in very low levels of flu throughout the country. With the flu, children are the most efficient vectors of transmission. Watch the rates of infection go up in Texas starting in about 2 weeks. It will not be pretty.
  4. Take pictures of your card so that you have it with you every where you go. You never know when you might need it. CDC Covid-19 Vaccination Card for those that want to see what it will look like.
  5. Not surprising, blood thinners and BP meds also reduce the incidence of severe symptoms , need for ventilators, etc. Anything that helps with the inflammatory response seems to reduce risks of severe complications.
  6. We know a lot of people that had pretty strong reactions to the Moderna vaccine. We had the Pfizer and the second shot was the sore arm, and some general muscle aches the next morning (Dave for a couple of days). Of course at our age, it is hard to know whether it is the arthritis or not. 😎
  7. It was 110 then middle of May in the desert last year. Didn't get under 100 until almost November. So you might want to rethink where you are going. Now higher altitude will be cooler. By June Santa Fe will be in the 90s. If you want to spend time in the desert you should be be on your way NOW. It will be ~82 today in the Phoenix area today and in the upper 80s tomorrow, then back into the 70s next week.
  8. Southwest is a huge, huge, huge area and first we all have to agree on what is included. A lot of people include Texas. Can we get a little more specific about where you want to go. BTW, the temperatures are about to start their climb, so hope you like hot weather.
  9. Yup, I want to see a REAL decrease in numbers testing positive. I don't think the positivity rate really matters that much now because unless someone has symptoms I don't think they are going for tests. But we are starting to have people come by for grilling since it is now warm and we have a large patio.
  10. How many particles does someone who is asymptomatic release when they are talking? How many will it take to infect you if neither of you are wearing a mask?
  11. I don't understand your question. You take whatever is offered where every you are when you qualify for the vaccine. You will not have a choice when you walk/drive into where ever the vaccinations are being given. And there are more possibilities on the horizon, so by next year, you might have a choice of what to take for the booster if they have added something to protect against a new variant. All will keep you from DYING, and whether or not you get sick depends upon so many variables it isn't worth trying to figure out. All will require boosters in the next year or so as we learn MORE about the virus and the various mutations. While I am sure everyone wants one vaccine and be are done, that was never going to happen. We will get boosters, as we do for so many vaccines because we have found out that very few vaccines are one and done. And who knows, it may end up being part of our yearly vaccine stop for 'current respiratory viruses' being transmitted around the world.
  12. I think the main thing to emphasize is that there are no out-of-pocket expenses for people to get vaccinated.
  13. 500,000 people have died. 500,000 people have died. The callousness of people is astounding. If there had been no mask requirements, no social distancing, no shutting down of bars, etc., the number would be into the MILLIONS - is that what people want? MORE to die. All from something that could have been minimized to begin with just a little bit of modification. ALL communicable disease pass by being transmitted from one person to another. There is no way to get COVID-19 except by being near someone who is exhaling particles, or coming into contact with a surface upon which their exhaled particles have landed while the RNA is still intact. If you interrupt that transmission by not being in close proximity to the infected individual or the individuals exhalations are absorbed into material and deflected towards the side and up ways from their face, they you do not get infected. How miserable a person's life must be to not care that others are dying, to be openly hostile to efforts to keep people from dying, and feel no remorse for actively working against keeping others safe.
  14. And your neighbors just magically got it from where? It is transmitted from person to person. When outdoors, it is diluted and you may not get any viral particles or may get a few, but not enough to overwhelm immune system and become ill. The more viral particles you have, the greater the chance of getting very, very ill. That's why so many medical personnel died at the beginning of the outbreak because we didn't understand about viral loads. So outside, air currents dilute any particles coming from them and depending upon where one is sitting, chance of getting sick go way down. Inside, sitting closer, poor ventilation with little dilution, chance of getting enough particles goes up. That's where masks come in. If you have the virus, your wearing a mask means 60-70% of all moisture laden particles are trapped inside the mask if cloth, and higher level trapped by N95 masks. If you do not have the virus, they 60-70% have been stopped from leaving the mask and the rest are projected upwards or towards the side. Thus other people will only receive 10-20% at most, then their masks will trap 60-70% of that 20%, so very small amount gets to you. Maintain a minimum 6' from others (9' is better), and most of the particles will hit the floor because they lose most of their forward projection coming through the mask. Any of the super spreader events is evidence of what happens when people are close together and not wearing masks. That anyone could view those as anything but transmission events is like believing that immaculate conceptions happen to everyone who suddenly realizes they are pregnant.
  15. I am protecting others and they are protecting me. Don't tell us after a year that simple fact hasn't been realized yet? Rather, you are being disengenous and everyone can see that.
  16. Wedding in Maine Washington State Wedding Sturgis Mount Vernon, WA Church Choir Practice Texas Funeral White House Rose Garden Super Spreader Event Just a very few super spreader events.
  17. Randy, I agree with your assessment. I see no need to NOT wear a mask while shopping because there really are only a minor number of us who have had both vaccines so far, but I also will be able to get together with people I know who are also wearing masks when out. And we will be able to get together with family when we go north for the summer. I'm going to Costo during the coming week for the first time in over a year! I have ordered from them for delivery, but going in person I have avoided, so gradually getting back into the routine of daily life again.
  18. Cause and effect is what happens at gathering where no one wears a mask and someone who is asymptomatic with the virus is shedding particles and 4-8 days later we see people who come down with the disease. Lots of super spreader events have been documented including weddings, funerals, etc.
  19. For some of the big facilities, the administration of shots will be handled by the federal government in some other way than the way individual pharmacies will bill for administration. Think about Medicare being SWAMPED trying to pay for each injection via individual claim requests. We were asked when we signed up for the original ones, if we had Medicare. I think for these (and I have no proof, but it makes sense) that the system running the big drive through injection sites will coordinate with the feds via some form to say we gave X number of shots to Medicare recipients and be compensated for it.
  20. Is the rig going to be titled in both of your names? Can you title/register it in just his name right now, then later, when you 'move' to Texas have the title/registration changed to reflect it as being a jointly owned/titled vehicle? Your husband goes ahead and 'moves' to Texas, easy to do if he goes to NC, completes purchase, stops in Livingston on his way through, gets his drivers license and registers/titles the truck while there. Then he visits Utah until he and your daughter will start their trip and you join later.
  21. There is nothing in what you posted from CDC that changes my mind. Also, we are going to see the numbers go up in about 2 weeks and Spring Training just started with a LOT of people pouring into the valley from all over the country. Why would anyone want to place themselves where it is possible they could catch the virus even if the results would be a lot less with the 2 doses of vaccine?
  22. I suspect it is "T**** derangement syndrome" that agesilaus was referring to in an attempt not to appear political. Arizona still requires, by county, masks in retail establishments, but you can take them off while eating indoors. Even though we have had our 2 doses, eating at a restaurant indoors is not something I would feel comfortable doing right now given the high positivity rate (though falling) in this state. Outdoor dining, that we might be able to handle. But there are a lot of people now coming and going in the Phoenix area because it is Spring Training season!
  23. It has been so routine now, that I often forget to take the mask off when I get in the car, especially if I had my hands full, put everything in, get in and use the hand sanitizer I keep in the car, turn it on, pull out and start down the road, sometimes I remember I have the mask on, other times, I'm in the driveway before it dawns on me to take off the mask. Just finished the last of the masks for my daughter who is a special ed teacher and her aide (plus some extras for other teachers at her school). She now has a all of the seasons of the school year plus a couple of masks with eagles in flight on them - eagles are the school mascot. Plan to take all of the spring, summer and fall mask with us as we head out for the summer in the motorhome - just in case. I expect that I will be wearing them even though we now both have had a second shots, for anything inside - so many variants around that I want to be a s safe as possible. I fully expect that next winter we will all be told that we need boosters to cover the new variants. It will take some time before it all gets sorted out. I also plan to use masks next fall for things like grocery shopping when flu season starts again.
  24. I just figured out that using the mobile.hotspot website that I can see some text messages that have been sent by T-Mobile (welcome, etc.) to my hotspot, so tomorrow I'll try again with T-mobile to see if I can set it up the website login. Can't read messages on my device, but maybe since I have gotten some information from them on it they can help me set it up.
