GlennWest
Decided to start new topic. Motor not bad. Oil leak. Filter was wet dried and ran engine. Leaking above filter. There is a line there. Hard too tell where coming from. Is that an oil line on a Detroit? There is a device there that has a rubber hose and clamp. It wet to but most everything is there. Darryl&Rita
Take the suspicious filter off, check for rubber o-rings. You should only see one. Make sure to check the filter stem for a hidden o-ring. If you find two, then you've found the problem. If the filter was loose, you've already found the problem. GlennWest
Leaking above filter. Running down the filter. It is the oil line. It ties into filter base. It dry up till the filter and wet above filter. Problem is where it ties in to motor behind the turbo. Just about impossible to get at with turbo there. Shop here can make hose. I just got to get it off. GlennWest
It looks like tire and wheel well removal will allow access to it. Not doable in RV park. Shop here will do it but 2 week wait. Going to see if he will replace my freon lines while doing this. Be nice to have ac again. I put a new compressor and dryer on but would not take freon. Line collapsed. GlennWest
I think this is the turbo oil line. comes from the oil filter housing to behind turbo. rickeieio
Given the issues you've experienced, it might be wise to let the shop go over the truck and see what else is ready to become a problem. Star Dreamer
We had a line replaced in that area on our Detroit 14L when we had it inspected when we were buying it. I don't recall what t it was called. I thought it had something to do with the EGR valve. Not sure if I have a picture of it or not. Check out this link for some pictures and item descriptions. The line we had replaced was one of the braided lines. http://www.detroitmanuals.info/series-60-egr/790901.html Quote 2005 Freightliner Century S/T, Singled, Air ride ET Jr. hitch 2019 46'+ Dune Sport Man Cave custom 5th wheel toy hauler Owner of the 1978 Custom Van "Star Dreamer" which might be seen at a local car show near you! GlennWest
By your diagram it is the turbo oil feed line. It seems to be a failure point. I goggled it and found hundreds of lines. Star Dreamer
This is the part they replaced, may be hard to see since it is loading sideways. The picture is clearer in my files but not uploading very clear here. GlennWest
Picked up my truck today. Had ac system fixed also. New condenser due to lines seized in them. Wrung off. New cabin filter. Didn't realize it had one. Totally clogged. Bolts came out of egr cooler so that a plus. Total bill was $1665.36. Parts were 542.26. Nice to have ac. Darryl&Rita
That's not even a bad bill, considering the work involved.
