Parrformance
Well here goes, the park brake on the drivers side front tandem is hanging up. I need to cycle the park brake off and on to get the pads to release from the drum. Drives fine once they release. May I ask what I should check first? Hewhoknowslittle
First I would block wheels, have air tanks full. Then release parking brake, crawl under truck and see if slack adjuster is in full retract position, you can check other slacks to compare travel, if not retracted, see if s-cam is holding it from moving. Just a start of things to check but do this first. Roger
Parrformance
10-4, I will start there. The previous owner added this front drive axle to the truck, it was used, may need to be looked over a little.
Hewhoknowslittle
If you find any worn parts are broken return springs on the shoes it would be time to do a complete brake job on that front axle just as preventative maintenance. Most people overlook the slack adjusters and the S cams but they play a vital part in stopping the truck.
Parrformance
Watching a video on push-rod travel, slack adjustment now. May need to do a six pack adjustment, will likely need to grease the slack adjusters as well. been about a year since I greased them last. noteven
Make sure pliable grease is present in the S cam shaft assy as well. Not the old dirty chocolate cake icing variety grease 😀
Parrformance
Will do.
MsChrissi
Before we put the fenders and body on the back, at least one wheel would lock up and be difficult to break loose. Since we put the fenders and body on the back plus a piece of 4x8 plywood covering the wheels (radiused to fit under fender lip) and keeping rain and moisture out of the wheels and brakes, we do not have lockups an more. Parrformance
Perhaps I caused the condition while pressure washing. I have a deck over the wheels, but not a water tight deck.
MsChrissi
So far all we know is they do not like to sit wet. It would hang up every time before we closed things up
beemergary
Lots of good info. I had mud dobbers plug exhaust port of relay valve before and made for slow release.
