Tilting panels came about as a result of $2+ per watt panels. With prices where they are, tilting should only be considered by the young.

Or those with a limited amount of rooftop.

Why for the young if it remotely operated?

Mostly, those with smaller roofs must be better at conservation.

Compare the number of remote actuated systems to the number of manually operated and over-paneled systems. Be honest.

I have been wrong before, I'll probably be wrong again.

I have stated many times I will never go on roof to tilt one. Just as soon as I did a storm would come up.

I'm still climbing a ladder to tilt mine at 77, and have no interest in being conservative.  I like my microwave, toaster & coffee pot.😀

but what do you do when high winds come

Well, I don't climb up on a ladder when the wind is blowing!

As to the panels in the wind, they are tilted on the short sides, and have done fine in 40 MPH winds - check the photo on this page of my journal.  I'd post the photo here, but it appears I have reached my limit of images here at rvnetwork.com, and while I have asked how to get rid of the old images, the site administrators have not replied.

First, you never go on the roof during wind, and second, I leave them up.  Those mounts are strong, the panels aren't going anywhere.  What's kind of annoying is if the wind is blowing directly at their backs, they're like sails and make the RV rock more.

Me too!  I want to live like at home and not have to run a generator. I have figured out how to put multiple quotes in one post on the other board, but not here.

I just deleted a couple of photos from an old post from when I was trying to sell my truck.

* Go to your screen name in the upper right corner
* select "My attachements"
* click on the link on the right side of the page next to the image that you'd like to delete and it will take you to the location in the forum that the picture is on.  It may open another browser window.
* Once on the forum page, Select "Edit" for your entry.
* From there, I was able to delete my images
* the click on the "Edit" blue button at the bottom of the page and that should update the post.
* to verify, go back to the "My Attachements" section and see if the image(s) is (are) gone. Hit the Refresh button for your browser if the image still appears. It should be gone after the refresh.

Well, lets say, that it worked for me. I hope I got the steps down right...
Cheers

Here's my solution for tilting and portable:

HAaAdWF.jpg?2

If the panels are facing the sun I can leave them attached and tilt them up. Otherwise I can remove them and set them in the sun using extension cables.

Great work Tom!
I like the idea of not having to get on the roof to add to my Solar panel coverage.I have just the spot on the back of the trailer....
Now to find a solid spot to hinge from!

How are you holding them in the down position when traveling??
