bigredhdt
Anyone change a d12d water pump? Got a leak on the flange of the pipe that goes from top of the engine to the water pump housing. Cleaned both surfaces very well and used a new metal gasket that came with the pump kit. Wondering if I should have used some water pump housing silicone on the metal gasket?
bigredhdt
Took it to a shop and they told me silicon is needed. Let them do the work and no more leaks.
rickeieio
Success!! Generally, I use a very thin film of sealant on most types gaskets. Type of sealant depends on gasket material and application. I rarely use silicone. Rule of thumb, if sealant squeezes out, you used too much. Imagine how much also squeezed "in". Parrformance
I have had an engine run cold, never warm up, because I had a Shop do the pump. When I pulled the thermostat out there was a glob of silicone caught in the thermostat keeping it open.
