  1. It's a 2021 Peterbilt 567. 500 Cummins efficiency. 18 spd manual. 3:25 rears. Low air leaf rear, optional air ride front. I think it's a 280" wb. 239,000 miles. It has the Paccar installed "smart air" battery powered apu with I think it is a 2500 watt inverter, and an Espar diesel heater. All installed at the factory. Prior owner installed the painted to match drop visor and ordered the extra cab lights. Sleeper was ordered without fairings. Which made it especially interesting to me as I would have had to remove the fairings, which is a crappy thing to do. It was ordered with the collision avoidance system and adaptive cruise. Has factory navigation and several other interior options and upgrades. Single bunk. Cant wait to get the box and have it painted to match. Then,....hit the road.
  2. Filled it with diesel. Tomorrow I'll fill it with DEF.
  3. When my life partner and I were told she was terminal, psychologically there was no way I would ever be able to drive my 379X again without Cari in the seat to me. So with her permission I sold it. It is at a good home and will likely travel similar paths in the future. Friday I rented a car one way to Boise Idaho from my home town Hillsboro Oregon, and bought this 2021 567. My BIL had never ridden in one and after Cari had been telling he and my sister about travel by truck, he really wanted to ride along to see what even a short interstate trip might be like. I think he is hooked and my be a future HDT owner. Fingers crossed anyway. I have a insulated Summit box ordered and hope to take delivery February sometime.
  4. So true. So very true. On an individual level, each has to make their own decisions. On a group or gathering level, such as any rally etc. however, a different set of rules apply. I can see and respect the reluctance to organize and take on the responsibility of a rally when things are so politically charged. But there is nothing wrong with people participating in the topic of who's on the road and where, and getting together if they so desire. I sincerely hope that the Escapees do not fall for the vaccinated vs. un-vaccinated segregation agenda.
  5. Thank you Kirk. I had no idea that Escapees had such an affiliate. I am checking their site now.
  6. Awesome. Thank you very much for those links. I have bookmarked them both and will check out what they offer.
  7. As time rolls on, many lose their spouse, life partner, significant other etc. For those that travel, be it rv, car, train, plane or other, it can be a real life changer. I recall a few years back, watching a youtube video of two couples that had lost their spouses and while attempting to do some travel on their own, had met at an rv park, and started up conversation. After some time had passed, travelling separate, but to agreed upon destinations, they tried travelling together,.......and now they are full timers having the time of their lives. So with that, can anyone share whether this is somewhat common, or rare? Would you share any thoughts on such situations etc.? I really do not know what your reactions might be. But I am curious as this is a forum board with the commonality of rv travel, what your thoughts are? Have you lost your spouse/travel partner? What have you done to get back on the road? To the admins or moderators, please forgive me if this is not a topic for this board. I understand if you remove it. Thanks for any input.
  8. Most states that have those "weigh in motion" speed bumps and pre height checks a couple miles before the station, will have state of the art cameras connected to massive data bases that will know what you had for breakfast before you order it. I called Oregon motor carrier division and asked. They said please do not clog our scale lines. We will know everything there is to know about you and your rig long before you pass the station. I called Washington state and had to go to the state highway patrol to ask that same question. They too replied same as Oregon. We know what and who you are long before you get to the station. Just keep driving please. Local Oregon scale signs still say trucks. Washington say vehicles. Oregon says 20,000lbs. Washington says 16,000lbs. In washington that includes T plated pickups pulling HT trailers and most box vans even those not requiring a cdl.
  9. These are where I would start. I had a beautiful Freightliner fld120 that when I bought it, had a shake that started about 50 mph. The prior owners put all new virgin tires on it to try to stop it. No luck. They put all new brake shoes and drums on, no luck. They rotated the front tires on the wheels 180, no luck. New shocks etc., etc., etc. No luck. So they gave up and sold the truck to me. I bought a pair of those bead balancer tubes that go between the wheel and brake drum. No luck. I put a gopro on the frame up front and went for a drive. No shaking from the front axle. Put it on the rear frame, no shaking. Prior owners had the local drive line shop check the u-joints and drive line trans to axle, and interaxle etc. By pure luck I happened to catch up with crusty old log truck mechanic and told him what was going on and what was done to solve it. He shook is head and said drive shaft slip yoke. I told him the truck was at a drive line service shop and they said nothing was wrong with the drivelines. Did'nt care. Said slip yoke period. Go talk to Ken at 6 states in Portland he said. Ok. So I called Ken and he agreed. Said just bring the whole drive line in and he will show me why. I did, he did. New slip yokes and splines for the main and interaxle, a couple hunnerd bucks, problem solved. My truck had a manual 10 speed so I could also "feel" the shake in my hand when at speed. Once I got the slip joints replaced, smooth as glass as they say.
  10. I'm an hour north of you. It hit 108 in North Plains. (US26 at exit 57)
  11. Math and physics. One steering axle. Pushing or pulling. Since you can not slide the trailer axles, and the king pin is fixed position in relation to the drive axle, it's all about the direction of travel. Forward, or steering out front, you can go from a narrow passage to a wide passage, but not opposite. Backing, or steering at the rear, you can go from wide to narrow, and/or, depending upon how narrow, from narrow to wide. Or...........fold your mirrors in, and go full squirt.
  12. Normally I would say "those sure were the days...." (hinting of how great they were). Glad those days are gone. Experienced them, but glad they are gone and behind us.
  13. Yep. The longer the spread, the better the ride. Have you looked much at the M9xx series military 6x6 rear suspension systems? I'd be curious what your thoughts are. It's not a physical walking beam, but the characteristics are similar.
  14. People..............if only you knew the shenanigans the governor of this once great state pulls on the once great people of this once great state.🤬
  15. Yep. That option sounds best for your situation IMO.
  16. Ok, so with this thread question fresh in mind, I had to get some diesel this morning. Today, april 24 2021, at Cornelius Oregon, Fred Meyer fuel station, (Fred Meyer is a division of Kroger) I asked about pumping my own fuel. I was told I can pump my own diesel, but not my own gasoline. Cornelius is west of Portland a short distance, so north western Oregon.
  17. Just watched this youtube video on what may be the best ever mouse trap. Your choice whether to terminate the mice or........
  18. Unfortunately,....or fortunately, depending upon how you view this.🎸 I can't really ad anything useful, but I do want to follow this thread to learn as I can. I wish all the best for your recovery. I guess one thing I do know, is since you are going under the knife as they say, make certain to heed the written directions for body cleansing prior to going in. I do know it is very important for infection fighting to make certain you do everything you can to be as clean as possible going in. My gf will be going in for cancer surgery on the 20th. I plan to make certain that I to am as clean as possible with freshly laundered clothing and I plan to even wipe down the car handles etc. Infection, especially in your case where your surgery will be at your neck, is to be avoided at all cost. Again, I do not know what to do regarding your rv, but make certain you have some good shoes to wear to avoid any slipping or rolling of the ankle etc. while you recover.
  19. The "best" suspension design for mobility off highway is the walking beam design. Single spring per side, whether it be leaf, elastomer or air, and both axles tied together via beam on a single pivot, is not only superior off road, but also uneven terrain in a delivery lot or paved camp ground with dips and bumps. Does'nt ride very well, but will get one further into trouble.
  20. It does. However, the anti-lock "computer" has to know that the park brake is released, so there is a connection there of some type. Upon re-start, should the ecm or separate anti-lock device need to run some sort of self-diagnostic, I can't help but wonder if said device would momentarily glitch and begin release thinking that the wheel sensors are showing movement of some kind? Since this only seems to happen upon warm re-start, perhaps some component is holding a charge or some sensor is faulty and sending a false reading. The ecm knows the engine temp at all times. I dont know. I'm just grasping at straws wondering why this happens upon a warm restart and so far anyway, not on cold startup. I know recalls happen on most all new vehicles now days. Perhaps a recall history would also be in order?
  21. This truck will have anti-lock brakes.? So there will be an electric connection between the brakes and likely the ecm, or an electrically charged anti-lock system. If it were my truck, I would attempt to locate the anti-lock system and inspect all wire connection and routings. I am not a truck mechanic, but I have to wonder since this appears to only do this upon a re-start, perhaps some sort of anti-lock feedback or wiring component holding a bit of electric charge might be the culprit.?
