zma
Can I store and use my ecoflow smart generator in the skirted area of my 5th hitch? I dont have permanent electrical hookups and I thought about using my new generator with a 100lb propane tank. I want to put them both in/underneath the skirting of the 5th wheel hitch area. So I can hide them both and access them both if need be.
Kirk W
That would be a very dangerous thing to do. The generator exhaust could enter the RV and a propane leak could cause a fire. In addition, there are regulations about the placement of propane tanks and no propane service will fill a tank that is not placed according to those rules. Jaydrvr
The newer generators have CO sensors that will shut the unit down. In an enclosed area, the sensor will do what it was designed to do and shut the generator down. CO is heavier than air, but underneath your living space is a dangerous and potentially deadly setup. Something else to consider. Jay
TXiceman
No way would I even consider what you are planning to do. That is now an enclosed area which is a no-no for any CO emitting device. Find a way to get the generator away from the RV and maybe an encloser that can be secured. It seems that every year at the Houston Rodeo there is at least one CO related death due to a generator being used in an RV. DJohns
100 lb propane tank can not be laid on it side. What ever you do run it by your propane supplier for safety requirements. Ray,IN
This will give you an over-view of LP tank placement for permanent structures. If your RV is supported by concrete blocks, it can be considered a permanent structure. https://www.squibbtaylor.com/uploaded/lp10servicemaninst.pdf Page 11 shows the tank must be 10' from the structure; local laws/ordinances may preempt that rule. Even if what you propose is legal, would your genset get the minimum of 23.8 cubit meters of air per cubic foot of LP vapor? I also agree with all previous replies.
