  1. a) If a gas Class C and gas Class A in a small size that you're looking at.... very little difference. Both can be serviced by the same type of mechanic or facility. b) We drove our 40' Class A down good gravel roads for up to 20 miles or so or until we found a nice place to boondock on public lands. You will not do boulder hopping with either a C or A. We boondocked 90% of our 16 years of full-timing in all the midwest and western states and Alaska. We also used national parks, state parks, national forest campgrounds, county and city parks. We used Corp of Engineer or state parks in the east.
  2. Yes there are murders everywhere, unfortunately even in the smallest towns and also in our crowded national parks with law enforcement rangers patrolling. We volunteered in Rocky Mtn. Nat'l Park and you wouldn't believe what happens there. There were constant BOLOs transmitted on the radios. https://www.aetv.com/real-crime/cold-case-murders-in-national-parks
  3. Enjoy your new digs. Good reasons to move. It sounds ideal!
  4. Even if you only have one knee done but are living alone; Medicare will pay for inhouse PT if doctor recommends it.
  5. Why did you move, Kirk? The previous seemed like a nice community for you.
  6. What I've read is that they were at Padre Balli Park (which has a designated camping area). It is near a waterpark, Mustang Island State Park and at the Causeway Hwy at Corpus Christi. To me, that's not isolated. It's certainly terrible but I wouldn't definitely say it happened because of where they were staying. Murders happen everywhere - in the smallest towns and the biggest cities.
  7. We love our supplement. Never have to pay anything and no co-pays. Have had major surgeries and all is covered without question.
  8. Ahhh..... explains why we're receiving so many offers to join. Thanks.
  9. We've always had Medicare supplement; not an Advantage plan. However, perhaps someone can answer how the Advantage insurance companies get their money if they advertise no premium, free dental, prescriptions, etc?
  10. Don't spend money on a stand-alone generator. The onboard one is so easy to use..... and yes, you WILL use it! Many wonderful campgrounds - national parks, national forests, etc. - don't have electric and you'll be using that generator a lot. Solar is great and we had the panels but don't get into that until you try getting by with the onboard generator. You can always add solar if you plan to do a lot of dry camping. I agree with getting a convection/microwave. It can bake breads, cookies, roasts, etc. We loved it.
  11. Excellent suggestion for the tool box! All we ever needed was a small canvas tool bag and the drill. Here are some good lists. Of course, you don't need everything on them but it will give you a start..... https://www.campanda.com/magazine/rv-checklists-printable/
  12. Wow! Your kids send YOU money? That's a switch!! 🤑
  13. Wow! You found a good park for you and so close to work. I just Googled it and it states a site with a cover is $550/m. What a deal!! Hope you solve the issue. I think a dehumidifier will help along w/vent openings.
  14. Correcting spelling on these forums is unnecessary. We see auto-correct errors all the time that slip by.
  15. It's a very easy drive from Houston. Take I-10 and get off in Fort Stockton Hwy 395 and it will take you directly to the Visitor Center.
  16. We've been up there, also. I don't recall any difficulty.😊
  17. We boondocked a lot in national forests and BLM and saw a both Class As and Cs. You can safely do it in both IF you don't plan to boulder hop. We found national forest lands to have good roads - never an issue with our 40' MH. I would look for one without a long overhang. They ride a lot better and if you have to go down a slope or through a wash the tail won't get hung up. The Class A would ride higher which would be a benefit. They also have more storage space in the basement. Good luck in your search!
  18. The Boomer 'Birds of a Feather' group of Escapees also does the Balloon Fiesta. We've gone with them.... a fun time. We also crewed with a balloon - great experience. Theirs is cheaper as meals are not included but they have potlucks. However, right now they are looking for someone to take over this project this year. I'm sure they'll get someone. Contact the Editor of their newsletter for up-to-date information. Note at the end of the newsletter the many other gatherings they will have. It's a fun group and very welcoming to newbies!! http://link.rm0004.net/client_files/Boomersbof/10_Oct_2019_Boomer_News.pdf I believe the Escapees 'Xcapers group' also goes.
  19. When we volunteered in a national park you could have them replaced (if damaged) by going into the Visitor Center. No charge at that time. Things may have changed. However, if you lost it then you'd have to buy a new one.
  20. It's a beautiful place in November when the cottonwoods are in brilliant yellow colors. It's a popular time to be there.
  21. I would think the dehumidifier, itself, would freeze. Are you leaving heat on in the RV?
  22. We had a 30A and 50A for 16 years of full-timing. We enjoy public parks and they will often have 30A rather than 50A. We had absolutely no issues You'll soon learn what you can and can't use at the same time. It also depends on the temps you stay. If only being able to use one AC then close off the bedroom where you won't be during the day and just cool the living area. Around 7pm turn off the liv. area and cool the bedroom. You'll be surprised how both can be cooled in the evening with only one AC running. Use the bedr. one all night but the living area will still cool down. Also, a Fantastic fan on all night with one or two windows cracked a bit really helps at night. Get the RV you'd be happy with and things will work out for the small times of inconvenience.
  23. Perhaps you need to give the Mail Service a call to clarify things with them and ask how they want you to give directions. Are their new people? We didn't have problems but we always gave specific dates rather than "continue every other week".
