  1. Sensor goes in the bottom of the pan.
  2. https://www.raneystruckparts.com/volvo-vn-vnl-vt-engine-oil-level-sensor-21042447-21521353-22022794/?gclid=CjwKCAjw29ymBhAKEiwAHJbJ8sslcoDCiiknp1ynQnbaWhG1V9QAT2-iHGudvUqr78vX7KgOuzMvVBoCR_YQAvD_BwE That doesn't look like it just just screws in. What am I missing?
  3. Anybody drop their oil pan on a d12d? I need to change the oil sensor. Is there anything other than loosening the bolts? Do you need a new gasket?
  4. What about fsb-047-284? I really don't have a way to determine if oil has wicked into the harness. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2013/SB-10083830-6903.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwiA7tTmlseAAxUNjYkEHTJ6CxsQFnoECBQQAQ&usg=AOvVaw252M5ZZnTsWT5fEG1T6mmD
  5. I have heard others with the oil wicking issue, so I wanted to ask this question. I opened up the oil level sensor and there is oil in the connector. Do I need to change the sensor or just get the anti wicking jumper or both?
  6. Dealer traced back to the ecm, despite them telling me these were on a long backorder wait list, it arrived the day after approving the quote. The service advisor told me that the truck was in 95% power reduction limp mode. Which equated to ver rough, low rpm idle. It would move at about 1mph which was great because it needed to move to get it in a place for the tow truck. Thinking back maybe I had some telltale signs. Intermittent tcm j1939 communication errors, intermittent low oil alarms and intermittent outside air temp readings. Based on the drive home, the downshifts seem crisper. Idle seems better and throttle response seems better than before it went into limp mode.
  7. What were the terms when you bought the ecm? Did they let you hook up and make sure it was actually a good ecm? Dealer is open to a used on since they can't source a new one. They gave me the part number so they just need to load the correct parameters for the truck.

    Volvo Engine ecm

The dealer says that I need a new ecm for my ved12, but they are backorder, and have been on backorder for a while. I guess I have 3 options: Used Send in for repair Order one overseas. Thoughts?
  9. Where did you find another ecm?

    Volvo Limp Mode

I read in the volvo docs that the ecu will put the truck in limp mode when the j1939 cannot communicate. Anyone know the characteristics of the ved12 limp mode?
  11. Rick, you know of any good mobile truck repair services in our area? I'm in Okeana, OH, not too far from Harrison, oh.
  12. Where do I measure the voltage at the ecm?
  13. I've pulled the connections and looked/cleaned them with no change. Would you recommend I cut off the existing ring terminal and put on a new one? Replace the fuse holder on the engine ecm feed?
  14. Power to the truck was disconnected for some time for service work. After reconnecting, truck has rough idle, will not engage throttle. I do a diagnostic on the engine ecm and it fails to communicate. Any idea of what to try?

    D12 Water Pump

Took it to a shop and they told me silicon is needed. Let them do the work and no more leaks.

    D12 Water Pump

Anyone change a d12d water pump? Got a leak on the flange of the pipe that goes from top of the engine to the water pump housing. Cleaned both surfaces very well and used a new metal gasket that came with the pump kit. Wondering if I should have used some water pump housing silicone on the metal gasket?

    D12d water pump.

The bottom bolt of my water pump is very slowly leaking. Now that I am done traveling for the year, I'm going to fix it. Should I just change the seal or change out the whole water pump? If I change it should I go with a volvo part or aftermarket?
  18. I ended up cutting holes in the floor of the cab to get the cab air bags deinstalled and then new ones installed. Much easier than trying to weld new bolts in. I posted pics to the forum.

    HHRG not working

Anyone else having problems with the menus on the heavy haulers resource guide? They don't go to links and don't close when the go to the link.
  20. I did that, but good idea to add to the list. What about the thermostats and water pump?

    Hub Oil Change

The manual says there is no set interval for changing hub oil.
  22. We do put low miles on them, but I don't know when things were changed before I bought them truck. I changed the belts about 2 years ago and didn't detect a problem with the tensioner pulley, but this weekend the tensioner decided to self destruct. We use our HDT to tow our horses in a living quarters horse trailer to events. Luckily, it died at the arena rather than on the highway. 3 days to get the part locally, but they had it 1.5 hrs away. Bought both tensioners and idler pulley. The existing idler pulley seems good on the truck, but if you spin it on you finger you can barely feel a catch when it slows down. I carry us rider and they would have paid for a tow or mobile repair, but being stranded for something as easy to change as this is worth it to me to proactively replace them.
  23. What things would you recommend to be replaced proactively? Here's my starting list. Please comment and add to the list. Belts Tensioner Idler pulley Starter relay
